RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
The letter has been written.
The money order has been purchased. Turns out I don't have to pay for additional shipping, the fee includes shipping back to me.
All I need is the envelope big enough to hold 8"x10" and maybe 3/4" thick worth of paper.I need to make a couple of labels, get my hands on appropriate envelopes, and get it in the mail.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
I am massively tired of having to explain to people what Zionism actually is as opposed to what people think it is, and I'm tired of having to defend it, especially when there are a lot of points where I personally agree with what some opponents are proposing.
I'm also tired of having to struggle with supporting Congressional leadership that I believe is doing great things for this country but shitting ignorance all over the other country near and dear to my heart...and then being called a kapo and a traitor for deciding that their domestic efforts weigh more importantly for me.
Basically, I'm a Tired Jew.

@Ganymede Much love, thank you. The logistics are mainly the issue that is most challenging.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@Alamias that is extremely kind of you, thank you! I should be fine, where money is concerned. My stress is mainly about the logistics. I have to send them prepaid packaging and it was implied that there's a lot of paperwork and I'm trying to figure out the best way to do it.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
Okay, so.
In 1983, I was a witness to a really traumatic event. Basically there was a shooting inside my house while I was on the porch. I was 7. My mother stood trial for "discharging a firearm with intent to kill" and was found innocent on the grounds of self-defense. In later years, I would find out that my stepfather had threatened to kill me, and for a long time he was the featured boogyman of my nightmares and PTSD flashbacks - I would become convinced that he was stalking me through the halls of my highschool even though I logically knew there was no way that this was possible.
There's a huge gap of time interspersed between memories associated with the event of the incident and the trial. At the time I was not allowed to take the stand, probably because I was a child. But I think there's a lot to that experience that I don't know which may help me process it better, even after all of these years.
So I contacted the Pontotoc County Courthouse in Ada, OK and asked if I could have the casefiles from the criminal court case. I have to send a $20 cashier's check and self-addressed packaging to them, and I have to figure out a way to do that without breaking my budget. There is, apparently, a very thick file available to me and once it's in my hands I'm hoping I will understand the incident and my mother's experience during that time a lot better.

RE: Welcome to the Euphoria!
What exactly does "Hospitality Staff" do?
How are the Arts valued in this shared culture? Are they valued? Are they considered secondary/hobbies, or valid career pursuits?

RE: What Types of Games Would People Like To See?
Fantasy Greco-Roman, a la Hercules and Xena.
Victorian Changeling.
Or any game with a period setting, really.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies?

RE: Good or New Movies Review
@Wizz I enjoyed The Old Guard but kept wanting to scream, "Now cut off his head!" and yelling at them to get to holy ground.

RE: Elfquest
@bear_necessities said in Elfquest:
@Cupcake what did Marian Zimmer Bradley do?! The Arthurian saga was my favorite thing in the whole world.
Allegedly molested her own kids, in addition to aiding and abetting her husband's pedophilia.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marion_Zimmer_Bradley#Child_sex_abuse_allegations
And honestly, if you read some passages of Mists of Avalon now with context, it will make you cringe and want a shower. Not surprisingly, it really fucked up her daughter in particular, who is now a card carrying, actively campaigning homophobe.

RE: RL Anger
@mietze Can your primary reroute you to a different specialist?

RE: Elfquest
@hedgehog Mostly Richard. Colleen Duran claims that when she was younger - like, a teenager, he took her to a con and got a room with only one bed. Wendy's got some issues as well about homophobia and victim blaming in the comics industry toward women who are sexually harassed.
I have a lot less guilt enjoying Elfquest, but if I will never read Marian Zimmer Bradley again. Like, I guage the merit of "death of the author" from 0 to MZB.

RE: Elfquest
I enjoyed Two Moons when I was on it, and re-read some of the original comics within the past year. But I had to Death of the Author it really hard on account of some of the allegations against the Pinis.

RE: Good TV
I am late to the part for the Tales From Arcadia collections of animated series, but I sure did love 3Below. Now I'm watching Trollhunters, which I know is going backwards, and I'm super looking forward to Wizards, the third and final installment.

RE: Avatar / Korra game considerations
Yeah, the actual bending styles are pretty obviously based on different stances of kung fu/martial arts. Being able to study those even without the bending would make sense.
I'm going to NERD ALERT myself.
Air is Ba Gua
Water is Tai chi
Earth is generally Hop Gar, with Toph's particular unique style actually being Mantis
Fire is Northern Shaolin. -
RE: Avatar / Korra game considerations
Poking around a bit, I've come to the conclusion that Republic City's major export is industry in general and transportation in particular; especially automobiles. There are no less than three major companies with headquarters there that produce automobiles:
Future Industries - primarily automobiles, but also with significant R&D for machines of war. (I have reason to believe Future Industries will have the means to become an independent company once more)
Stark - I mean, Varrick Global Industries - less focus on automobiles, more on war machines, weaponry, and general tech advancement.
Cabbage Corporation - Cheap automobiles.
We also see examples of factory jobs being an easy job to get in Korra.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

RE: Avatar / Korra game considerations
I am generally in favor of a post Korra timeline. Either after her death, which means the new Avatar hasn't been found or has only recently been recognized and thus still in training, or during her life, but she's on an extended tour of the spirit world.
I think there are far too many opportunities post-Korra - post-Aang, even - that are enticing and can draw RP. Pre-Aang, female waterbenders are limited to learning healing, and the Fire Nation is default the enemy, and there are no air nomads. Technology is less a thing, robbing non-benders of a potential hook.
Also, post-Korra - how did we forget pro-bending?! If folks wanted to form a Bending team and do RP around that, it would be incredibly fun. Now add adventures in the now easily accessible spirit world...

RE: Avatar / Korra game considerations
Even though I would absolutely without a doubt play a bender, I do want to point out some of the cool stuff non-benders can do:
Be soldiers/officers in the Army of the Republic.
Be tech geniuses.
Use pressure point fighting.
Be Kiyoshi warriors.
Be members of the White Lotus. -
RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
Look, I can point out an abuse of power that someone I don't happen to be sunshine-and-rainbows with and it doesn't have to be personal.
Expressing that I genuinely hope they've made a point of learning from their own mistakes as well as acknowledging the flaws in the environment around them is not equivalent to me running around shrieking about an incident that happened literally decades ago and airing dirty laundry.
