RE: Cheap or Free Games!
The lack of demos is purposeful; as is early access 'rewards'. Companies are trying to hook people in to spending the $$$ before the product can be fully evaluated. I got suckered by SWBF myself because of nostalgia.
As for why Fallout 4 was less than stellar (with the caveat for myself), I could have given two shits about the characters so there was no investment. I was about maybe 6 hours in and just leaned back in the chair and thought; I could care less if these people die. IN fact I kind of think they deserve what they get. Turned it off and moved on with life.

RE: Cheap or Free Games!
I agree with Jaded on that. Tyranny was a more satisfying experience for me.
Also, I do not play games for graphics. I play them for story, mechanics, and fun. There just was something about Torment that left it feeling lackluster to me. I prefer Planescape over Tides. It's not the worst game ever made, but as I said I just value it at about $12. Tyranny I value at around $16.
As point of reference, I value Skyrim at around $40, Fallout 4 is a $5 (I decidedly hated that game), Witcher 3 was a $25 on the Goblin scale. It's all about $$$ for value/time put in that's fun. Best value atm on Steam for myself; Stardew Valley which I value at about $30 based on time I've enjoyed playing it and Darkest Dungeon which is about a $30 value as well.

Having gotten Torment, I did not enjoy it. I find the $$$ to Fun ratio to be too low (even at sale price) but that's also just me. I value the game at about $12.

RE: Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?
@Ominous it's a good system. The magic can get a little cumbersome. However I've found d20 leveling to be a bit troublesome for mu due to power creep between new and old players

RE: Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?
That's actually some of what I miss at times. I know in my logical mind that with RL, family, etc I can't have those 'glory days' of constant chaos happening and that it's very rose tinted glasses.
But there was a time where there were games that shit was always going down it seemed. WC:RH, Star Wars: Dark Horizons (irony there). Those 90's Star Trek games too, like Strange New Worlds, ATS... there wasn't this 'wait for staff to run something' mentality.
Which leads back to; there's a lot of great settings out there. But the problem is it requires people to run and babysit.

Ah Red Horizon -- Now that was a game where I was afraid to not log on for a day because shit was always happening.

RE: Are there any active sci-fi MU*s these days?
Only if your goal is to attempt to be a baby Napolean-esque with an over entitled sense of importance. No offense meant to @Mercutio

RE: Are there any active sci-fi MU*s these days?
Well there's an abundance of nutjobs and spouses out there. This isn't really so much a nutjob as it is a control freak whose way is the only way no matter what.
Which is fine when you make a game.
Less fine when you inherit a game.
From my understanding; Generations of Darkness - Which became Dawn of Defiance, was run by a dramaking, who then turned it over to a husband/wife who eventually decided to stop being in charge of the game after dealing with high maintenance, constantly whining players. Two in particular (referred to as tacobus). Those two now run the game and take full credit for the game; which I find extra amusing to take credit for someone else's work when in fact they're merely caretakers.
When the GoD / DoD split happened, these two staffers (Who for sake of anonymity we'll refer to as Risi/Aria -- Oh wait, that's not really anonymous) staffed on GoD. Then left in an upset huff when they found out that the head admin was altering character sheets to his advantage. They then focused time on DoD. At which point they eventually became admin and then when everyone else left took over. And now alter character sheets to advantage.
The moral of the story? There is none.

@magee101 This was referred to by many as the tacobus. Feel free to infer what you wish about it. Second that game was handed over to nutjob & spouse it was time to abandon ship. (anyone else ever notice the trainwrecks that always accompany nutjob&spouse games?)

RE: What RPG SYSTEM do you want to play on a Mu*?
It really is. Running the game has been a blast, the core mechanics are straightforward enough to dive in and the world/setting lend itself to true adventures. It can be dark and gritty or light hearted and goofy pending the mood of the GM.

I've been running a Numenera Campaign for the past month. I Would be amused to see such a thing in the Community.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
@Bobotron I'm boycotting this movie. Not because of the gay scene. But because I have severe social reservations about a woman and a buffalo banging.

RE: Searching for Star Wars RPI
Aren't there like 27 different Star Wars games already?
How about something new.

RE: The 100: The Mush
I believe, from reading the posts of others, having talked to people and knowing the background of Seraphim and blu, the issue is this being a pattern. A pattern of placing their chars in positions of authority and using those positions to manipulate players into behavior patterns they want. Whether it is as staff of their own games (fifth world/the 100) or of games they've staffed on (Various SW games), the result is always the same.
Play characters and insert self into position of authority ICly and OOCly.
Manipulate things OOCly to match their desires.
Get upset when things don't go right.
Quit.I think the issue people have is that this cycle occurs and when you are making/running the game there is no check/balance on this happening. That's why other staff are important. It's also why when they do this on games they don't run (see: SW games) and the other staff dont' hold them in account, things get rough.
SImply understanding the dynamic you guys create, intentional or not, and bringing it to light is my own attempt. Love RPing with you two, love the stories. Wish that 'self' would come later; especially when in positions of OOC authority.

RE: The 100: The Mush
The flipside Demeanor however is how long can a staffer 'Enjoy' the environment if they can't participate in it. Everytime I find myself 'pitching in' interest starts to wane. I'm a very strict if I'm playing on a game I don't allow my characters to really do too much because I want to heavily avoid the perception of self-favoritism etc. So the social RP goes for awhile but I do find burnout comes faster when I'm not able to push characters. I know it sounds weird but I'm a person that likes goals and growht for a character; which is doable without being a snowflake. But I don't want to do it for myself either because that's weird and people often take the perspective that if you're staff, you can just do it for yourself.
Honestly it's a no win situation. Staff and play a character that can do things, and be judged. Or staff and player a character that doesn't do things, and be bored.

RE: The 100: The Mush
Truthfully I think a lot of my hanging around was this was one of the only non WoD places that had something going on. The lack of non supernatural/WoD environments with activity means you're willing to expand your tolerance of ham in order to be able to play something.

RE: The 100: The Mush
Good community.
Poor Leadership.
Not the first time, won't be the last. Until people start realizing this is the status quo for the dynamic duo it'll continue. Not bad people, just not people who should try to run something single handed. But this is their MO and has been for years upon years. Eventually the community will learn.
J/K, the community won't learn.
