I'll be honest, I have really mixed feelings about the current system involving paying for investigation efforts with Luck Points. They're a limited pool for things you should be able to quite reasonably do, and having utilized the mechanic when prompted, my result didn't seem like it merited the effort to spend it - which was basically "all of your research comes up with nothing, but you did notice someone else looking into it". That was excellent for giving me a hook into RP with other people, but I just feel like the notion of something with such a nebulous pay-off should not require use of a resource pool that can diminish.

I'm also willing to have it explained to me more thoroughly. I'm not looking to attack anybody, I'm just here to have a good time.

      @auspice said in Good TV:

I'm kinda convinced the Peacock is NPH at this point. I mean, it probably ISN'T but I want it to be.

Either NPH or Donny Osmond. Pretty sure now the Unicorn is Tori Spelling, and I'm still betting on Gladys Knight for the Bee. (She's been called the Empress of Soul, and she has four back up dudes in her clue package a la the Pips)

Well, again it was also about her thoughts on how a man becomes gay that was particularly WTF, Anne.

      WTF, Anne.

      TELGAR! TELGAR!

      Sorry, had to.

As for skeeve, yeah well, there's plenty of that to go around for the Pern setting, especially if you have no plans to apply Death of the Author. The literary trope, not the fact that Anne has actually passed. We all know what I'm talking about, right? Do I have to even say it?

    • RE: MU Things I Love

I recently came across a quote from a very popular movie that shook me hard and reminded me very much of one of my current characters. Finding it delighted me so much that it gave my drive to play even more of an extra kick:

As your leader, I encourage you from time to time, and always in a respectful manner, to question my logic. If you're unconvinced that a particular plan of action I've decided is the wisest, tell me so, but allow me to convince you and I promise you right here and now, no subject will ever be taboo. Except, of course, the subject that was just under discussion. The price you pay for bringing up either my Chinese or American heritage as a negative is... I collect your fucking head. Just like this fucker here. Now, if any of you sons of bitches got anything else to say, now's the fucking time!

The character is neither Chinese nor American, but she has appropriate alternative status to make the quote work.

@arkandel That's exactly the kind of intellectual quandary I would enjoy discussing with other people, however the dude who was going on about who invented electricity (and credited Thomas Jefferson, LOL) would probably be like

      mind blown

@auspice I am convinced the Bee is Gladys Knight. I am less certain of the Peacock, but my bet is David Hasselhoff.

I'm curious about how Ken Jeong as an MD feels about being seated next to one of the most notorious anti-vaxxers in America. I imagine he secretly wants to slap Jenny McCarthy.

I love that he is/was a teen dad. We get teen mom concepts all the time, but when do you see teen dad concepts?

      NOW WE DO.

Hey dumbass, you can't "invent" existing natural forces. You can, however, discover them.

So sorry, but nobody "invented" electricity.

      Idiot.

@tat Thank you! She won't be a ranger per se, but she apparently can work for the Ranger Service as a wildlife vet: https://www.nps.gov/nature/careers-kevin.htm

(he's a wildlife vet. I'm not just randomly linking to some dude named Kevin.)

So I've revised my concept somewhat; I'm going to do the vet, but she'll be working for the National Park to help with the wildlife. Which doesn't mean people can't come to her for their birdies and doggos and kitties (or goats or horses etc.). She is also has more than a passing interest in cryptozoology so you know, anyone interested in going on adventures to observe or join expeditions to explore for the purpose of learning about/discovering new magical creatures, she's your huckleberry.

Edited to Add: Yes, I know vets generally specialize, but for the purposes of RP hooks I'm snapping my reality suspenders and allotting her a more broad scope of practice.

I think I may pass on my baker with a foodie mage concept already in place. (Not a big deal, there are so many ideas floating around in my brain)

I'm rolling around the notion of a vet who helps people's familiars; she has a local practice but maybe also does volunteer work with wildlife.

My concern with this concept is that I imagine lots of people can heal the physical bodies that house their familiar spirits, so do they really need a vet?

I do love me a magical food motif. Maybe a baker. With a cupcake shop.

Except I also want to do cool magical things that aren't twee cupcakes.
