I'm just going to talk to myself, now!
But I'm going to die if it doesn't become September first. SOON.

Anyone read the Matthew Swift series by Kate Griffin? It's like a cross of changeling and spirit-mage. She's got a spinoff series for it called Magicals Anonymous where Matthew Swift makes appearances but isn't the narrator anymore.
It's really neat and eccentric and full of amazing things.
One of my favorite quote's from the books is:
"A message scratched into the glass window of the bus—
END OF THE LINE.
Not from one of the Whites; they knew that such a message could be a threat, as well as an instruction."
I've never finished "Stray Souls" the first in Magicals Anonymous (I really should, maybe I'll read that on the bus home today.) But I tore through the other books. (Maybe it's time to reread them, hmmm.)
I highly recommend them.

Dragon Ball Kai (experience of the original but with slightly less filler, thanks)
Hahhahaha 'slightly less filler' is one way of putting it.
DBZ was 291 episodes, Kai pared it down to 159. At roughly 18 mins an episode, they shaved off just shy of 40 hours from the series. ^_^
Can't tell if happy or complaining

I think Cowboy Bebop is still very watchable. The music is still incredible. The animation style is waning. The story and world are still solid.
I watched it from beginning to end twice from April 2014 to September 2014. I haven't watched this year but I might.
Might watch a run through of Samurai Champloo instead.
So @EmmahSue got me hooked into the 'Jaran' series by Kate Elliot. It does have a bit of romancy thread to it but it's incidental to the story not the focus of it, and there are no written out sex scenes. It's an incredible series. It's sci-fi meets historical fiction. It's about a girl in a spacefaring society that ends up stranded on an interdicted planet, and has to find a way to reach her brother without alerting the locals that she's from off world.
There are four books in the series but it seems like 2 & 3 are actually the same book but for some reason got split up into two books. So really there's more like 3 books.
Anyone else reading anything really interesting that is a series of books? Either long or short?
@WTFE Yeah, all I get when I go to groups is info about the book club and tutorialist.
I'm saddened by the lack of people in the 'readers' group. : (
Also I'm totally for like a 'crafts' group too. The crafts thread got so busy i lost track of things.
@WTFE Oh! I ... never noticed that before.
@Shebakoby What skin are you using? I've still got it when I open up a thread.
The "expand quote" button for the super hero thread is just a blank white box that is a little bit jarring. I'm not sure if that's by design of it's supposed to be the little arrows it normally is.

Cool? That's... great? There's like one guy complaining about 'new technology', but the other complaints seem more like "I took my car in to fix some bugs with its power steering and when it came out they'd also given me giant spinner rims with 'I LOVE ASS' in LEDs, and a paint job of Mohammud fucking a camel along both sides."
Learn to quote. : |
I'll give you that your other points have merit to them. This one, however, I will not. While, yes, there are a few people just saying: "Hey this change has caused me X problems". There are also several- not just one -people in the thread screeching "I didn't ask for this! This is the fucking worst thing in existence!" and it's a pretty shitty attitude.

Fuck this 25+ page history paper. Fuck it in the head. Also fuck myself for putting it off until I have, uh, 6 days to do it.
I'll write it for you, but my going rate is $225/hr.
lolno
@Arkandel Sure, pointing out issues and offering constructive criticism is good. Engaging in hysterics because "I didn't ask for this" is not.
@TNP well shit. hopefully glitch can figure out what is causing that.

But it's BETTER, guys. It's an IMPROVEMENT. Never mind that we don't like it and didn't ask for it and was poorly implemented. It's NEWER. And that makes it BETTER. At least that's what the fanboy apologists will keep telling us.
Seriously. Chill the fuck out.
The old forum did have some legitimate problems that needed to be fixed. Such as bad gateways showing up for no reason, lag time (I know that WTFE says it's slower, but it's a lot faster for me), and people suddenly being told "denied!" when trying to log in.
This unfortunately came with a layout change.
I swear to god have you people been living under a fucking rock? Facebook does this like twice a fucking year. Google does the same. Shit changes.
Do you also scream at children who have grown up? Cut their hair? Dyed it?
Or better yet do you yell at people who aren't using rotary phones anymore?
We get it. You don't like the way it looks now. That's sad for you, it fixes problems that needed to be fixed. It isn't "better" because it's "newer", it's better because it's fixed legit problems with the board.
Fuck this 25+ page history paper. Fuck it in the head. Also fuck myself for putting it off until I have, uh, 6 days to do it.
Smut & Romance haters Need Not Apply!
So whatcha read that is steamy? Anywhere from Slightly to I Can't Read This In Public (what if someone looked over my shoulder, oh god).
I really like pretty much anything by Nalini Singh, over @EmmahSue's objections! If I could just die and wake up in two weeks when Archangel's Engima comes out, I'd be very happy!
I also really liked Meljean Brook's iron seas series. I also liked her stand alone 'Frozen'. However, I'm not incredibly found of her 'Guardian' series.
A non-wod group. Or, idunno. 'development' group of some sort. A 'code' group seems pretty obvious for the discussion of in-development code and stuff-- stuff that non-coders probably wouldn't be interested in, but I don't know if sectionalizing code chat away from non-coders is a good idea? (What if they want to learn? Of course they could ask to be added to the group, I guess.)
Maybe a 'readers' group? To have a bunch of different threads about books -- rather than stuck to like (two? three?) we have now in the tastes less gamey section?
Of all my suggestions the 'readers' group makes me happiest.
Also I specifically didn't mention what staffer it was because I'm not out to shame/embarass anyone. They don't need their name/PC name brought up publicly for a little thing a lot of us have done at least once.
