@auspice said in New OC Star Wars MUSH Set in Satellite galaxy -- Come RP With Us!:

The person that posted this isn't an MSBer so I'd view this as a static thread. I think the best way to get answers if you're genuinely interested would be to hop on the game as a guest.

I've been playing this game for a week? week and a half now?

A lot of stuff is being given unto players to develop, which I think is pretty swell. I know that's not some peoples' cup of tea, but I like the freedom it presents.

I'm playing in the Regency and I'm currently stationed on High Centre. I'd love more people to RP with if anyone's been considering checking it out.

@Misadventure I don't have answers to all your questions. I think recognizable Force powers is a yes. I don't know if dark/light will be tracked, though; at least in the traditional sense. But that'd be something to ask Staff. They're still, from what I've gathered, hammering out how they'll do Force stuff (and apps for it).

And the personal tone of some of the reproaching words directed at Auspice was nothing short of outrageous to me.

I can handle a fair bit, but man.

Everyone's got a breaking point and those hit mine. I didn't cry (which is good 'cause I was at work for a good chunk of that), but it was crushing. I really didn't realize until that point how much most of you guys honestly, truly hate me.

And that's why: while I will gladly delete posts, put people on 1-3 day suspension cool downs, and other methods of heavier management... I'm a bit hesitant. I can deal with snippy posts and a bit of back and forth.

I can't really handle spending 1-2 days a week of a thread full of vitriolic threats and hate (which is what I fear would happen if we begin moderating more heavily) because those threads stay out of the Pit since I feel it's fair for the whole board to see criticism against the moderation and I don't want those moved to the Pit since it'd (understandably) be viewed as said criticism being swept under the rug.

      But it's crushing.

You might be able to do it logging onto your Uplay account through their webbrowser. It does not say through the Uplay client how long it is available for.

Looooooks like it worked! (So others are aware: https://free.ubisoft.com/promotions/assassins-creed-black-flag/16/ good through the 18th I do believe.)

And now, to all those that nay-sayed me when I said this is exactly what was going on, and was told I was overreacting and that things were fine and it was just me (waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back before Grounder PCs were even allowed!)....

      I TOLD YOU SO!

      Ahhhhhhhhh, that feels better.

It feels good to be so right, doesn't it?

I do have sympathy for the people who stuck around on the game but hopefully this is their opportunity to find something new and wonderful to experience without the dynamic duo nonsense to ruin it.

I've heard good things about Dystopia. Fallcoast is huge and you can probably easily find a clique to play with. Arx seems to be popping and is a safe haven for Firan refugees.

There's plenty of RP opportunities out there for 'The 100' ex-pats.

I play on both Dystopia (Elizabeth) and Arx (Lou) right now and I'm enjoying both. They're a sort of breath of fresh air because neither is a rehashing of the 'same' I've been dealing with for a while.

I like this couple, as people. I like to RP with them. However, I don't think they should run a game. A TT? Sure. ST on a game? Maybe.

Some people just probably shouldn't run a game and married couples shouldn't do so solo / with the one token person to go 'see? we've got someone to keep us balanced.' 😕

The show not being my speed was my primary reason, but I'm still feeling kinda hurt after 5W and how things turned out with Rozlyn. I really do like playing with these two as players, but I just can't comfortably play 'under' them.

And being involved is awesome. I got pulled into some major metaplot-y foo on Arx yesterday. It came just in time, too. I love my char, but she's not made for noble-ing about a city, so I was feeling a bit directionless.

@arkandel said in Hello MSBites! Grade your administrators.:

"But Bob did it to me before!" may or not be a legitimate concern, and one we can address as well seperately, but at that time it's irrelevant. Are you doing something wrong at that time? Is the fact we had to step in and bring you back in line fair? That's what matters, because if we're just going after you to be dicks and you didn't do anything objectively wrong then that's on us, but if you're the one being a dick then it doesn't matter what Bob did to you 'before'.

There's also the fact that we're adults.

It doesn't matter if soandso did it to you before. This isn't an acceptable excuse when you're ten and it certainly isn't acceptable as an adult.

Now as to downvotes: they were disabled because they affect a person's ability to post. Someone was followed around and downvoted to such an extent that they lost their ability to post entirely. I think one person did this to another rather than a group of people, but it showcases just how it could be used to bully silently.

Some of these suggestions are good, but please remember that we are beholden to a forum suite that is in beta, has plugins that are often not carried over to the beta versions, and none of us have the time nor capacity to code new ones.

And chances are? Any plugin one of us (probably me ;)) does find is going to break as soon as the forum updates to a new version.

So we should focus on solutions that we can enact without coded crutches.

So I have been trying Elite: Dangerous, using a Vive. It is ridiculously immersive but also not ideal for keyboard and mouse.

'Press the Home Key!' I blindly fumble finger random buttons, put my spaceship into 'silent running' mode without realizing, it overheats, thrusters break, I spin uncontrollably into an asteroid and explode.

E:D is bad for keyboard/mouse in general, IMO. I like it with my XBOne controller, but I reeeeally want a Saitek X52 HOTAS. That's like, the prime one recommended. But with my XBOne, I almost never have to touch my keyboard at all. So you might wanna invest in one. With a bit of custom tweaking to the schema and an AI (https://www.hcsvoicepacks.com/ I use ASTRA, but they have ones voiced by Leonoard Nimoy, Brian Blessed, and more), you never need the keyboard.

    • RE: Threads of Pern

      @krmbm

To hit a few points, re: Threads and talks with Staff I've had. One, yeah, Kyriana hasn't been active. I was hoping it was just the lead up to Dragon*Con (she has very heavy involvement and tends to be very busy), but it seems it may not be. She's a good friend of mine, a good Staffer, but she shouldn't be playing the Senior WW.

      For the rest...

      • Threads has just the one area. Fort Hold, Fort Weyr, and Harper Hall
      • Threads is currently in an Interval, but the Pass is due to start around February. aka give enough time for people to get situated, at least one hatching, and go
      • We've been discussing possible conflict options and I know Lexi has asked for input on ideas from people in the Hold
      • Their view on dragons is non-metallics (really non-gold) is that yeah, you're pretty much guaranteed. It isn't in the help file, but you can't say 'everyone who applies for a chromatic gets one,' because you need some protection for situations in which that's not feasible. You don't want Bob not RPing, not contributing, or worse: being a Problem to others... to be able to cry 'BUT I WAS GUARANTEED A DRAGON.' In talks with Staff, yeah. You want a chromatic? You get it.

Honestly, easier to get dragons is a shift a lot of games have finally taken. I remember when you had to apply for Search but somehow make it seem like you didn't actually care about / want a dragon or else they'd go 'Oh this person just wants a dragon, no to them.' Of course I want a fucking dragon. It's DRAGONRIDERS OF PERN (the only time this differs is if the game has Dolphineers in which case GIMME A 'PHIN BITCHES).

Threads is new. They're not gonna be perfect. But a lot of these points are things they're already working on. But some things, like plot/story? Can't be all on Staff. Players need to be willing to step up and contribute, too.

Except I think we can all agree that the negative regularly becomes overwhelmingly vitriolic and often dogpiles.

Then that would be an argument for locking the threads to only the ads and legit q+a, nothing will ever convince me that allowing positive without negative as well is anything else but an attempt to allow others to blow smoke up my ass which is the exact reason I have have the entire ad section on ignore for months.

Which is why I'm proposing exactly that. Threads in which only the staff for the game can post informative information, along with links to threads for more expansive discussion at large (so that the broader discussion is not 'hidden').

Negative discussion and disagreements (so long as it is not 'down and dirty') is allowed in the Constructive areas.

@roz said in Hello MSBites! Grade your administrators.:

I'm not sure why you're arguing about this. Didn't @Auspice bring up ad threads specifically to say "It might be time for us to just lock the ad threads to just their ads and let people discuss them elsewhere and we can leave links to the other threads"? She's already agreed to a thing that fulfills your wants.

      Thank you.

ETA: F&L was an example of this. Someone posted a 'negative' review, but went into an extremely gross, sexually repulsive depiction of the game runners. Of course we weren't going to leave that in place. Isn't that precisely the sort of thing we stand up against? Personal attacks on such a scale? But people freaked out that we were removing negative reviews. However, once the initial fire died down, someone else came back and posted a negative review of the game itself (without personal attacks on the game staff, but on their methods) and that review stood. Reviews like that would be wholly acceptable in a thread in Mildly Constructive and could be discussed. This could remain in an open area, accessible by anyone, and be in a link right within the Ad thread itself.

I think this would satisfy what both @bored and @ThatGuyThere are asking for.

@auspice Thanks for that! I was not going to pay full price, having heard it runs out of content fairly quickly, but definitely wanted to give it a try.

Elite Dangerous is amazingly immersive in VR but I got to the point where I had a fully equipped Vulture with money in the bank and just sort of bounced on further content.

Have you done much exploration in E:D? I find it hard to imagine 'running out' of content in Elite. There's an entire galaxy! Or joined up with a company? Joining in on wars or operations is a great way to stay involved.

But as for Bridge Crew... having a regular group of people to play with, from what I see in videos, seems to be the 'trick,' and since I play with 3-4 other people on Sat nights on a regular basis, it seems perfect for us. We have a few 4-player games we keep on rotation.

The one area where we probably disagree is seeing the negative overwhelming the positive as an inherently bad thing.

It's the personal attacks and dogpiling. Negative reviews can outweigh positive, sure.

It's the fact that it becomes a dogpile of personal attacks more often than not... outside of the Hog Pit.

You know this happens. You can't deny that you've seen it. It's in our nature to just shrug and move on when you see a positive post. Or to just hit that upvote. But when it's a negative one? Oh boy, crack those knuckles and dive on in! How many people have joined in when it's even a game they've never played on but have just heard about?
