I really enjoyed the soundtrack; its flavor of bittersweet nostalgia just worked for me.

I enjoyed the songs, but I'm very aware the people singing them were cast for things other than their ability to sing awesomely. Gosling in particular. Emma Stone was fine.

Gods yes. Russell Crowe RUINED Les Mis.

I went to see Les Mis with a girl and basically whenever Russel Crowe was on screen singing we'd just make out. To be fair, it wasn't just when Russel Crowe was on screen singing.

... what was Les Mis about again?

@Ganymede didn't name me and my life is over.

But it's okay because I think we've literally only RPed together maybe three times in, uh, thrice as many years.

Character death by bad die roll. I've never seen that happen.

I remember on Eldritch when @Coin rolled some ridiculous amount of successes on a roll and killed a PC. She wasn't upset by it, it was just a bit impressive - a classic case of ST-dice. It doesn't always catch headlines because someone wants drama, it can be something like... you just rolled 12 successes in 9 dice, and you just want to tell people. 🙂

It was, IIRC, two 9d10 rolls, 10 successes on the first, 6 on the second, for 16 Lethal. She had 8 Health Levels, so that rolled over to 8 Aggravated, filling all her Health Boxes in Aggro and instantly killing her.

I already introduced you to Planetary in the past. You might want to read other stuf by Warren Ellis, since you did like it.

As such, I would like to posit you might like Global Frequency and, of course, something I have suggested you read many times and I am unsure if you actually, you know, listened: Transmetropolitan.

Seriously, just read Transmet, dude. You will love it.

      @RDC

No, they understood what MUing was - Steve Jackson Games hosted/ran PyramidMOO back in the day, predating the US edition of In Nomine.

They've just always been very touchy about computer licensing of their products, ever since the deal to license GURPS for Fallout fell apart and they missed out on getting their name on one of the most beloved CRPG franchises ever made.

So basically you're saying they're super bitter.

Also, nice to see you around again, CG.

For example, in the Marvel universe, mutants suffer a lot of persecution (let's ignore the fact that Average Joe and Jane seem to have a special radar and are always able to tell when someone is a mutant, and thus worthy of persectuion, and when they aren't, and thus worthy of trust because superheroes). Meanwhile, in DC, most metahumans (many of which are essentially 'DC's mutants' since it's basically just 'born with these powers randomly') are not.

The Kingdom Come series portrays an interesting setting where metahumans are, actually, sort of persecuted. By other metahumans. I'm a huge fan of it.

Yeah, well, Kingdom Come is Mark Waid and... well... I don't idolize anyone, but that dude is fucking great. I love KC.

I figure that metahumans are treated with suspicion and wariness, regardless. People probably don't fuck with them because Superman appeared, and everyone was, like, wtf how do u persecute that dood???

Smear campaigns. Honestly, though, he's god-level superpowered white dude.

I think the only comic book superhero that isn'tl literally a cosmic god with more privilege is Superman in the Elseworlds story Speeding Bullets where he's a god-level superpowered white dude adopted by rich old moneyed white people.

Yeah, his parents died. Super sad.

(Keep in mind I feel Speeding Bullets is one of the best Elseworlds, along with Kingdom Come, but daaaaaaaaaaamn.)

Universe Unlimited had the plus of having mixed the two universes very well. I mean, some things were ignored and caused some continuity/logical problems, but I did sit in there and fix some of those, at one point, at least to most people's satisfaction.

I think if you make a mixed game you have to accept two things: 1) you'll disappoint some people with any changes you make to fill in gaps or explain discrepancies; and 2) you'll have to shift the ambience and feel of both, if they're very different, until they can cohabitate.

So you pick one. Since Marvel's is a much more integral and important part of a lot of characters, I usually favor using that.

Other things are just fun to mix and match and see what you can do!

Namor does not rule Atlantis. He rules Lemuria! His people are an off-shoot of Atlanteans that left Atlantis centuries ago. They have a wary truce with Aquaman and Atlantis.

The Kree are descended from ancient Kryptonian explorers. It explains their higher physical powers, probably diluted (maybe they once lived with a yellow sun, but it's been millennia since then). (And hey, their naming conventions are very similar!)

The Nova Corps was an attempt by the Guardians of the Universe to create a new intergalactic police force when [x thing with the Lanterns] happened, but they ended up separating from the Guardians and now operate on a different scale than the lanterns (or whatever).

Quicksilver's mutant power allows him access to the Speed Force. (So many people hate this idea, and I don't know why, or care.)

The Celestials are responsible for [name any number of weird fucking things in the DC Universe, including even the Anti-Monitor].

Galactus and Mogo are totes frenemies and Ego constantly feels left out.

I'm with @Tat. If you're gonna do it, do it all the way.

I have zero coding/programing/whatever experience/knowledge, or I would offer help. But a dedicated app that function as its own browser and client would be amazing.

I mean, it's also by far the most work intensive and what not, but it's also, I think the next logical stage for our hobby. I know we've been howling about how MUs are dying for like a decade in a half now, but at some point we need to admit that at some point, it will die.

Also, @faraday, you might want to look at and talk to the people of Wanton Wicked whom I believe have their own, custom-coded chat and charsheet interface, among other things.

@coin You'd be surprised. The last game I played heavily was touted as a grimdark world. Yet my character cussed like a sailor, would come up with ideas like, "That guy over there looks like an easy mark, let's rob him." and other players would be like "No! W-why, why would you do that? I mean we're thugs, but....we don't do that."

... what game was this? lol.

@Coin said in Roleplaying writing styles:

Trying to preemptively think of all possible avenues a plot can take is an exercise in futility - if your players are worth a damn they'll come up with things you haven't thought of. That's basically the point of collaborative storytelling, else you might as well be writing fanfic. 🙂

Why fanfic and not... just... writing a story?

Because I was trying to be derogatory about it!

This becomes super fucking annoyingly difficult when people are so worried about supposed "conflict of interest" and other bullshit and set up rules that don't let you have your own character in scenes you run, or come up with super defined ways an NPC can be used, limiting the stories you can tell and otherwise making what you say should be a blurry line into something very definitive.

This is a symptom of lack of trust. Sometimes it's by staff toward the players ("no, I can't possibly release my precious NPCs to those Storytellers who might actually do something with them while I'm busy drowning in soul-crushing workload"), sometimes it's the attitude of players toward their peers ("you're going to use this to advance your nefarious agenda and get Sheriff for yourself, you plot-running asshole"), and I've even seen it be self-inflicted as well ("I've a crime alt, there are criminals in this plot, this is a conflict! sorry guys, I have to step out... it's for the common good").

I am not saying there aren't things coordination will make better - thematic consistency is a big one for example. But a little bit of handwaving can still allow for a lot of plot to be thrown at the starving masses, if they just allow themselves to be entertained.

This is why when I was on Eldritch I basically just didn't care? Like, honestly, if people thought my having a werewolf and running werewolf stuff was a problem that was just not the game for them.

I mean it turned out not to be the game for anyone, but hey. >.> Hahah.
