I self advocated! And it worked! I was a little blunt and firm and used words like 'unacceptable' and 'would like to bew acknowledges as a partner in my mental health' and 'I dont feel like you are listening to me'. So now I will soon get non stimulant ADHD meds!!!

(because Kaiser hates cannabis and wont gimme stimulants lest I am 100% pee test clean. And as a former daily user who is overweight, tha'll take a bit.)

      So, woo!

this is awesome. 🙂 I'm glad to hear it.

My doc is sending me to a psychiatry office that specializes in adult ADHD and takes my insurance. It's a few steps further but. It's a step.

there's a reason why versatile bisexual women are often called "unicorns"

      I'll bite.

      Why?

Because we (hi, bi lady here) are considered by an uncomfortably large percentage of the straight male population, to be TOTALLY into threesomes.

A lot of bi ladies (I've done it) actually mark themselves on dating sites as lesbian because otherwise, it seems like all you get are couples messaging you to be their third. 😐

This dude sitting in front of me at this book signing stole his seat from someone who had to step away and was kind of a douche about it.
Including dragging it forward / out of line from everyone else (he's clearly soooooooo important).

But every time I have a coughing fit (into my scarf mind you because even tho it's asthma I know how people might feel) he leans forward and hunches and looks super uncomfortable so ha ha fuck you buddy.

despite many of the PC's at the time being all for hunting down and raiding the Grounders and wanting revenge or retribution for so and so being captured or hurt by the Grounders.

Really? Because I wasn't around for the Adult PCs/Mountain Men storylines. But I was there for the initial grounder stuff. What I recall is everybody wanting to nut hug the Grounders, and sympathizing and excusing them every step of the way.

I find that to be a common problem on MU*s. People are so afraid to hold to antagonism.

On Arx, my character is married to a foreigner... and has a shav in her employ. I've been really glad for the people that look side-eyed at it and wonder if her head is in the right place. 😉

    • Threads of Pern

So this may be wildly off the mark for this crowd, but you never know!

There's a new Pern game out there. It's very small at the moment, so plenty of opportunity. Insta-riders are not open at the moment, but that may change. You can app in Crafters from apprentice to master. Setting is shortly before the 4th Pass (Threadfall will begin roughly February of next year) around Fort Hold / Weyr. Fort Hold, Fort Weyr, and the Harper Hall are the IC locations. Characters must be at least 12 (with a preference for 16+ for Impression).

They've relaxed a few things from canon/standard. Transgendered characters are welcome and while there's no surgical procedures, there are essentially herbs/medications that can be taken. Golds and bronzes still do impress to biological gender, but there's no restrictions for the other colors. There's also no sexuality preference for dragons. Wanna be a lesbian goldrider? Go for it. Wanna be a hella straight man with a sassy green? Get on with yourself. Women are seen as equals to men. Individual viewpoints may vary, of course, but overall... Feel free to be flexible in your character.

Search will be really chill, too. You'll just set a flag on yourself. They'll search roughly 2x the PC eggs. If you're not going for a metallic and aren't opting for 'full immersion,' you'll know if you're going to Impress and have an active hand in making your dragon.

I joined because one of the Head Staff is a long-time friend of mine and I know she's both no-nonsense and low drama (aka if you cause issues, she will have no qualms giving you the boot). As I've gotten to know the rest of Staff, I dig them, too.

So, yeah. Pern. Not for everyone, but I figured I'd post because you never know. The game is still very small, still in progress, but we're working on picking things up and a part of that is having more players.

The wiki is still being built, but can be found at: http://threadsofpern.wikidot.com/
      The game's address: whitestar.spundreams.net 4201

I play Annika (Jman Woodcrafter posted to Fort Hold) and M'kel (Bluerider / Asst. Dragonhealer), so feel free to look me up. 🙂

I just wanna say that there are 14 characters currently on the roster.

I'd really, really love to see Alex (older char, law enforcement, lieutenant), Sublett (younger char, law enforcement), Carlotta (corp elite, fashion designer, PC husband and daughter actively played), and Jenna (corp elite, VP, super awesome) played.

The game is active, plenty going on. I'm having a ball.

As someone who played on Fifth World until the end...

I'm sorta put out, I guess, if it's being revived in a private sense? But that'll only go beyond "oh... meh" if I find out any of my chars are being utilized. Which, I'd hope people don't do. That hate in my world still sits with Witchcraft and Wizardry (seriously why require people set whether or not they would allow their char to be rostered if you're just gonna ignore it anyway?!).

    • RE: The 100: The Mush

To add onto @Bored's issue and where I think the sense that these folks (Seraphim and Blu) have their char's at the center of things... and is something I've called out other people on-

A lot of Staffers will run a scene 'from' their character. Unfortunately, in a lot of cases, said character is either high ranking or the other people in the scene sort of cower to the side and 'err on the side of caution' into letting said Staffer PC call all the shots.

I think this is where the sense that 'maybe they shouldn't play' comes in. However, I think it's more simple than that:
Don't run important scenes from your PC.

Run one-off combat scenes, sure. 'Training' scenarios. But if plot, especially metaplot is involved, leave your own character out and run from the ST bit. Because otherwise, it does come across as having your char in the midst of things. Part of that is because, as @bored referenced... Staff PCs tend to be in important/high-ranking spots (for the reasons provided) or you get players not wanting to risk upsetting the ST, so they just fall in line.

The latter is easily resolved by just not sending your own PC on an important scene. Have a varied staff. Let other Staffers run things. Attend their events if you must. But I think something a lot of us need to learn/realize is that when running the game and manipulating the plot... we may be giving up the chance to be a part of said metaplot. And, tbh, I see no problem with that. Play other places to get the 'just a player' feeling. Staffing means giving up on small things... being in the midst of it all is one of them.

Whenever I've had a char end up 'in the lead' (on military type games), they always end up issuing out stuff for others to do. And being in the middle of the pack.

I've never understood the 'I'm the leader so I'll be in the front!' anyway. How can you properly manage your whole team that way?!

      @Wretched

This sort of thing actually makes me angrier with OCD.

Until you've been awake at 4am, in tears as you scrub floorboards... You do not have OCD. Everyone likes things a particular way, but not everyone is crippled by the need for certain things, habits, etc.

(Ever been mocked because you absolutely cannot at all handle a volume setting being anything other than a multiple of 5 (to the point you can't focus, can't think, and it's almost physically painful) and instead of just adjusting...the people you're with decide it's cool to make fun of you? I have. Many times in my life.)

I actually do think no xp or other goodies should be given in beta, which is supposed to be testing and not hard open and usually pre advertising. It sets up an unfriendly environment to "outsiders."

Wholly agreed. XP, etc. should be reset before the full/live opening (as in some cases, it does need to be earned to properly test).

There's definitely something to overcome if you join a game 'late,' but if you're joining within the first couple months a game is open and there's already a massive power curve... something is wrong.

@Darren said in Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.:

@Auspice When I first started tinkering with Ares, some of my friends warned me that Faraday was not at all receptive to people modifying the server in ways she did not personally approve of and that she and I would most likely end up butting heads. I took that warning to heart and have avoided asking her any questions, participating in the AresMUSH forum, or discussing my projects on sites like this (ok so I have not been so good about the last one). That heads-up no doubt saved me (and Faraday) some unnecessary drama, so I am extremely grateful for it.

Not really being critical here since it is her project, time, etc etc, just relaying my personal experience.

      They told you wrong.

Ares is built for custom code. She even welcomes people to submit 'extras' for it. @Tat has provided a few. The Open Weather extra that someone made is amazing and just something Faraday didn't have the time/headspace for.

The issue that a lot of people run into is they demand X feature and Faraday says no and if you want it, make it yourself.

Which she has every right to because it's her code and her time. She has no obligation to make things for other people.

    • RE: Star Wars: Insurgency

I personally feel equating Star Wars FCs to comic book FCs in a MU* sense is sort of unfair.

The reason being that the vast majority of comic book games do a 'Year One' style for FCs. Meaning you choose what history to build for them. Which comic era or even your own take on their background. Add that to the fact that there are so many more of them (with the size of the MU* community nowadays, I think it'd be impossible to run out of Marvel FCs).

But with Star Wars, you have a fairly small pool of FCs unless you go into people apping random Cantina patrons and the like. And a lot of us have been there. On games with FCs. Where plot crops up and the whole scene centers on the FCs in the plot, treating OCs as if they're just there to ooh and ahh at the FCs. Or the majority of FCs sit in their rooms and idle.

Will that happen here? Maybe not. But I've been in the shoes of the OC-player because I'm not cool or Staff-friendly enough to play an FC, struggling to ever feel involved and being told that to 'keep with the spirit of the game' everything must filter through the FCs. Being told 'Your character is special because they get to witness these major figures do their thing!'

That's like telling the kid who sat on the bench the entire season that they're special because they're part of the team.

Who knows. Maybe in six months or so, this game will be great and someone I trust will come along and tell me 'No, seriously, people who aren't FCs and aren't bffs with Staff DO get to be involved!' and I'll happen on by. But I just don't have the energy anymore to put a lot of time and love into an app only to sit on the fringes at every turn.

@mietze said in Fires of Hope: A Star Wars Story:

So you can't make a PC without a player base vote on your concept in competition with others? Or is that just for force apps when/if they open?

And I dunno. I used to play on a ton of SW games and greatly enjoyed it, but never have played force users (or had much contact with known force users).

      It's just for force apps!

And I think the votes being done by the playerbase vs. just Staff is an improvement over some games. There will still be favoritism, that can't be avoided, but I prefer it over the 'We deliberated and thought your app was really great! But we decided to go with <Staff bff> instead' you get on some games (not just SW games, mind you).
