Blood Drive....
Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup.
I've never seen this movie. This clip makes me kick myself for not seeing this movie. I need to see this movie ASAP.

Probably because The Matrix has the whole jesus complex thing, and 'The One' ruins the idea of the PC's being exceptional.
Not that there wasn't other exceptional characters, it's just all overshadowed by 'The One'.
True. The whole Neo = "The One" = Jesus (especially the ending scenes of that third movie, wow -_-), but at the same time, I think about a few things The Architect (or as I like to call him, Evil KFC Colonel) :
"The function of the One is now to return to the source, allowing a temporary dissemination of the code you carry, reinserting the prime program. After which you will be required to select from the matrix 23 individuals, 16 female, 7 male, to rebuild Zion. Failure to comply with this process will result in a cataclysmic system crash killing everyone connected to the matrix, which coupled with the extermination of Zion will ultimately result in the extinction of the entire human race...rest assured, this will be the sixth time we have destroyed it, and we have become exceedingly efficient at it. "
So as far as a premise for a MU* setting: Zion (or whatever new city you'd like to call it in your worldbuilding). Either the 7th generation, 8th, 26th -- time doesn't matter. Because in the end, even though Neo stopped the destruction of Zion in Matrix: Revolution--how long does one think the peace between the humans and the machines will last? You could set it so far into the future beyond the movies, that the movies could be considered nothing more than a legend. A tale told around the heated rocks on the underground cities to give people a sense of peace? Hope? A reason to keep living?
Maybe after the revolution of Zion, several other cities came to existence. Time moved, cities grew. Maybe grew too much. Some people thought they wanted to be free, but freedom came with a price: a difficulty finding one's place in this new world outside of the Matrix. Resources were already scarce, to begin with. People will survive at any cost (ex. Cypher wanted to go back in).
I guess what I'm getting at in my ramblings is that you can take an alright canon and work from there to create a world for possible MU*. Or maybe I'm just an optimist.

This is some old school shit, man. I remember someone trying that on me on Tartarus.
The only thing I [vaugely] remember from Tartarus (if we're talking the same game) was some dude named Puck(?) trying to wipe out an entire nightclub of vampires by using a Prime spell to "summon the sun." He instead rolled some 20 points of paradox. My friend and I laughed, as it was the first time I ever heard/saw a staffer come into the scene and start off with "who just tried to break the game?"
...I know this was a tangent from the current conversation. Carry on!
@Packrat: Why are we not making this a reality??
@Packrat said in Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?:
I am still not sure how they could work for a MUSH though. I mean there is that whole class/caste system but on the whole, a Gold is going to be utterly and overwhelmingly amazing at stuff compared to anyone who is not a Gold as well as having the ultimate in social privilege.
Yeah, I've thought about that too. In the sense that you always have a large group of players that always wanna be the "special ones" but not enough people wanna play the "others." In a way (and someone may throw monkey poop at me for mixing things a bit), but Red Rising game could use the same kiiiiiinda system as Exalted--but maybe the focus is on Gold and Gold politics on one of the planets. Maybe award additional XP, bonuses, hugs, handies in the back alley (joking on the last part) for those wanting to play other colors: such as Obsidians and The Stained. Oooooooor....you could create a game based on the ending of the last novel in the trilogy, and the Golds on the outer rim.
I know that he's working on a 4th book that's meant to take place several years after Morning Star. Could use that or an "alternative version" of post Morning Star. Again, just thoughts
@Ashen-Shugar said in Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?:
Always wanted to start a mush based on H. G. Wells Time Machine.
With realities and zones handling each different 'timezone' and having the 'past' effect the future, the possibilities would be fun.
Same with a Doctor Who mush.
Maybe one based on TRON with some fun virtual reality.
Then of course, Guardians of the Galaxy.
And to throw one out there that will make people lynch me and beat their heads to remove the imagery:
Smurfs Vs My Little Pony -- The apocolypse death battle.
@Ashen-Shugar: I love the idea of doing a TRON game. You really have a virtual (haha) open world of zones/sectors. Pick a timeframe in which the game is taking place:
Sorry....as you can tell I love the idea. It was a movie I grew up with as a kid, and also enjoyed both Tron: Legacy and Tron: Uprising as an adult.
@Lithium With your voracious need for a Pirate game would it be closer to:
Just curious which flavor your drug is
I like the idea of a MU* Craigslist (sans....whatever one finds inappropriate). My knowledge/talents of MU* building is just ideas and talking out logistics. If people need an ideasman, I'm happy to provide
I don't remember if this was ever mentioned, but here are my hefty $0.02 of what I think would be a good setting for a MU* (or as I like to call it my dream game settings)
The Magicians: I think that Breakbills, Breakbills South, Neitherlands, and Fillory could all make for good landscapes, but you could also just create a few other realms if you want to deviate a bit from the canon material (by way of one of gazillion fountains in the Neitherlands).
Red Rising: If you haven't read the books, I would strongly recommend them. Awesome! It has an entire class/caste system (Society of Colors). It's one of those that would also be fun for someone looking for a sci-fi Lords and Ladies type game/concept
Poltergeist: The Legacy (or Friday the 13th: The Series or Warehouse 13): You all play mortals or mortal+ (to use the WoD "race") traveling, investigating, protecting the world from powerful/dangerous objects.
The Old Kingdom/Abhorsen: Two different worlds divided by one wall. A world of plain mortal men and women, and a world of magic (free-magic and charter-magic). It has a developed enough world and timeline that one could squeeze an original game setting somewhere within.
There are others I'm sure I have floating in my head, but here are some that wanted to be noted in the conversation.

This is sort of what we might be looking at for another game set in Vegas.
I made a mistake about where I saw this unique court system. It was on RPG.Net (via Courts of Chance)
@Cobaltasaurus: +1! I really have liked the idea of seeing more non-traditional court development. There's a thread on the OnyxPath forums(?) that someone outlined courts for a game that took place in Las Vegas. Each one was based on the card suits (Diamonds, Hearts, Spades, Clubs) that were pretty also pretty interesting to read about. As someone that enjoys Changeling, I'm excited to see more of this!
@Tux I had my suspicions that VASpider = Gisa. This, of course, was not before made aware of VASpider playing on the game--but even then had a feeling. But In any case, as long as they don't play a position of IC authority, or staff things miiiiiigt be fine. Time will tell...¯_(ツ)_/¯
@Derp Same here! I play Aaron over there. My hours are usually daytime/CT hours.
@skew Do you know how this impacts the wiki site? Like how much might be lost between pages created and that sort of thing? I'm not a code person. Just trying to brace myself if the worse case scenarios is recreating one or several wiki pages :S

Brutal XP costs? It's not much different from NWoD 1e. OWoD XP Costs are actually cheaper than NWoD 1e. I assume you're talking about NWoD 2e where they're flat costs (but really, multiplied by 5 'cause of beats).
Yeah. Maybe I shouldn't have overexaggerated the difference in XP systems. I just liked the conversion of doing a Flat Costs per dot. Plus the ability to purchase more Merits dots beyond the 7 that you started off with (unless this was changed in 20th, as I'm unable to recall at this moment)
@Seamus said in Classic World of Darkness:
I'm curious is there any interest in the 20th Ed oWoD mush?
I am totally interested in this. Just got 20th Ed. CtD .pdf. Buuuuuut...the only thing that might keep me from this is that I don't wanna go back to the brutal XP costs from oWoD games versus nWoD. -_-
@Admiral
WOW! Thank you for this. Really.
I watched this entire season with painful motivation. Every three episodes, I was like "Fuuuuuuck...what the fuuuuuuck..." The most joy I got out of Iron Fist was when Davros looks at Danny and says "you're the worst Iron Fist, ever!" He really spoke aloud what I'd been saying in my mind. It felt like a really shitty version of the Count of Monte Cristo.
But after reading this, I see what my problem was: I'd been watching it with a typical superhero frame in my mind. Where he knows who he is, what his role is in life, and kicking ass one iron fist to the gut at a time. But that's not who Luke Cage is; that's not who Jessica Jones was either; and Matt Murdock has some pretty grey morals by playing lawyer by day, blind-vigilante by night. So--why should I've assumed that Danny Rand was going to be any better than these three fuck-ups forced into being the budding defenders they will become?
He's a damaged young adult. He almost DIED in a plane crash, his parents are dead, and he comes home thinking that the world he knew as a child would accept him even as an adult [which it does not]. Then he has to deal with this quasi-familiar world around him that is always looking to screw him over or deceived or manipulate him for little more than it can. Danny's too trusting, and we see the results of his too trusting nature mixed with PTSD.
So TL;DR - thank you @Admiral again for giving me another lens to see this show through. I may actually watch it again and see if it changes my initial thoughts and feelings about this show.
