I think it would end up being to a degree a sort of 'generic fantasy game' in many regards; which would that be the most horrific of concepts? Again, this is purely in my batting ideas around in a public form phase as Ihaven't even heavily contemplated designing or running a game in 8+ years. However, the books gave me an inkling and I know there's been hints here in the past that a sort of fantasy esque game would be something people would like. Something less Lords and Ladies.

Just shooting from the hip, the sorts of character types that might be feasible would be obviously the military personnel, the support personnel and the like. But I could also see political agents and spy sorts having jobs and roles. It is a bit of a more 'narrow' theme in that regard but if approached from a chapter style where every few months the game transitions into a new area following the results of the previous campaign perhaps? Again, just throwing ideas up against the wall to see if anything sticks and to see if other minds have anything.

Just started rereading these books. Would a theme placed in this setting, or a similar garner interest? For those not aware it is a fantasy setting based around a mercenary group. I could see it being run as a political/combat heavy game focused on said Mercenary Group following various campaigns through a 'new land'.

    • RE: Star Trek MU*s

My first MU was a ST mu, my favorite MU was a ST mu. All I miss really is ST mu but like was said, they often become Federation Bureaucracy, Position Sitting (Dept. Heads, Captains, etc), or Report Centralized. I think too often they become staff event driven, sit in quarters and idle, or bar RP.

If any of those sound appealing to a person, then they'll be drawn to it; but as I've gotten older I think that these things are the drawback of the Star Trek genre. So let's be constructive here; is there actually a rectifying solution to those afore mentioned problems?

How do you set up a system that lets people who WANT to be a Captain, be a Captain but not water things down?

How do you have Space Combat without Space Sim?

How do you have stories and adventures that aren't dependent on Staff +events?

How do you have progression as a character beyond promotions, etc?

The answer I have come up with while pondering all these over the years has been Starfleet Academy. Not because yay college, but because yay, variety of jobs. No one is the ships Captain, because as training everyone could get the opportunity. Events can be driven by staff, but simulations can be driven by players and instructors. Iunno, it's the best I've come up with. Any other ideas?

I like to troll threads for giggles personally. However:

If people don't like the game they'll leave. Good for them

If people do like the game, they'll play. Good for them

You have stated your opinion. If Staff chooses to look at it and change what they do based on it, Good for them.

Others have stated counter opinions. If Staff chooses to look at those and keep doing what they're doing, Good for them.

You continually repeating yourself because you feel like people not changing to fit what you want is Good for Nobody.

So with this simple approach, we can see you're Good for Nobody.

From what I've been able to tell. If you're a hot girl you're good to go. So pick a hot Played By cause that'll carry you far. Don't try to do anything that doesn't involve worshiping at the altar of the hot girls and most important, remember that the hot girls are always right.

Aside from that; the RP isn't bad. It really feels 5W to me as well. Basically imo the same game but in a different setting. A good setting, but one nonetheless. I won't even really blame staff for the situation and things are very new but whoever said the stuff about cliques was not far off at all. Cliques naturally form on MU's, this setting basically insists on it happening.

An interesting place, but the name is wrong.

Should be called 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia MUSH' because that's what everything devolves into. Who can yell the loudest, who is plowing who, and 'the Crew' doing everything with everyone else being Artemis or Rickety Cricket.

    • The Waiting Game

Following on a previous thread something hit me and I thought again I'd consult some input from folks like me who have been around the community for some time. Now personally, I remember the time when we were younger and spent a larger amount of time on the games and things happened more quickly. I've gotten older, RL, all that other fun stuff. But this has come up a couple of times for myself as a player and staffer, and friends, so I thought I'd open the box and see what people think. Here is the scenario.

I'm playing the character of Birgid O'shaugnessy and I really need to get a scene in with Sam Spade. A core part of my character's story is sort of involved around Sam's character and it is kind of tough to get my character to some of the development steps without interacting with Sam. So I page Sam's character and ask to see if we can set up a time to have our scene, and get a 'Sure Sometime' sort of answer. Sam's a busy guy afterall, he's got a Real Life and things to do.

Well, Sam's playing alts a lot, even Sam himself and I'm making myself available to him. I'm even RP'ing with his partner Miles to help the window into getting with Sam for a scene. Miles has @mailed Sam on my behalf to set something up but still, Sam doesn't seem to find the time to RP with me. He's RPing alts, he's RPing Sam with other people but when I poke at him it's always something else. I don't want to seem rude, or pushy, but it's really tough for Birgid to move her story along without Sam.

So there's the set up. Here's the questions.

How long is it appropriate to wait on Sam before shrugging and moving on?
Is it acceptable to develop Birgid's story and if it results in Sam's Partner getting killed because of his inaction that is acceptable?
At what point does it become an issue on the wider game scale that Sam Spade, the main protagonist isn't making the time to scene with others who need him their story lines because he's involved with his own circle only?
As an Admin, how do you address this?
As a Player, how would you address this?

      Let the constructive examination commence.

    • Couples who MU together

I've come across a few of these in my days. Been seeing it a bit lately on a few games that are a bit more competitive and wanted to get the communities viewpoint on something.

Is it reasonable to treat the PCs of a couple as alts? Not in the you can't RP together sense but in the can't cause direct benefit to the couple's character sense?

Someone told me that this Star Wars Omens place was opened up after the rage quit of those '19 people' that is going on in the Generations of Darkness thread? Is that true? Cause a place opened up by 19 RL friends that have known each other for 15 years reeks of circle jerking and cliques.

Saga Edition is D&D 3.75, hence why it is so mechanically clunky. Good in some concepts, unwieldly for what we as MU*'ers are generally looking for (which is story and RP over dice mechanics)

Feature Characters: Staff controlled alts to lead the charge.

Force Characters: Staff controlled alts to show off.

Player Characters: non-Staff controlled alts to look on at awe as the staff does stuff.

Staff: Get frustrated players never do anything.

I want to open a game with no standards, no expectations beyond you'll be treated like shit by staff.
