@surreality I think I was your only RP partner there, then. And that scene was the closest I got to anything supernatural/spooky/etc.
-
@fatefan We tried! It was a valiant effort.

I have gotten report of a supposed "MSB plot" to take down this game. I don't know if there is any truth, whatsoever, to this. I don't know if it was a joke, if it was a few people trolling and when they got found out they decided to point fingers this way to try to cover their own ass, or what. What I do know is that no one on the moderation staff here condones any sort of behavior in regards to 'taking down' games, trolling games, or otherwise misbehaving on them. And we certainly don't appreciate anyone doing so in MSB's name.
... does it REALLY need to be said, in a Mod Voice, that MSB doesn't condone with... ... plots to take down low activity games with weird policies?

Frankly, not only did it not need to be said, but that you felt a need to say it, is a little problematic.
Here's the thing: Your entire premise is bullshit. You don't know if it was a joke, because you know, it probably doesn't even EXIST. You don't know if it was trolling, because it probably doesn't even EXIST. You have other heavy handed statements about Don't Appreciate and Don't Condone, but you're landing heavy on STUFF THAT DOES NOT EXIST.
Your first thought, "I don't know if there is any truth--" presented with staff showing a rampant tendency towards paranoia and bad behaviors, should be just to stop there.
You didn't need to Mod Voice this. You didn't need to respond to a paranoid game which got some bad reviews being, predictably, paranoid.
It is so far beyond not helpful to say, "no one on the moderation staff here condones any sort of behavior in regards to 'taking down' games, trolling games, or otherwise misbehaving on them. And we certainly don't appreciate anyone doing so in MSB's name." because as far as I can tell, that DID NOT HAPPEN.
People bitched about a game which is weird and has weird policies and weird behavior. Game got all OMG CONSPIRACY OF DOOOM THEY ARE OUT TO GET US. This, since you've seen a thousand times, deserves a response of: ... nada.
Don't feed the trolls. In this case, the trolls are the guys with the wild conspiracy theory.
-
Conflict of interest exposure: I app'd a char there. I never played it. Before I got past the weird feelings of 'why am I playing a minor' to remember Buffy, other people I knew well had a series of very weird experiences. To which I promptly nope'd away.
-
Is it however that wild of a conspiracy theory? Have you seen some of the people around here?
I personally think it's completely viable that some of the bridge folks in these parts would collectively get together and say 'Well, we have no joy in our lives let's go fuck with someone'.
Now enforcing the approach that the forum mods don't condone that? Sure that should go without saying obviously. But to believe that people around here are incapable of such things would be pretty damn naive. I'm actively trying to take down 7 games myself at the moment just to disprove your lack of conviction.
-
Working under the assumption that the moderation here is still struggling to reach equilibrium, understandably so given it's been almost, but not quite, anything goes, I'll note a few things as to why that should never have been a moderator post so we can hopefully avoid such things in the future.
As is obvious merely from reading the threads here, there is no such formal plot or conspiracy to bring down that game nor any game. One can assume that the proponents of the game interpret saying bad things about it to be the so-called plot but that's their problems. So a moderator post was made to the entire board to not do something that's not being done. Unnecessary.
But let's assume, for the sake of argument, that one or even a few people have 'plotted' to take the game down. They're obviously not doing so publicly here. Will the moderators, if they have suspicions of who might be doing so, start reading their private chats? Set them whatever the forum equivalent of 'suspect' is, if one exists? Let's say it goes beyond suspicions. Let's say it's confirmed that these people are trying, on their own, to bring the game down. And? Will they be banned from MSB for actions they take off the forum?
All of these hypothetical responses are starting to sound rather familiar aren't they? You don't pull your gun unless you are prepared to use it, they say. At least on tv.

@auspice Wouldn't there need to be some sort of posts to try and enlist all of MSB into any such plot for said plot to exist?
Anyone who's tried to get all of MSB to agree on - let alone sign up for and act upon - anything would laugh at the notion.

So again. Why is @Auspice going 'MOD VOICE' on the issue?
It looks really dumb, and you seem to be ignoring the people (other than me) saying that.
-
Also, let's face it, the level of pathetic involved with 'people are having fun, but my kind of fun, so let's ruin it for them' is, well, I can't imagine that kind of person having the mental wherewithal to actually play a text-based game.
I'm pretty sure that most of the people who post on MSB do so because they actually love MUs in general. It would be pretty freaking weird to go around being assholes to people doing the stuff we love, even if their version might not be to our tastes.
-
@tempest I am ignoring you, because I don't care. If you think it looks dumb, well, it's the Hog Pit and you can say it.

It sounds a lot like you're realizing this whole 'mod' thing was a disgusting failure, but you refuse to admit it.
There has been a marked decline in activity on the board outside of the "Hey what flavor of cupcakes do you guys like :D" kind of threads, ever since the 'Administration on MSB' thread blew up.
-
Start your own forum that will be even more exciting and filled with your perfect utopia? I mean, for fuck's sake, it's a forum. There are real issues out there and you're expending your energy on forum politics. Did I fucking time travel back to 1992 AOL?
-
If anyone wants to start a new forum, I'll provide free hosting as long as we can agree to use something other than NodeBB, which I find to be just terrible.
-
@bobgoblin When you have devolved into "HAHA YOU ARE TAKING MY BAIT LOL" and "there are real problems in the world", you have lost whatever argument you thought you were having so hard. I have skimmed this thread at best, so this isn't even about the content of your comments, just the form they are taking. Tempest is a way better troll than you. This way lies madness.
-
I appreciate your insight, please elaborate.

Okay. When a person says things like "well you just make it so easy", or "lol I'm trollin u and you fell for it so hard", they are attempting to shape the narrative with that statement, regardless of what is really happening. It's like saying "the NFL called me to say they were super sorry for scheduling a game during my birthday party". Even if the NFL corrects that, publicly, the statement is out there so that SOMEONE will believe it.
And "well who cares about this when people are starving in North Korea" arguments are also not very sound to make, because one bad does not remove another. A better alternative might be "Why do you care so much?", because then the onus is on the other person to justify (or slip up and make a bad argument YOU CAN POUNCE ON). Go get em, tiger.
ETA actually most of this went on in the other thread. But whatever!

It's true. We'd all argue over a free lunch.

@dontpanda no we wouldn’t.

@mietze YES WE WOULD!
I mean, uh, what were we talking about again? Did somebody mention free food? <perks>
