Spider-Man was invented by Steve Ditko as an enemy of The Fly, an old superhero back when the formula wasn't pervasive. The Fly was a geek fighting for world peace, and Spider Spry was an evil heel wrestler type fighting him. The Fly took off on a fantasy fan spectrum, kind of like you see with the more passive readers that read stuff like Tolkien or Rowling, not the hardcore fans. But Spider-Man takes Spider Spry, the nerd that gets jacked, and gives him an ethical trap: if this character appeals to you, Peter Parker, you put on the suit and get beaten up by all these villains that outgun you.

Case in point: In Kevin Smith's Mallrats, Stan Lee comes out of the closet as having written himself into Dr. Doom.

I've tried making it for myself and it was super 'meh' and the name is really close to placenta so it falls solidly into 'NOPE' territory.

Re: Mutants in Space -- there's an X-Men / Star Trek: TNG crossover novel (yes, yes there is) in which not only is there a planet of aliens (well, people on their planet, the others are the aliens) that are developing like mutants do on Marvel-Earth, but also you get to see the X-Men and crew of the Enterprise freak out about how similar Picard and Xavier are (before the movies ever cast Stewart as Xavier), AND you get to see Jean Grey freak the fuck RIGHT out about how powerful Deanna Troy is, because she can empathically sense people ON OTHER STARSHIPS, WHICH ARE PROBABLY SITTING ABOUT HALF A PLANET AWAY IN SPACE.

Yeah.

It's pretty awesome.

That's how your argument came across to me, at least, in the wording used. That statted systems enable people to be assholes.

That's because you were arguing that consent games enable people to be assholes, so I provided examples of the benefits of consent vs. the pitfalls of statted systems.

But I have maintained, throughout the entire thread, in pretty much every post I have made, that it is shitty people at the core of the problems and not the context.

Consent games staffed and played by decent people? Decent game.
Consent games staffed and played by shitty people? Shitty game.
Statted system staffed and played by decent people? Decent game.
Statted system staffed and played by shitty people? Shitty game.

Sure, there are other things to take into account (is the theme interesting, are the rules balanced, does everyone have stuff to do, etc.,) but in this conversation about what people can and can't abuse, it's shitty people that are at fault.
