Its actual effects are different from the Discipline, so I'm okay with it. It just means the Spina will need their own new name for, and maybe some small changes to, their powers, if we end up going with that.

Well, if the Bloodline is in the book itself, I expect it to be treated like the other bloodlines. Devotions to mimic portions of the Discipline, rather than a custom Discipline. So it might not be a bad thing in the long run in general.

Yeah, that's why I said "powers". It's likely they'll get a set of Devotions. I don't think we'll see any Bloodlines in Secrets of the Covenants, to be honest. But Courtoise seems to have become an Invictus Style Merit, so if they keep the Spina as a Bloodline, I suspect they'll change the name of the Gift/Devotions. (Or maybe they won't get a Devotion package, the Kerberos didn't. I would hate that. Some fucking consistency would be nice.)

If Eldritch ends up using custom Bloodlines, they will all have their own Gift + 4 Devotion set up, like Reno is currently moving towards. The Spina's Gift will just have to have a new name, is all.

I don't really read any smug condescension. I haven't read the webpage, mind you, because even if I were interested I have no time. But it's not like people were particularly nice about it in the first place.

Maybe everyone should chill a little on this thread instead of posting on it with claws out.

We'll have plenty of time to talk shop about BL over the course of the first six months. I plan on asking people's opinions and what not. I've also been working with @tragedyjones on rewriting the Bloodline disciplines/powers/whatever into Gift+Devotion sets, and we've got some really good ones. He's using them for Reno, so we'll see how they work out there, and it'll be a really good test.

I mean, my company is totally worth that airplane ticket, right? Right.

      @The-Tree-of-Woe I like them. 😄

But we're not doing Bloodlines for at least the first six months of the game, for my sanity.

When I had the money and the means, I bought the books that interested me. When I have the money and the means again, I will buy the books that interest me. That's basically it.

I still have all my old hardcover and softcover oWoD books. All of them. And Exalted, too. So many books I never even got to use...

School isn't always about learning things. Sometimes the lesson you learn is how to cough up exactly what the bossman wants so you can move on with your life. This professor wants some bullshit about xyz so I give him that and we both move on. These people have devoted years of their life to study of this topic. They think what they have to say is important. That's all.

I'd argue that that's a fair point when it comes to basic schooling, but once you're into college or courses that you want to take for your actual education and that are your choice, if someone is teaching you a lesson in obedience to a professor/boss, that better fucking be what you wanted to learn.

      IMO.

That can't be the result of just not having enough room in the book because they could have easily made an official web page with rules about how to convert their content to games like ours. A centralized reference like that would have been invaluable.

This would require them to familiarize themselves with our style of online roleplaying (we're not the only style out there) and given how many differences there are from group to group--and person to person--in playstyle and preferences in MUing, the effort on their part would probably not be worth it.

@Bennie, there's a huge difference between "we teleconference and send in our work" and "we're freelancers". Freelancers don't have the same responsibilities a full-time employee has, nor the paycheck of one. Freelancers are the ones that leave you hanging when you need their art by the due date and you end up having to find someone else on the fly.

It also doesn't help that on top of basically making up 90% of their staff out of freelancers, they have too many projects going at the same time, which slows all the projects down.

I don't care if it's the norm; it's a bad way to do business.

Yeah, they aren't really following any sort of best practices when it comes to how they do things. They seem to have chosen to it the cheapest and most barebones way possible (Kickstarter, with a core of maybe three full-time staff and everyone else is a freelancer).

Yeah. The idea behind consent is usually to foster a sense of community that jointly drives that sort of jackass out. It doesn't always (usually) work all the way, but.

What I really don't get is why they're still going with dice when it's Consent. Either go full consent or don't, IMO.

    • RE: New Prospect MUSH

I don't really like the abolishment of RP Staff as a concept (which should come as no surprise given how much I am pushing for Staff Involvement being a Thing in my own game), but I have played Consent games (mostly Comic book games) to a high degree of enjoyment, so consent itself isn't anathema to me at all.

I do like the way you structure learning stuff. At least, the basic "no XP, just learning times" approach.

I would probably limit it to "slots" and have certain stats occupy more slots than others. So maybe taking an Attribute from 3-4 occupies 3 slots (old rating, since this is oWoD Revised) for a time span calculated on 4 (the oWoD Revised multiplier for Attributes). If the "default time span" is "1 week", it would take 3 weeks.

Using this system means that people have to strategize what to raise, when to raise it, etc. It's actually pretty cool.

As an aside: your presentation regarding your views on RP Staff is pretty condescending. "RP Staff Are Bad"? Really? We get it, you don't like it, but you come off super bitter and resentful. Maybe consider revising the way you present your core reasoning to something positive, instead of "Boo on RP Staff! Shunnnn!"

@Arkandel, I like to use places and then high-light the "At your table," portion so I don't miss people doing that. Also, my client high-lights my character's name, too. But yeah, long poses in huge scenes are nngh.
