It was previously mentioned to be the FFG L5R Beta, but... the FFG L5R RPG is published now, so that might be the thing. OR I could be wrong, not sure what coding has been done.

If skew's SW game is a smashing success code-wise, then you could feasibly run a L5R FFG game if that game'll let you take bits of that code.

      And it'd be on Ares.

My code is currently for evennia. I'm not opposed to switching to Ares. I mean, i was going to use Ares but when I said I was using it I was told not to use it by Faraday so I didn't.

@alzie Yep, they made sets/material for some of them (there was a full RPG for Burning Sands, too). They also made material for non-samurai (monks, Ninja, Kolat) playable nonhumans (nezumi, naga) and various other weirdness. RPG splatbook creep is a thing (see: old White Wolf), it doesn't mean that all of that material is good or easy to integrate.

Of the stuff you've mentioned, the Great Famine is probably the most sensible. I've always liked it as a less grandiose, more human take on things, and avoids totally changing the cosmology, technology, etc as many of the others do. All the others also kind of buck default game assumptions (even changing the core great clans) and may be hard to do, especially with a new ruleset.

I'm not staff there, but I can shed some light on this as a player there. The policy is that they slowly introduce new series during certain chapters and acts (ie Chapter 1, Act 2) as the grid and plot focus(es) shift around.

It's had some pros and cons, but I think it's ensured several games' plots don't start out of the gate at the same time and compete with each other. Also, some plot items, like WA2, are already being dropped in hints. I hoping it'll have the side effect of also allowing new people of feeling able to jump in without having to be there at the MU* opening, too, but that's just my theory.

As for the one other place I've been on:
Battle Fantasia: Been on there on and off. If you like magical girl anime and the whole aesthetic of it, give it a try. I couldn't really get into it after a while, but that was more me than staff's fault.

I have no idea what this report has been about. I rather assumed at first it was a sarcastic response to a spam post that got deleted. I even went there and it looked like a parked address at first glance.

I like the remote bodies. Especially if we can remote pilot other objects via our remote bodies. Then we can go down three more dream levels, until we have become south park horders.

@AmishRakeFight I think the problem most games come across with PvP is that they lack mechanics for alternate conflict resolution, let alone incentives for them. On RfK there were both, which is why I think it worked so well. You had boons as a way of settling matters and backing off, or by way of making a loss or a win mean something, and proxies in the form of actual territories/influences you could attack instead of blowing the person up. Then you had further incentives to avoid killing anyone because it was against City law. Vampires being vampires (with all manner of ways to ferret out a secret), and players being players (mostly incapable of keeping secrets, IC or OOC), if you did do a PK you'd probably lose the character.

Sandboxes are ruled by combat thugs because inevitably all conflict boils down to a question of if you can PK the other, and the only consequences come from the possibility of some buddies seeking revenge.

      @Chime said:

Now if they can spoof IPs (not all that hard), then things get more complicated, but usually that results in other problems first.

To elaborate what she means for those unaware, I will translate.

Chime: 'Applications that can ban ips after a certain number of authorization failures are great!' slight shift in posture 'Until someone that knows that you're using one modifies their headers and blocks your IP so you can't log into your own server.'

You might even be asking, how hard is it to tell that these programs are being used? Not hard. Trivial even. They're not even recommended. By anyone. Anywhere. Except here I guess.

However if we're being fair, Security by Obscurity isn't a recommended solution either, it's just one of those things that you tack on as an after thought because you can.

Case in point (For thread necro): If you rely on either of these things for your security you've already lost.

2nd Case in Point: This is why my thread wasn't entitled: How to secure your hosting box.

I had wondered why you were all double-quoting like that. For now, you'll probably have to be careful to remove the extra ">" until it's fixed.

@Thenomain I released an update. 2.1.0. It introduces a couple of new things. First the good news.

      New features:

Supports new comment syntax: /* ... */ and //... Simplified some of the regex expressions (I rewrote 5 into 2) Supports Penn (and rhost? I think?) named Q register format (IE: %q<test> is highlighted) #-X is highlighted Added a couple of @ commands.

Just a note, if you added your own functions, you'll need to readd those after the update. If you don't want to update but want the new highlighting, you can just copy paste from the github the new grammar regex's and delete the old ones.

Bad news, apparently you can't do multi-line matches. It is based on textmate and textmate doesn't do that. This may not be true, but Atom has horrendous documentation on creating custom grammars and I couldn't find a grammar that did multi-line highlights. All the forum posts I read about multi-line highlights basically said 'lol brah, no.' So yeah, I assume that what @thenomain wanted with /* .. */ was multi-line matching but no go so far. Maybe one day Atom will write documentation for their grammar engine.

It's only getting better @bobotron. I've changed a bit around but here's some more shots of it.

      +jobs output: https://gist.github.com/ccubed/b8a532fce646e84e806e

It's different, yes, but this job system isn't meant to spit a massive amount of useless information out at you. It should be easier to find the jobs you need to work, not force you to slog through 289 jobs that you're not looking for.

      +job # from a staff bit: https://gist.github.com/ccubed/93586f4972105111d18b

They see everything. I changed it around and it now shows [Comment ID] or [Comment ID-Staff] to indicate flags the like.

      +job # from a player: https://gist.github.com/ccubed/5fdb8579a871862af2b8

On the other hand, the player only sees two comments. But what if we wanted only our friend sasha to see comment #2. Well per comment reader blocks work. Yes they do.

+job from the player after I blocked them on that comment: https://gist.github.com/ccubed/426b8380a868c29a1584

And sample output from searching by +jobs/mine: https://gist.github.com/ccubed/a7870dea1d55b5475877

Why does it seem that female staffers have it out for female players/characters? They missed the GIRL POWER and all that? Besides I'm not trying to RL start anything with anyone. Hell, I feel bad for the one time I stole someone IC because I didn't know OOC. Ah well. Okay. I find some days she's great and others she's less than great, but good to know it's not just me.
