@Tinuviel As long as your smoke doesn't travel outside where you sit, its all good.
You ever look downwind?
-
@Misadventure I sit down wind. I also rarely smoke in public, if I can avoid it. My peeve only extends to self-righteous motherfuckers that park themselves next to me while I'm smoking and then complain about it.

If you fucking sit on a patio next to someone who smokes, you accept the consequences. Failing to do so makes you the fucking nuisance.
-
@Ganymede Further reason to adore the Gany.
-
And if you fucking sit down 10 yards upwind from me, and don't realize that you still stink from that distance, you're the nuisance. Nice of you to address the added topic of RANGE, instead of sticking to who got where first.
-
@Misadventure It's very much still about who got their first. If I'm smoking ten yards away, regardless of windage, you don't have a right to complain if you arrive after.
-
@Tinuviel The problem is creates a race. Think of a company where everyone gets their lunch break at noon, and suddenly you have people rushing to get there first to 'tag' the resting area for themselves.
It's not sustainable.
-
@Arkandel I don't really care about sustainability in this case. If it's legal to smoke in said 'resting area' then I'm going to ruddy-well smoke there if I arrive first. If people don't like smokers, for whatever reason, they can go elsewhere if they happen upon me while enjoying my hourly-ish cigarette.
-
I actually support people having a space to smoke in. However, smokers seem oblivious to the fact they take up both space and time that far exceeds their smoking presence. The reach is far enough that it gets sorta stupid . "Hey could you go smoke 50 yards away in that field?"
Its part of why I support vaping, it doesn't have nearly the same range.
Anyway I just wanted to get in on the fun. Thanks!

Most companies provide resting areas indoors. Some provide them outdoors as well. In the case of the latter, the smokers have one place to go; the non-smokers have two. And you are a thorough asshole if you, a non-smoker, decide to park your ass in the outdoor area and bitch when the smokers come out to the only place they are allowed to take a break and do something legal.
Be fucking considerate. I am. When I smoke (which is not often during the day), I do it somewhere that few people are bound to bump into me, except for other smokers. And it does piss me off a bit when people wander on through and complain because, those fuckheads are invading my smoking space.
It bugs me a bit more when it comes to vapers because those motherfuckers think they're the cock of the walk for engaging in a behavior that is likely just as damaging to others, and yet act like they are God's fucking gift to the world. Like, let me see if you vape when you fart after I kick that fucking device twelve-inches up your ass, fuckface.
Don't even get me started on vapers who walk into places with a NO FUCKING SMOKING SIGN, and then bitch about how it's not illegal for them to vape around others and that their rights are being trampled on. Like fucking join the club, assholes, and take it fucking outside you saprophytic shitwipes.

I'm not saying I don't believe you. I'm saying I don't have very much information on this and would like to see some more. What little I do have says vaping is far less harmful to both the user and the user's environment than is smoking, but … studies can be bought.
-
My own thoughts on smoking and vaping as a former smoker, I would one hundred percent rather hang out with smokers rather than vapers for one reason, sadly smoking looks cool watch old movies or hell even know movies granted it is all a cultural construct but there is a cache to smoking. I have yet so see someone vaping that didn't look dorky as well in the process. (One slight exception, the vaping gear that looks like cigarettes)

It depends. Arguably it's better in many ways, but you still introduce a lot of crap into the air:
During the vaping sessions substantial amounts of 1,2-propanediol, glycerine and nicotine were found in the gas-phase, as well as high concentrations of PM2.5 (mean 197 μg/m3). The concentration of putative carcinogenic PAH in indoor air increased by 20% to 147 ng/m3, and aluminum showed a 2.4-fold increase. PNC ranged from 48,620 to 88,386 particles/cm3 (median), with peaks at diameters 24–36 nm. FeNO increased in 7 of 9 individuals. The nicotine content of the liquids varied and was 1.2-fold higher than claimed by the manufacturer.
—Schober, W, et al. (2014). Use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) impairs indoor air quality and increases FeNO levels of e-cigarette consumers. International Journal of Hygiene and Environmental Health, 217(6). pp. 628–637. doi:10.1016
Now, whether or not that one's a completely reputable journal/article, I'm not sure! But I can find plenty of similar results with a few more quick journal searches.
Anyway, vaping's probably a lot better than normal cigarettes, you're not wrong. But it's not harmless, either, and if I'm an asthma sufferer I'm probably not going to feel particularly well-disposed towards _anyone) riding the bus or whatever who's putting crap in the air that makes it hard for me to breathe; whether it's normal cigarette smoke, pot (HI I'M FROM SEATTLE AND BOY THERE IS A LOT OF THAT BEING SMOKED AROUND HERE LET ME TELL YOU), or e-cigs/vaping is not particularly going to matter.
-
Plus, some of the 'juices' for vapes smell downright horrendous.
Like, same category there as people who drown themselves in perfume or cologne.

I'm allergic to pot, tobacco and cologne and most vaping fragrances, and I live in a state where people smoke and/or douse themselves in that stuff. I had to give up playing gigs because I got anaphylaxis anytime I played a set in a club. Now that I work outside, I still have to breathe it and my lungs and throat are trash at the end of the night.
People have no idea how far their malodorous shit carries, and it's not like I can choose not to get sick from it.
Pot in particular has gotten nastier in the last decade.

i am also allergic to pot smoke and I live in Colorado. going to concerts and shit is horrible.
-
It does amaze and infuriate me that too many vapers don't seem to have one ounce of smoker's etiquette. I now have to expect that vapers are going to have the self-awareness of a two-year-old about it, and am thankful at those who offer the same consideration as most smokers.

Smokers have had a basic sense of courtesy beaten into them by years and years and years of being pushed away from civilized society. Vapers and people who wear obnoxious amounts of perfume are next.
