My office just went to essential staff only. They are limiting access to the rez, and even tho the schools aren’t closed yet tribal council has let the superintendent know our kids will be staying home until further notice. We are trying desperately to keep this thing from getting to our elders. I really hope we manage.

See, this is why I just don't buy video games within six months of release.

One of my greatest worries of late seems to be coming true and I'm having a hard time keeping cool and not becoming distraught.

Almost got into a physical altercation with someone who was in the middle of buying ten packages, if not more, of toilet paper, bragging about how much they were going to make reselling it.

The only thing I regret is not putting them through the nearby Cadbury Creme Egg display. The SO reminded me that they were not going to pay the bail money if I got arrested for assualt. Or at least, not right away. I hope.

It's for wiping after using the toilet.

I am staring down the barrel of losing my day job income; I'm perfectly capable of doing tutoring online and globablly and you'd THINK there would be an uptick, but a) parents think they know more than anyone else and b) with teachers online, I'm looking a bit redundant. This is going to be really bad.

Was able to get my sick kiddo tested, luckily he thought the suit with respirator thingy the tester was wearing in the tent (drive thru testing site to keep people isolated and out of the building). Now just a 3 day wait. 😞 and I had to fight like hell for that test.

If you get sick, I highly recommend using whatever alternate means that allows you to connect to a doctor or provider that can order testing. (A lot if medical groups now have virtual or text appointments) rather than the nurse line, you'll wait for hours on hold and they can only direct you to go to the ER if you are seriously ill. I messaged his pediatrician to appeal, got contacted on the weekend by her nurse who sent me a link to the texting service run by the HMO, spent only about 45 minutes waiting there and finally got an order for the test because I could explain the situation more broadly than just his symptoms.

But I am sure it wont be long until that avenue might be very slow too. Please stay safe. It has been pretty hectic and anxiety ridden at our house since friday.

My stepfather is a physician at a large public hospital. They've moved all ED operations to outside the hospital and are set-up in temporary modular tents.
He sees his getting as a when and not an if but he's pretty relaxed about it.

A lot of family friends, etc have been calling him and my mom trying to see if he can flex on getting them a test but the criteria for getting a test where they live is pretty stringent, so most people, for now, are just presumed positive.

On the upside, a clinical trial for a vaccine candidate has started. No idea if it will work or not, but it's something.

If it helps, amazon/ebay/and various sites are refusing to let anyone post reselling toilet paper so as not to gouge people that need it.

The supply issue is that it comes from China and well.... so the retailers had to get on a call with with White House (not kidding here) and talk about how to go around that and get supplies back up.

People were panic shopping. They do this for storms too. Oh there's going to be a blizzard (that people live through every year) wipe out the stores of their stock and replenishment.

I'm hoping it dies off in a few (the panic around it and the hoarding).

                                    eggs, flour, and sugar.
These were all completely out of stock when I did my shopping today.

people don't cook. Why they buying up the ingredients. BUY PREMADE STUFF SO I CAN HAVE MY FOOD NEEDS.

I went to the supermarket Friday. There wasn't any meat on the shelves. No chicken, no pork, not beef. Not even the cuts that are over $10.99/lb

I went shopping right before Hurricane Irene and then Hurricane Sandy the following year. It was business as usual. This is unprecedented./

Having grown up in MD and lived for a while in SC: this is well and beyond what you get from a blizzard or hurricane.
