    • RE: Pay to Play MUSHing?

What about a regular MUSH with a tiered system where perks bought with real money went straight to charity? And carried over from character to character, so there was no risk of losing your monied-benefits?

    • RE: Spying on players

I've played on games with varying degrees of player spying. I hate it. I mean, I love it when you're wandering the grid on a MUD/MOO and a random NPC replies to you because a staffer is paying attention.

I hate it when I'm TSing and I get 'bow chicka wow wow!' paged to me by a staffer.

      It goes both ways.

    • Pay to Play MUSHing?

I know there are pay to play MUDs and the like, but I was wondering why we haven't seen any pay to play MUSHes.

I don't mean for-profit games of course. That's stupid. But a pay-to-play MUSH that serves to give money to a charity. Yes yes, I realize we could all just give money to charity and to heck with tying it to anything. I give to a couple charities and I'm sure most of you who can afford it do too. I've got a few questions/musings related to it and I'm interested in what you guys think about it.

      Is this model feasible?

I realize a lot of MUSHers can't afford to spend money on charity. MUSHing was how I entertained myself when I was miserable and jobless.

What kind of quality would be expected in a game people are paying to play?

Obviously it couldn't just be a bare-bones nothing provided game. People paying money, even if it's for charity, expect a higher quality than you generally get in free-to-pay products. It would require a good bit of effort and professionalism from those running the game.

What would the benefits be of a pay-to-play game?

Well the money would be going to charity, so there's the benefit of helping others. It's also one of the few systems where I could see a tiered approach working. I'd be all for giving more perks to people who are helping humanity by donating money.

What sort of charity would this be tied to?

Well I think the obvious one would be something related to literacy or education.

How do we ensure that the money is actually donated?

This is the big one. We're all anonymous internet people. Is there some way to ensure that the donations go straight to the charity? Is there a way to provide transparency so people know that nothing untoward is going on?

I know this is a silly idea and it just popped in my head but I'm at a point in my life where I don't have a ton of free time. What free time I have I'd love to be able to multitask into doing good -and- doing something I enjoy.

So please, I'd love to know what you guys think about the idea. Feel free to tell me how bad it is, if that's what you think. Thanks!

The only person I downvote is Ganymede. I just casually downvote whenever I read a topic they've posted in. I was unaware you couldn't see who downvoted you though.

    • Currently Active Games

Sorry, guys. I can't find the thread where we listed the currently active games.

Could someone link me to it? Or if it's gone somewhere if someone could paste me a list of current games here I'd appreciate it.

    • RE: Characters: What keeps you?

What has kept me attached to characters was... the theme of the character. I can generally only play a very narrow spectrum and actually stick with the character. It's probably just that I'm bad at RP.

How exciting and fresh for a setting! Small-town game set in the Northeast? Instant classic.

    • RE: Time for a New WoD Game?

I guess nWoD 2.0 would be palatable if I didn't have to call it 'beats' and 'experiences'. Just changing the name it's called would probably calm my old-man style fist shaking a little bit. Or even using the changed powers with the old XP cost-gain system. I'll be the first to admit that Vampires and Werewolves got a much needed boost.

But then we go down the path of houserules and complications and that makes it hard to get people excited.

Also the storyline of 2.0 has to go. It's awful, just awful.

Oh I didn't give up. I was stating that there's no point in boring games with 'beats' and 'hugs' and whatever it is kids these days are after.

I'm still very interested in making a game.

Well if boring hipster-beat is what folks want I guess there's no point.

Yeah, I'm sure there's stuff being worked on, but most games worked on never get released.

    • Time for a New WoD Game?

Eldritch is gone, Reno and Fallcoast are on a downturn right now and City of Hope is... well. City of Hope.

In the interest of keeping the community together I'd be willing to work with the rest of you to get another place going. I realize there's some potential projects coming up but there really should always be at least one 'catch-all' World of Darkness game that is set in a large city and caters to the major spheres so we all have a fall-back place to RP.

As for what game system... a lot of people don't like 'Beats' and the weird hipster stuff going on with nWoD 2.0, while others don't like the standard nWoD model. I'd lean towards basic nWoD as we all (all as in players of WoD games) have a familiarity with it and could live with it.

If anyone's interested this sort of game wouldn't require too much brainstorming. There wouldn't be anything crazy or fancy theme-wise. It would just require hosting, a coder, and a handful of people to run it.

    • RE: Queen's Blade: The Dark Rebellion

Why not just do an Adult World of Darkness game instead? I mean, they're all borderline pornographic anyways in the way they're played, but to actually call it an Adult game and advertise it as such would probably give it a greater chance of success than Queen's Blade.

The added bonus would be that players drawn to it for the Adult themes might actually enjoy the game system and play on other World of Darkness games.

Has anyone tried contacting Paradox and getting an official sponsored MUSH set up? I'm sure they'd be amenable.

Mortals/+ is way more boring than Hunter.

I think you'd see interest in a game drop off significantly if you went that route.

This is all good news. The Paradox guys are White Wolf nerd-fans from way back and have always shown an obsessive eye for detail in all their games. There may be a flop or two in what they release but by and large I expect them to be at the very least polished and well thought out.
