And now they refuse to give updates or any estimate of when things will be repaired.

Yes. I realize our mini "neighborhood" is the old country/rural ish parcel sandwiched between two McMansion land developments and gee it's so inconvenient for you to have to service us, Frontier, but...fuck you. My husband telecommutes to fucking London which means he can't do his work like he needs to while this is out, and we are totally without landlines in the meantime.

Might be time to bite the bullet and pay to have cable run out here for the internet only option. At least then there would be an option. Waiting a week calling every day with no update or proactive communication and only finding out things by walking down and talking to repair crews who weren't even on our repair ticket (they were there for our neighbor who called a day after we did)--unacceptable!

You might want to see if there is a direct wireless service in the area. When I lived in the middle of nowhere, my high speed options were satellite, cellphone, and amazingly a company had direct wireless in the area but, I had to many trees so it didn't work for me. It may be an option and should be significantly cheaper than running a cable.

We have too many trees for satellite or direct. I love our property, but we are on a couple of acres of old growth. There's a field but our house is in the trees, which is fantastic for heat control in the summer and beautiful awesome bit scary in windstorms and sucks for tv reception and access.

Stabbing at the sister property last week. Police raid at my property today. I'm questioning my decision to move to a new city for better pay.

Ugh, my Table top DM seems to have fallen in love with Labrythn Lord, citing a preference the old school experience... that went out of style 5 years before he was born.

I tried to convince him that 3d6 down the line, rolling for level 1 HP was lame and wouldn't make for any sort of campaign, but he was all jazzed to do it.

We set up ambushes and plan out our method of attack and he's like, 'Fuck it, roll initiative! Oh, the giant beetles hit for 9 damage, you die! HAHAHAhaha isn't this fun?!'

And he wants us to take his 'campaign' seriously, getting upset when we decide to leave the dungeon where harpies that hit for 4x our HP with each of their 3 attacks live, and start planning on killing the merchant who sells things for 2x list price after he tells us we get xp for GP found and much less than xp for killing shit.

I'm don't think I'll ever be drunk enough for this.

The key there is to make a wizard with a 16 constitution if you can swing it, then you have at least 3 hp and more likely 4 or 5. Rolling a 1 for hp on a d4 is less painful than rolling a 1 on a d10 or d12.

@Lithium Yeah, my first character was a wizard, but he died screaming to giant beetles because held actions aren't a thing.

My current character is a fighter with a 3 constitution because fuck it, other classes take too long to roll up when they're just going to die in one encounter.

The OSR is one of those things that baffles me. For the most part I did not like the original D+D or really AD+D all that much, and have zero desire to go back to those days. Granted I do still love the first games I played (the TSR Marvel Superheros followed shortly by MERP) so my nostalgia might just be flavored different.
I remember trying D+D for the first time. I am thinking it was the red box basic set days and remember thinking it was profoundly limited compared to the MERP we had been playing. If someone I knew ran an OSR style game and invited me to it I would definitely decline.

Once I found AD&D I dropped basic that instant and never looked back, unless it was to check out some Larry Elmore artwork. AD&D is okay, I like it mostly because magic felt magical--it was rare and powerful and difficult to progress, but I'd much rather do gurps, savage worlds or runequest these days.

I've had a headache for more than a day and I've been a bit too bitchy for my tastes. I'm impressed with people who have to live with chronic pain, because damn I'm annoying with just a headache.

@Thenomain headaches are the worst though. After suffering two years of tendonitis and plantar fasciitis I'd gladly take those again over a goddamned headache. I'm really glad that I just go blind from my migraines rather than getting the super painful ones.

That feeling you get when you finally get a day off after a month of no days off?

It's a lie. Because then they turn around and you don't get another day off until Mid-March. Also you work double shifts seven days in a row because lolsomeoneonvacation.

So close to just dropping this job.

Video games with ending "boss-fight" scenarios. They really need to let you scum save, or at least save-point somewhere in the middle there so when you inevitably die because you have no idea what's going on you don't have to start all over again. Unless the game is set up as an endurance test, surprising you at the end like this may be a usual kind of thing but it's nonsense and should be stopped.

With that in mind, I have completely finished only one of the three Shadowrun Returns games.

I really didn't like the last battle in the first Shadowrun Returns game. Actually, I just didn't like the ending at all. It was like they were struggle for UGH MEEEEEANING beyond the run itself, and that was lame.

Come on, folks. You don't need to have earth-shattering ramifications to make a game interesting.

When you're in the middle of no days off until Mid-March and you're about to start job hunting...

And your boss tells you he's retiring in two-three months and he's putting your name up the ladder for his replacement.

I'm not guaranteed the job, but it's JUST ENOUGH to keep me from bailing. Those sneaky, sneaky dicks. Now I'm going to suffer through it in the slim hopes that I get the promotion and when I don't get it I'll be back to job hunting, only 2-3 months further down the road.

                                          I'm furious.

In my experience it takes 2-3 months minimum to find a new job unless you've got something obvious lined up. So no reason not to keep looking discretely. If you stumble onto something, it's leverage if they do end up offering a promotion.
