      I really liked FF15 😞

      I played it. Multiple times. I don't hate it enough to not play it. I even waited patiently for the DLC. But I have major complaints. Kind of hated how unpredictable warping in combat could be, and how hard it was to lock on to certain things. Hated even more that the story is told in such a disjointed way that anything after that spoilery thing on the train is just one massive jumble. Even if you pick up all of the in-game lore (which I usually do because I am a total completionist), I hate that they set it up so that you have to buy DLC just to learn how the goddamn main story goes without all the massive holes in things.

      Points for giving me Prompto though, who I assert is gay and has a crush on Noctis and fucking fite me. ❤

      ETA: Also, serious question -- I have not played Episode Ardyn. I very much want to know his story. Is this worth my money?

      ETA2: I should have said I want to know more about him than what I already know from the in-game lore, so -- is the DLC worth it on its own?

    • RE: Difference between an NPC and a Staff PC?

      @Auspice

      No, no.

      Ok. Let me try this again, since this doesn't seem to be doing the thing.

      You are a staffer running an NPC. You have, for sake of argument, two people with regular access to this NPC. One person RPs with this NPC almost every night (because, I dunno, they're the PCs mentor or something).

      You still need to make sure that you are giving screen time to the other person. The way that you do that is:

      1. Either run multiple scenes,

      -or-

      1. Make sure that they are getting access to said NPC in another fashion.

      If you aren't doing one of those things, and just cut the PC off from the NPC for no valid reason, then you are failing in your duties as the staffer running said NPC.

    • RE: Hog Pit as read only

      @runescryer

      It's certainly a discussion that could be had.

      That said, though, I'm not a fan of the idea. I'm also not a fan of the Hog Pit being opt-in, rather than opt-out. Opt-out should always be the default.

      I don't like the idea that there are 'secret' parts of the board that you can only get to if you know to join a specific group and then go look for them. To me, that just feels like we're hiding the ball.

      Especially when it's easy to turn off notifications and unwatch entire categories. Nobody ever has to see a Hog Pit post show up in their unread, or a Politics post. They can choose to opt-out of those a lot easier than it is to opt-in to them. You have to know there is something to opt into in the first place.

      ETA: Obviously that would be a discussion with more than just me, and my voice is only one voice. Not even the important one. Just my thoughts on the matter.

      Hey Derp, now that you've finished Part 1, how do you feel about them splitting the game into multiple parts that you'll have to pay additional for? This seems to be the most common gripe about the game that is circulating among the people I know.

      Honestly? I'm fine with it. Given the quality of what they put out, how much the expanded it, how much it drew me in? I'd end up paying almost as much for crap DLC in other games. I'll totally pay them to not fuck it up and put out a quality second part, especially if they did as well as on the first part.

      @faraday said in Difference between an NPC and a Staff PC?:

      This may be an unpopular opinion, but here goes: Nobody - and I mean nobody - is entitled to my free time. It is for me to spend as I choose. If RPing with Fred is excruciating, then I'm not gonna RP with Fred, as player or as staff

      Does Fred have any barriers to access to this NPC?

      Are you the only one that plays this NPC?

      Not all PCs get access to all NPCs for various reasons, but 'I don't like the player' is not one of them. Not for a staffer. You don't get to just arbitrarily decide that a player isn't worth your time, and therefore doesn't get access to said NPC, even if you are providing 'other ways to succeed', because that sometimes doesn't work.

      Frankly, if you can't work past a personal bias like that to give a player necessary screen-time with the NPC in question, then I think there's a problem.

      If a staffer on my game said that, I'd probably fire them. Not gonna lie. RP with who you want to in your free time on your PC. If you're on a staff bit, you're held to a higher standard. Or at least, I would hope.

      I don't believe any final decisions have been made. But it's not an idle topic either. There are still discussions happening on the subject. I expect that a final decision one way or another will be coming down the pipe in the near future.

      Yeah. I've been running into this problem recently. It just seems like people don't want to do things, and no matter how many carrots I out out there, this doesn't change.

      Sometimes I wonder if sticks would be the better answer, but everyone gets up in arms about that. Negative consequences for failures to act should be a thing too.

    • RE: No Confirmation Code to Change Email

      Currently working through this. It seems to be something to do with Google's changes regarding how you can sign into a gmail account. NodeBB says there is a workaround, but it's dated before the date on Google's site noting that less secure apps (those that only require you to sign in with a username and password, eg Node) will no longer be supported.

      Trying a few other things. This is on the radar though. Thanks.

      Just a fun, brief note on Far Cry 6: a good friend of mine who I used to MU* with was a writer on Far Cry 5 and has been working on Far Cry 6! She's super stoked to see her work finally being introduced. I couldn't be more proud of her.

      I have never played a Far Cry game and I saw this trailer and immediately wanted it.

      Good job, writer. I'm in.

    • RE: How to Escape the OOC Game

      @surreality

      I like and respect you too. Truly. But in this particular instance, I respectfully disagree, on several points.

      @Auspice said in How to Escape the OOC Game:

      Because sometimes I see things on these boards that starts to slip into the latter a bit and anyone who backs off and goes 'woah woah I can't be expected to take care of someone else's mental health' starts being accused of victim shaming/blaming and I am very not okay with that.

      This. Right here. This hobby has what I'm just going to flat-out call Professional Victims. The ones that always seem to get into a situation where someone has wounded them grievously, and those bastards deserve to pay for what they did. But then, they take no steps to take care of themselves. To guard their emotions. To step away from bad situations. To be fucking proactive.

      @surreality said in How to Escape the OOC Game:

      the only reason you could be upset about anything that happens on a game or in interactions with people you know from a game is because you're mentally unstable.

      This isn't remotely what I said. I said that the only power people have over you is the power that you give them, and that if you are constantly living in a state of fear/anxiety/anger or whatever about something that happens on a game that you voluntarily log into, that is a sign of instability. Being angry is fine. Being upset is fine. Living in that state constantly, willingly, is not fine. It is a problem.

      Call it victim-blaming if you want. But if people are so invested that they can't see what long-term damage it's doing to them, and are unable to walk away in favor of something healthier? Yeah. That's a problem.

      @ThatOneDude With frequency. There are a few Amish women locally who are using the computers to manage finances or to take college classes. There are a few men who have used them for the purpose of advertising one craft or skill or another they have for work, to deal with government stuff they are request to do and for different financing/budgeting things as well. And then there are a few Amish men who have been caught trying to use it to find themselves mail order brides or attempt to look at porn. (In the library, which we have blocks again, so then begins the awkward "I'm trying to look at family pictures but the computer won't bring them up and I wondered if there was something wrong with it.") They don't have mad computer skills, but it's like phones that they are allowed to use as long as it's not in their house. There are a lot of them that carry disposable cell phones around, and my understanding is that they are suppose to leave them in an outbuilding and not take them in the house when they return home. Though the frequency of how many get to do that may have changed in the last couple of years, given that there was cyber sexting/harassment case not long ago locally where the suspect was a young Amish man. (Txting pictures of his junk to a 12 yr old girl he fancied.) 😛

      The Amish are allowed to use telephones, they just can't have them inside their house. Many Amish have telephones in their barn for this reason. I'm not sure what the logic behind this is, but that's my experience, just as they're not allowed to own cars, but they're allowed to hire drivers to take them places where they need to go.

      Edit: My phone decided that Amish were Irish. Interesting.

      I honestly really preferred the more active combat style of DA2 over Origins, except that there just wasn't enough of it. I could've dealt with about twice as many encounters and been pretty happy.

      I dunno, I thought Inquisition split the baby pretty well there. It's been my favorite combat game to date. Though I guess the DA:2 Rogue did somewhat really shine.
