Not make passive-aggressive changes/policies to discourage it without having the courage to just...say 'Hey, stop that.'

Sometimes the changes in policy come because when you have the courage to tell a person "Hey, stop that," that person doesn't give a flying fuck and continues on because they think their fun trumps other people's fun. It's never black-and-white, this-or-that; mutual exclusivity is not a thing, in this context; this is not apples-and-oranges...

I ran out of suitable, or even semi-suitable, metaphors. But I would hope the point is clear.

    • RE: Real People You Can't Play

I think one of the limitations of Mage in the MU world is that aside from Arcana which you might not possess, a few dots in Mind and Life can literally make mortals and others who have niche expertise in Skills that you might not have obsolete, thereby making the IC reasons to interact with them smaller.

If my mage has Mind 3, he can get up to his Gnosis in any Skill and/or Mental/Social Attribute. So he buffs his Intelligence and his Computers, and suddenly, depending on his Gnosis and original scores, could potentially have Int 5, Computers 5. A little Fate to give it some dice permutations, and you're well on your way to making any mortal whose RP is heavily supplemented by being able to supply for a demand obsolete.

Granted, Demon does this to almost a ridiculous extent with social stuff, too. Christ.

But yeah, Mind is a breaker, all right.

@surreality, I like to call that "superlativitis".

The only way I'd do it is if I got to design a new structure for the powers (not completely new, but...). I think it'd be great as an exercise in game design.

I posit there are no minor templates, simply human and inhuman ones. Ghouls, Wolf-Blooded, and Stigmatics are still fundamentally human, while werewolves, vampires, and demons are fundamentally not.

I can be wise for one thing and an obstinate dick for another. If the two were mutually exclusive you would routinely explode/implode from the sheer paradox of your existence, you wise, obstinate asshole. 😄

When people wanted me to watch Lost, I didn't.

Count yourself lucky. I stopped watching after two seasons, and even though I feel like I dodged a bullet, I wish I hadn't given in even that much. Fuck Lost.

Lucky my ass. WISE, my friend. I was WISE.

I'm looking to play a Demon Werewolf that gets turned into a vampire that then gets kidnapped into Arcadia. While there he awakens and then escapes where he joins the Vigil.

I think I might try to toss a minor template in there and perhaps finish with Sin-Eater.

I'm just going to nuke you from orbit. I won't even bother with a scene. Tthe God-Machine will just telenuke you.

I feel like most of the maneuvers could just be tacked on as alternative choices for the Fighting Styles we already have from the God-Machine Chronicles and that would be a better way of doing it.

Werewolves also have a Facet that gives them one of the active effects of Vigor (add Purity as a Weapon Bonus to your attack).

A combat Gangrel (i.e. who bought Celerity and Vigor) with Claws of the Unholy and a high Coil of the Wyrm is fucking terrifying.

It's up to staff to draw the line regarding what's absolutely necessay to play in a sphere (and indeed, a game) and what's just bonus. I would consider those things you mentioned the latter. If someone within the sphere tries to apply those things as a necessary quality to have fun, it's up to staff to say "wow, stop, no." If staff is the one applying those overqualifying limits, then that sphere might not be for you.

    • RE: What's That Game's About?

For the most part: no. Because we play in a world of fiction and if you watch television, which is our basis for what constitutes "acceptable fiction" currently (as a whole, some shows are obviously better than others) even the best shows get tons of shit just plain wrong.

      For the most part.

I don't mind someone with Medicine 4 who isn't a medical doctor. Maybe they're just incredibly talented and self-taught. It helps if their Intelligence is high, or have the Eidetic Memory Merit, etc. These things work in concert.

People are going to make mistakes and that's just how the gaming world works. If, to run a scene wherein a lawyer is present, I have to know real law and court procedures, I'm never gonna run that shit. But we clearly don't put that sort of pressure on the writers of fiction out in TVland or Hollywood, so I'm okay with lee-way.

Just don't be ridiculous. Don't be a biologist and say "insects aren't animals, they're insects". Don't be a hacker and try to hack an isolated network (without some power that explicitly allows it). Don't get caught fucking a judge on camera and then pretend to actually have that judge preside over any case you're trying.

      Just, you know, be reasonable.
