Or just get the DS version which has all the cutscenes and extended content, and has standard SNES controls.
@arkandel
That's one of the bigger concerns. Ultimately, my thought process on it, is that it's not intrinsically an easy ritual. It's less 'drop a Phoenix Down' than it is 'invoke Pluto, get a trial to try to bring Jane of House Gaius back to life'. In the vein of Orpheus and Eurydice, it would involve more than just 'Yo, Pluto, my buddy is the most bad-assest bad-ass monster killer ever, and we need him back.' 'Okay, here ya go!' Like, resurrecting the most powerful member of the Legion Mortuum who died from treachery, would require something different than resurrecting your favorite fuckbuddy offspring.
It would more be a plot unto itself, and probably (since it would be a staff-controlled end point) something that would have some tailoring guidelines, and the resources used in general (not just from a plot participation standpoint, but from a resources standpoint; I envision the trial requiring a LOT of blood at least, if not other things that would cost resources in the form of Downtimes, Influence and such).
I could also see some good roleplay come from actually FAILING, and at least getting to perhaps exchange final words with Jane from House Gaius before she straight up goes to... well... no one really knows where a Blooded goes when they die.
@ghost
Along the same line, Starship Troopers (based more on the novels and Roughnecks cartoon, which was a bit more wartime take on it) would be pretty cool.
I mean... that whole image is Gaston and the Beast, with a Gygaxian spin on the art.
@thenomain
Chrono Trigger is probably my third favorite SNES RPG (after FFVI and FFFIV), so you're in for a fun time. It's worth having a couple of different saves so you can test out the various endings without having to New Game+. I hope you enjoy!
I did my +request. I'm like you, there's some media spinning together in my head (Smallville-inspired teen adventures rather than Superboy; StAS/JL/JLU-inspired 'world of cardboard, constantly suppressing his powers' Superman; everyman Christopher Reeve-inspired Clark Kent angle) since I don't religiously follow comics.
@ghost
You'd have to have some sort of good economic/IC benefits system, really. It's why real life PMCs are the way they are; they get paid TONS of money to do the job.
HAHAHA HEADERTABS OH GOD YOU POOR SCHMUCK! I love you, but oh god.
@Runescryer
No worries. The biggest takeaway from this is the issue got big enough (as in, on Russian news sites, which is the primary big thing, and doxxing and death threats) for Paradox to step in and essentially do what most of us who were following expected when the new CEO came on board: take away WW's full managerial autonomy and run it from the business side.
@auspice
Oh yeah, I wasn't expecting that. But you never know. Plus it's weird apping on a game where I can't just go 'Oh, WORD VOMIT STUFF ABOUT GAME'.
Now to just get pitch and stuff written, and some coordination with some people for backstory stuff.
@ghost
Exactly. And a lot of times, the corporation won't out and out say 'Genocide the homesteaders' but will have implied things, or loose enough interpretations (outside of 'OH SHIT YAUTJA') that the concept of shipping them back as criminals is entirely doable.
My fiance is too adorable.
We have a Friendsday Wednesday thing with a set of good friends of mine. We play games and eat dinner and hang. We've been playing MtG. My fiance has gotten big into it and it's so adorable. He's also been building decks and built a really nice white/green dinosaur STOMP deck.
It's just so funny to see him get so into it and excited on building the decks.
We're all also going to play some Yu-Gi-Oh too. Thankfully full playsets of what most of us want to play in YGO is pretty cheap on eBay. POSSESSED STUFFED ANIMALS AND SHARP OBJECTS ARE CALLING TO ME!
@insomniac7809
Right. That's more what I meant by taking away managerial autonomy. When WW was formed, it was kindof the 'pet project' for lack of a better term, for the guy who was the CEO of Paradox at the time, and were 'a self-managed subsidiary'. He's on the board now (I think?) and a new lady took over.
We will see how things go. I like V5 and, despite the controversies, want to see more come out.
So. I had a good spate of writing today. got a few things done, including some 'mythic age legends of the vampires' that I want to share. And by mythic age I mean from the late BCs to 2nd and 3rd Centuries AD.
Legends of the Blood: Other Supernaturals
Myths of the Blooded during these formative years tell of encounters with other supernaturals, both within Rome and without as they traveled afield. Some of these encounters were benign and even informative; others, full of violence and conflict. Though much has been lost to history, secrets kept even in True Death, some have been recorded by Blooded historians.
I AM GETTING THERE WOO!
@faraday
I will. I have the exact opposite experience from you on games where this type of thing was supported. Granted, probably an entirely different subset of players, but the concept is still there.
Hahahah. HAHHAHAHAHAH. At least we're not playing Little Plastic Mens. I refuse to get involved in Little Plastic Mens.
Here's a snip of my current Steam library (yes, it's small), my friend hasn't given me the codes for Stellaris that he has yet and a few other things. And some DRM free stuff I got from GOG as well.
I am just wondering what people do on that game, besides tourneys and general social stuff, since they want to 'adhere to the special canon info' they were given.
I mean, I guess that's cool but that stuff being the only real constant sounds real boring. I'm being entirely serious.
ETA: Speaking as someone who has done a lot of running of RL events that have social stuff (primarily face-to-face in LARP, but also handling staffing on other MU*s), there seems to be a point when there needs to be something else going on. Go to war, investigate magic, breed dragons, slay rogue dragons... If that stuff is there, cool, but it doesn't seem they've given themselves a lot of room to work with to do anything really cool with the setting.
@scourge
If the setting is based in Utopia, the edict from Cyclops and Emma was 'ALL mutants are welcome,' which is why you had people like Fever Pitch and Toad there. So I'd wager if there's a reason for them to come to Utopia (like, say, staff runs a plot where the new anti-mutant reproduction ban is in full swing), I'd say let them. I also hope that non-mutant X-men-related FCs are available (not at ALL because I want to app for Danger, no siree!)
