I get the concern where having FCs as playable characters goes. I've been on games where that was most definitely a problem and it does suck when your character is forced to be in the background while the FCs are given the spotlight. But I do think that the staff is trying to not let them be like that. Case in point, they let me app a character who is a high ranking Imperial officer, a role that is going to require her to be out there and kind of in a spotlight of her own. I really don't think that they would have allowed me to do that if they were wanting all the attention for their own (not said to brag, I'm only bringing up my character to hopefully try an alleviate some of the concern people have).

Now, that said, I do hope staff will be willing to shut down any attention/RP/scene hogging people playing FCs might attempt, regardless of if they're played by staff or not.

@Arkandel I'm ashamed of you. You haven't read the Expanded Universe material then. The one when Luke Skywalker got blitzed in the Starburst Cantina, met a young Twi'lek dude, then both went back to Luke's apartment and hosted a bukkake party with a few pals and a nice Rodian girl named Skeeton.

That's my eye-twitching with FCs in games. They inevitably end up being used by whomever, staff or player, to lay pipe. Use the Force. Assemble their lightsaber. Lock their s-foils in attack position. Impact on the surface. Let someone ride their taun-taun. Have their Imperial troops enter someone's base. Blast points that are too accurate for sand people. Okay, I'm done...probably.

You're saying you have a bad feeling about this?

On the contrary, I thought he was getting pretty excited there for a moment.

I am tentatively considering my character previously having some tangential association with a Rogue One feature. Who is dead anyway, but I'm torn between "hey that would be a neat little hook" and "ugh, stop trying to be a snowflake, Cupcake".

Look, the truth is, Diego Luna probably fucked a whole lot of bitches on his excursions for the Rebellion.

HA! Well, I am making an Alliance Intelligence operative. Not particularly looking to have been in his pants, tho.

Really? What, are you blind, woman? I'd let that boy put whatever he wanted wherever.

I'm not blind, but I am conscious of the idea that some people may like to jump to the conclusion that I might be doing this just so I can get my rocks off at the idea of having gotten into Andor's pants. I hate the whole shaming bullshit that comes with that attitude.

I can whole-heartedly assure you that you need not worry that my gentle-hearted ribbing is some back-handed comment about getting rocks off.

Mostly because I like rocks. And getting off. I'm hardly one to judge.

I'll definitely judge her for it. Just remember: judgements can be in someone's favor as well.

I just figured, hey, I've got an intelligence officer, it would make sense for her to know him!

...and yes, he is dead sexy.

@Apu I'm sure that nearly all staff everywhere come in with, at the very least, some mild self-delusion that they're going to be fair, with the goal of 'not being like that'; it's fairly rare for staffers to be actual, intentional, self-aware tyrants. It's generally the case that they think FCs will enliven the game, not shut out 90% of the playerbase. No one goes in with the aim of 'this will really make my game suck, yeah!'

At the same time, I restate my observation that the rate at which they succeed in these aspirations is 0%. Outside of all/mostly-FC games like comicverse kind of stuff, FCs basically always end up being a net negative. That doesn't invalidate the one time someone knew someone who played a really hot er I mean well-characterized Princess Leia, but generally I find these games worse off for the attempts.

If we replace 'FC' with the also-accurate 'massively skilled and/or overpowered character with nigh-unto limitless resources compared to everyone else on the game', it's suddenly less of a mystery why FCs never, and will never, work.

I suppose staff feel less like they're rewarding themselves or the chosen few by not calling them that, though.

I'll point out that our FC's do not get any special privileges. If they want to be a leader in the rebellion (like, Leia), she pays for it. If an OC wants to be a leader in the Rebellion too, they pay for it. Our OC's are exactly in line with the FC's, power wise. If someone apps a Tier 1 Vader, he will have the exact same amount of points, powers and privileges as someone else apping a random Tier 1 Sith.

And we're an open sheet game: everyone can see everyone's stats.

Wow. That would make for a really underpopulated universe.

I mean what, if this game is WILDLY (implausibly) successful there may be, say, 500 players? 500 people divided by a whole galaxy…
