Does this game still have that sand planet (not Tatooine) which was a cheap rip off of Dune with the head wiz's bff's that all have max level skills and force powers? I always loved that part of Star Wars Canon.

RE: All Star Wars Scenes Must be in Cantinas (with Spoilers)
Where would you even start in FFG considering the 3 books have some pretty distinct differences in chargen.

RE: FFG Star Wars?
FFG is so narrative that it's fantastic, if you have a playerbase that can be mature in the results of rolls and story telling this system is a wonderful one.
Then again, MU people and mature...

RE: Star Trek games?
I also believe the inception of the Wiki for record keeping alleviates some of that 'report' burden.

RE: Star Trek games?
Having played on G1 myself (along with a host of other ST MU's) I know what the 'intent' behind reports was about but agree it never carried itself out well.
Also, @Big-Daddy-Amin - I agree with your assessment of what happened socially to ST, and like my original post said I think the 'exploration & risk' of The Martian stuck a nerve of going out there.
So with that in mind; from a 'design' standpoint (and this may need a new thread outside of advertisements) how does one approach a Trek Game. I don't mean setting/etc but is there a means to have a Trek Game that is not completely dependent on 24/7 staff 'running' things?

RE: Star Trek games?
I'm performing a Necro on this thread.
After watching The Martian the itch for space based exploration/adventure (i.e. Star Trek) creeped up but there really is nothing out there. Is there a reason for this? I've seen the standard arguments of the sitting on stations or hiding in bunks etc, but there was a time when you couldn't avoid seeing Star Trek MUSHes and now the only options are a MOO and a decades old space shooter (ATS). What happened to Trek?

RE: Outside the Box MU* Design/Theory
Was the 'mini game' a required part of the game? Did it become the focus of the game? Was it set up in a way to encourage RP while undertaking the crystal gathering or was it just a sort of 'grindy' activity that was there?

RE: Outside the Box MU* Design/Theory
I agree completely with the concept of the gambit of games. Things (imo) have become very stagnant; but there's also the diminishing returns of spreading things out (a discussion for another time). The spur of this thought line is that I see on games quite often players 'waiting' for things to happen. So what kinds of tools could we as game designers employ to encourage players to go and 'do' things. Story Hook design? Automated monsters to fight? Cargos to ship? Again; within the realm of what type of game you want but I'm looking for a 'list' of ideas so that as we get into the design phases we have a toolbox to pick and choose from.

RE: Outside the Box MU* Design/Theory
This is a thought I have for the community at large:
How much 'code' is too much code? Is there a point where using code to do 'things' (Economy, Space, etc etc etc) becomes too much? I know this is a long standing debate in my circles, that too much code causes people to 'game' rather than roleplay but on the flipside it also can put the burden of activity on the players moreso than the GMs. Thoughts?

RE: Cheap or Free Games!
Last Remnant was on sale -- if you haven't played that one, it is definitely a different style of game from Squaresoft, one that I enjoyed.

RE: Current Games
@Monogram A BSG game sounds right up the alley -- is it actually open or just in development because I didn't find any connect info on their wiki.

Gaping Hole in My Soul
I was perusing over the Advertisement thread and noted that there seemed to be a real lack of games at present (outside of WoD) of much variety. Only one Star Wars game? No strong Star Trek games? Original Fantasy seems to have diminished?
Is there a reason there's been such a crushing of these genres and an evaporation of them? I remember when I started MU*'ing in the 90's I couldn't throw a rock without hitting a Star Trek game and now there's the festering corpse of ATS around and nothing else?
Is it the theme? The setting? The canon? I'm just curious why it seems those places just don't seem to exist anymore and if anyone had any ideas regarding it. That same process goes with original fantasy. There was a few months there where a new original fantasy game was popping up and it seems they've really just diminished away? What's the reason this happened?
