It was. My only gripe is that the special effects for their powers and the fight choreography is not on par for contemporary superhero shows. But it was otherwise really good. Even the aging make-up effects weren't (too) jarring.

I didn't think they cared at all about the choreography. Like, very little attention was paid to it -- there was generic punching, smashing people through walls, flying into targets etc... but the action itself even for the big moment scenes was reserved. Possibly budget-related?

The strength of the show though is in the mystery of who these people are, where they came from and how they came to be who they are. To be honest the second generation anti-heroes were rather unsympathetic though; I didn't find myself invested enough in their fates.

        Re: Jupiter's Legacy

I liked it, fight scenes didn't bother me so much. The story was more interesting. I think the origin story for the Union is good played out but much longer than presented in the comics.

At times the origin dragged a little and maybe part of why the 2nd gen felt a little flat. There's lots of relations they've built as kids growing up in a super society that are all off screen and assumed it seems.

This said, I enjoyed it too, has me wanting to do another OC supers MU* but the last one didn't get any tractions alas (but coral springs is still being played by a few people).

I'm just a surge protector doing my job, sir.

@lotherio there was an all OC super hero game in recent times? One issue there may have been marketing.

As far as I know, Champions MUSH is still around.

Personally, I REALLY prefer OC super hero stuff, as I never feel like I can do justice to pre-existing heroes. And also, it seems like SuperHero MUSHes tend to degrade into like, who's dating who, and not a lot of 'action' going on aside from that, and they also tend to lack any sort of statted system. So I'd just as soon play something OC, make my own char within a system (like Champions) and go from there.

            Personal pref. =P

I guess it was more like two years ago that I tried, 2019'ish (10 Ravine). I like some stats, but Champions is a bit much for me. The 2019 one and Coral Springs both worked off FS3. Coral Springs had stats for making dice rolls but didn't work with the combat system. Ravine use five elements philosophy and there was a bunch of special modifiers under the engine so like someone associated with fire got an attack bonus against wood or metal, but earth and water got a bonus defense against fire.

With Coral Spring it was light hearted after watching Sky High. Ravine 10 was more horror infused in a way (driven to use power or become melancholy, use power to much and succumb to rage). Between the two, I liked the developing origins on Coral Springs and wanted to get like closer to the root event, so Ravine is sort of similar to Wild Cards meets Andromeda Strain. Probably not enough advertising as you mentioned but it was advertised here just a little.

I prefer the action too and running adventures but getting onto an FC game is like Ortallus said, who's dating who. Like if everyone is in Bat sphere and I want blue devil, chances are I'm getting no RP on that game unless I make someone in Bat sphere that someone else wants.

@arkandel Same here. Good adaptation. I can understand the 'drawn out origin' complaints, but I can see why they're doing it.

                  1. More episodes=more money
                  2. Not every viewer is going to be comics nerd enough to understand the references without background.

@lotherio There aren't any currently around that I'm aware of, but you might want to keep a lookout for Mutants & Masterminds 3rd Edition games. All the flexibility and granularity of Champions, with way less dice rolling and much faster combat.

Yeah, I'm aware there are no new OC supers games around, I meant Jupiter's Legacy has me wanting to make another one. Anything involving using a TTG and lots of coding is off the list for me. I'm less after a game myself.

Man I would love an OC superhero game. I always had a lot of fun coming up with powers and concepts. There are so many new directions to take it now too; making the superhero a marketing strategy ala The Boys, or going Superhero Horror ala Invincible and also The Boys. I just miss the genre a lot.

Another Good TV to watch, though I haven't finished it, is Amazon's 'Them'. Very good though some have described it as 'racist torture porn', but its not surprising considering the setting and the theme. Plus, in my opinion it is very much warranted that they show these things. If you want a horror series, I recommend it. Here's hoping it ends strongly too.

@cadi I watched a good portion of Them and couldn't get through it; maybe it was the timing of the show's premiere but it just felt to me like it was trying really hard to be Lovecraft Country.

It started production before Lovecraft Country but was in development hell for too long.

It's very, very good. And different enough in plotline from the book that either will surprise you a little if you enjoy one and then the other.

I am enjoying The Bad Batch so far. I don't think Disney has gotten the memo yet that an animated show is not obligated to include child characters/pander to a hypothetical young audience, so the tone is sometimes kind of bizarrely inconsistent -- it's supposed to be a pretty dark and gritty take on the early days of the Empire but then has painfully campy moments that jar me out of the setting and my suspension of disbelief, but...again, Disney, whatchagonnado.

                                        Overall it is pretty fun!
