Nora's the nerd we all needed.
Now we get Batwoman this season too, so... -
RE: Good TV
I don't think this is super spoilery, and I can't find a spoiler syntax for the board.
She referenced Batman Beyond with the slang 'schway' and she referenced the Legion of Super Heroes by name dropping Lightning Lad, and referenced Atom II, Ryan Choi.
-
RE: Good TV
Right. The fact that her first appearance she had a side braid I was like 'OH GOD SHE's GOING TO BE <CODENAME>!'
I didn't expect the references she made to Batman Beyond and the other big one she made.
-
RE: Good TV
The Flash last night was tooooooooo much.
More references to other DCU characters.
Batman Beyond references.
ARGH! NERD LEVEL WAS OVER 9000! -
RE: WoD Alternatives
Cam Banks bought Cortex from MWP and has kickstarted Cortex Prime, which is a Cortex core book with details on how to do all kinds of stuff, using all the various variants of Cortex.

RE: Have you ever cosplayed as your/a MU character?
Does playing a similar-enough-to-almost-be-the-same in LARP count? If so, then yes.

RE: WoD Alternatives
Let's see...
Undying: A PbtA variant with a 'betting' mechanic for conflict. Free text-only copy available on the publisher's site here: https://enigmamachinations.files.wordpress.com/2016/02/undying-free-text-edition.pdf
Witchcraft: One flavor of Unisystem. Free on DTRPG here: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/692/CJ-Carrellas-WitchCraft?it=1
Cortex: Scads of dice, easy to really chunk things into since it's all dice-based, particularly Cortex Heroic or Cortex Drama. There are tons of Not-Masquerade hacks for it. Hell, I have a fairly functional Exalted hack a buddy of mine wrote for it. Not free at all.
OWoD Quickstarts: They released Quickstarts for the four big lines (Vamp, Woof, Mage, Ling) that use d6s and have very clearly defined mechanics. They are meant to be introductory kits but I've wondered how they'd work on MU*. I add them here because I consider them 'different enough' from a standard WoD to be an alternative. Free, but you have to find backups. Can download here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qdiyrxu2tmj0xe0/Quickstarts.rar?dl=0
Vampire Degeneration: A VtM tabletop game taking lots of inspiration from LAMUSH; the writer i think was one of their staffers.
Feed: A more narrative-based vampire game that has a lot of 'build your own type of vampire' stuff. Pay What You Want on DTRPG: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/124387/Feed
Nightlife: A huge product on the 90's which predates VtM. It has an interesting 'spend humanity to gain supernatural powers' mechanic, but it's super super fiddly. Able to create tons and tons of types of supernaturals.

RE: What RPG SYSTEM do you want to play on a Mu*?
@thenomain
I always wondered how the OWoD 'introductory kit' stuff would work on a MU*. They're super streamlined and simple. -
RE: What RPG SYSTEM do you want to play on a Mu*?
I'm a fan of Cortex, but I still find all the 'make Assets and all that extra stuff' too fiddly for my tastes. I love the core mechanic, but reading through various ones I have (Marvel Heroic, Supernatural, and Cortex Plus core) I always go' Ehhhh... this is going to be so much bookkeeping.'

RE: WoD - Storytellers Playground in Evennia
@shincashay
There is one of these out there right now. It's called Tempest and it uses MUX.
I don't think it gets used much. Last time I was on there it was about 20 players across.... 4-5 active mini-MU*s.
What are you going to do to actually get people to utilize this, to get some return on your investment?

RE: General Video Game Thread
@thenomain
Chrono Trigger is probably my third favorite SNES RPG (after FFVI and FFFIV), so you're in for a fun time. It's worth having a couple of different saves so you can test out the various endings without having to New Game+. I hope you enjoy! -
RE: General Video Game Thread
Or just get the DS version which has all the cutscenes and extended content, and has standard SNES controls.

@thenomain
Have you never played CT before? Wow. YEah, you will want to complete the game many different ways. Thee's 13 different endings. -
RE: DigitalOcean Mediawiki ShortURL
@ixokai said in DigitalOcean Mediawiki ShortURL:
ls -la /var/www
Looks like root covers the directories except for the ones I created for some sites, which I set permissions for to my non-root sudo user per DigitalOcean's setup for virtual hosts.

I got:[elmerg@hotbmush-host mw]$ ls /var/www/v5game/public_html/mw/index.php
/var/www/v5game/public_html/mw/index.php
[elmerg@hotbmush-host mw]$

RE: DigitalOcean Mediawiki ShortURL
I wonder if my SSL is messing with it? I wouldn't think so, but...
-
RE: DigitalOcean Mediawiki ShortURL
Oh, my bad. Sorry, I thought the two different things I had posted about the setup might've been getting crossed. It's in the game.conf virtual host config file. I also tried the .htaccess version and it didn't work either. I know mod_rewrite is enabled, which was the first thing suggested to me.
