    • RE: RL Anger

@arkandel They should have known better than to go there. Hipsters living in a protected bubble assumed that just by smiling and waving the world would accept them.

I'm not a racist, but I don't go into a black street gang's territory at night. Because as a white guy, I'm an outsider. I'm someone they typically hate.

I can do outreach. I can give to charity. But I can't go into -terrorist infested- areas and not expect something bad to happen to me.

By trying to be 'part of the solution' and 'sharing stories of love' they became a giant fucking headline that the alt-right will use to say 'See? We were right!'

Motherfuckers is right. Fuck those hipster assholes for making the entire region look bad.

@ominous This isn't the Grunge era. We don't have to be angsty anymore. There's more colors than black and more emotions than 'My parents don't understand me.'

Why can't we remove the stupid humanity bullshit and let people RP what they want to RP? My vampire can be a good person or a monster but I shouldn't be railroaded towards certain moralities.

And I say this as someone who doesn't play total murderous monsters. I haven't since I was a teenage edgelord. They're bogging a game about -being a fucking undead monster with super powers- down into something tedious.

I'm gonna homebrew some Fuckpire rules. That'll fix the 5e problem.

@Thenomain The game is not made for MUSHing. They very clearly aimed it towards tabletop gameplay with zero considerations to other forms.

They might come out with LARP rules soon, though. I'd wager on it.

@auspice I gave away a desk a few months ago. I had no idea you needed one. Sorry.

I lived in Chicago, but not long enough to know anything about it aside from the fact that the entire language spoken there consists of saying 'Da Bears!' in different inflections.

@thenomain It's not shocking. And my reaction is probably unreasonable. I just wish we didn't have a damn sanity meter based on something as arbitrary as 'Joe Bob Mortal keeps me sane! He's my bae!'

So it's basically The Sims' social meter.

@bobotron People are alien as well. No two people think alike or view the world the same way. Abortion. Is it murder? Is murder even wrong? What about stealing? Not only does every human have their own views but so does every group. Every culture. Every society. Applying a one size fits all view to morality in a game system like WoD is ham handed at best, offensive at worst.

And what about people with social issues? What about Autism? Or more seriously, what about people who literally can't connect with other humans due to how they were born? Are they monsters?

That's what bothers me about morality systems.

@bobotron my reaction is knee jerk. That said... Touchstones are just awful. The idea of needing external forces to maintain sanity or morality does not mesh well with me. A hermit with no human contact would become a monster. That is almost as dumb as 'humanity' which implied that soldiers were heartless monsters for killing. There is no one size fits all for sanity or morality. Why do we need a game system for it? Let me play my character and my mental state how I choose. I will play Cthulu if I want to deal with sanity.

I will hand it to the writers. They took all the negativity I had for nWoD vampire and gave me a new respect for it because this crap is just... No. Touchstones and feelyweelies and a system based around how hangry you are does not do it for me. I appreciate the theme stuff. Fuck yeah. Give us a theme again. But the gameplay itself is the problem. The exact opposite of nwod which had garbage theme and enjoyable gameplay.

@auspice We literally have a goth/industrial placed called Elysium.

But Austin would not be a great place for a WoD game. There is no real darkness here.

Edit: I voted for no Mage/Demon/Beast. I can stomach a game with Mage or Beast but I am not touching a Matrix: The Matrixing game with a ten foot pole. Demon: The Fallen was my favorite in oWoD but this nDemon does not appeal to me whatsoever. I don't even want to play on a game where it exists as canon.

Not gonna lie. The title 'The CHurn' made me expect an Amish-themed game.

Expanse is a much cooler idea though.

@auspice It's probable that the truck is stolen anyways. Stolen vehicles often get dropped off in apartment complexes.

    • RE: Open Sheets?

@magee101 I'd argue that what separates a good player from a bad one is solely their ability to create fun for those they interact with.

However, back on the topic of open sheets... why do you need to see my sheet? What do you gain from knowing so much that your character doesn't? Do you like to read wikipedia entries about a movie's plot before you go see it to prime yourself? Do you enjoy it when staffers who run scenes tell you all the backstory of what's going on up front? I'd assume not. You don't need to see every little detail about my character. Maybe I want to reveal my character's abilities, aptitudes, and motivations through my RP. Open sheets take that away entirely.

The argument that 'Well people who don't want to see it will just not check it' doesn't solve the problem of players like me who genuinely don't want other players to see their stuff. Not for gamey reasons such as wanting to keep people from knowing what powers I have at what levels but because I have a lot of fun in my RP with slow-revealing my character's quirks and motivations over time and giving people access to my sheet would give away far too much information about them.

There's no reason for open sheets in any circumstance anyways, aside from staff-lite games that require players to police each other.

@magee101 I'd rather players didn't have access to all the OOC stuff about me. React to me ICly based on what you know, not what you know OOCly.

    • RE: Open Sheets?

I don't like open sheets. A shocker, I know. I just prefer it if people have to wonder just what my character's deal is. What are his merits, his flaws? Can he breathe fire? Is he dangerous or bluffing?

I like mystery. It's why on games with open +sheets I tend to not check other people's +sheets unless the game is pure PvE, and even then not in all cases. Hell I'd love to see game wikis with a masquerade. Going through wiki pages and wondering 'Ooooh, I wonder what this person is!' is really a lot of fun.

    • RE: General Video Game Thread

I demand an option in games to disallow other players to play the game any way other than mine.

I have the -right- as a white male to enforce my Christian worldview on others and demand that they conform to -my- desires.

Anything less is discrimination and proof that white males are the true victims of oppression in modern society.
