@somasatori It could be a cleverly encoded message! Think of all the hidden meanings that someone like the Carthians or the Free Council could see in this! Brilliant, I tell you.

RE: Issues with SimpleMu
While I haven't had this happen personally, as I use Potato, I've heard enough about SimpleMu to make me question:
Why do people still use it?
I mean, I'm not trying to detract from your topic at all. I'm really not. I know that a great many people prefer it, overall, but it's a client that hasn't been supported through at least, what, two versions of windows? You can just barely get the full version without key-cracker software at this point, but people still adore this thing.
What does it have that other, supported clients like Mushclient and Potato don't have? Is it tradition, or is it some actual feature of it that just draws people to it? What can it do that others can't? The only thing I've heard so far, overall, is that spawning is simpler. But is that really worth all of the headaches that come with all the problems?
And (perhaps more importantly, and more on the point), we have a number of people that are pretty proficient in coding and interface design, being a hobby for computer nerds, after all. Why has nobody taken up the banner to make a SimpleMU replacement that adds in all of the functionality of the things they love about it?
I think that this is a good example of something that we're rooted in by tradition, even though at times it seems counterproductive to the point of being somewhat destructive. We love the things that give us trouble, but are unwilling to part with them for Reasons(TM).
Anyway, does anyone have a solution for @surreality??
P.S. (Once again, sorry for possibly detracting from your thread, but I'm a bit intoxicated and fighting with the boyfriend, and wanted to get this out on "paper" before it flew out of my head. I'll probably move it to another thread in the morning when I'm thinking more clearly.)

RE: Skyrim Special Edition (also, Mods!)
@Arkandel said in Skyrim Special Edition (also, Mods!):
As someone who's played Skyrim but not a lot, is the SE worth getting as well? Give me the 101 please.
It depends, Ark. SE is just a visual overhaul of the original skyrim. It adds some new pretty scenery and some nifty effects (shoot water with fire, and it boils, stuff like that), but is otherwise just Skyrim. There is almost nothing that SE has that can't be accomplished with some modding on the PC version, like the godrays thing. It's more for folks that really enjoyed Skyrim and wanted to go back and see it newly enhanced with better graphics, especially on consoles.

RE: RL Anger
So I am the queen of unrequited crushes with a fine tradition of them going back all the way to kindergarden. After my last boyfriend many many moons ago, I decided to put those feelings in a box and tuck them away, but in recent years, such feelings have reared their ugly head once more. It's like seeing an old friend, except you know that old friend is going to get very drunk, sleep on your couch, and pee in the sink because they're so drunk/hung-over at 4AM that they don't realize what they're doing and then expect you to buy breakfast.
I think the difference between a celebrity crush and a real-person-you-know crush are important as with the former, there's no chance in hell and you know it going in, whereas with the latter, most of the time there is the chance of possibility. Which in its way, is so much worse.
That is one of the better ones.
Plus, I mean, several new weapons and the most kickass looking armor.

I gotta give props to my cat.
Normally, she won't sleep anywhere but by/on my legs. However, when I was verra sick and just sleeping it off Wed/Thurs, she spent a lot of time curled up right next to my neck/shoulders.
Cats really can tell when you just need that extra bit of love.
Well, how else is she supposed to know if you stop breathing? Human just isn't as tasty if you let it get cold.

- Am, actually, still alive.
1a. Almost died the night before NYE.
1b. Planned to see doc. Doc says my under five ft tall rainbow haired ass looks as though I am attempting to audition for high empress oh the oompa loompas with the color I have become and if it does not improve w/the meds by friday or (list of things) or looks even a tiny bit worse, go to the ER.
1c. ER: You are going to the fucking hospital and you should prepare for surgery at dawn if we don't have you one the table tonight.
Please note that as in the reality of events vs. their television counterparts or would be television counterparts, the prevalence of "fuck", and actual references to oompa-loompas is probably greatly exaggerrated.
-
Have no idea how long I will have to be here still, as 'has not died' is not 'is not at a disturbingly high risk of dying if a hair of something goes wrong with first surgery' are not the same thing.

Still do not want to hear wiki help reqs or invites to places or get questions about general game shit, because being in a life or death disaster? Zero patience right now for the kind of thing people dress up as such being flung my way. (See? I to take my mental health seriously, too.) That particular shit will hit a fan -- forcibly spattering the flinger.

Otherwise, all the Be good to each other, people.
Feel better! We need your particular brand of snark for many moons to come!

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
So, I've decided to invest in a new treadmill and weight bench, because the area where I live isn't exactly... safe to go running in. Not because of the neighborhood, but because of the utter lack of one. It's icy, it's backroads, and my nearest neighbors are miles away. That's before we get into the potentially threatening wildlife.
I knew that starting back out doing that stuff was going to suck. What I didn't anticipate?
The waits for them to arrive suck even more. I have motivation -now-. I wanna do things -now-. But unless I wanna drive foreeeeever, I have to wait for them to be delivered to a local store (and by 'local', I mean 20 miles away from me, mind).
Hopefully I can keep up the excitement.
Edit because, you know, verbs are helpful.

@Faceless That's awful and tragic. My wife and i would rap along in the car to 'Til Death do us part' in a thoroughly embarrassing way all the time.
That's because you were brought up right.

RE: Good Comics for People Who Don't Like Comics?
Also, if you don't mind homosexual romance plotlines, The Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal is a really good read.

RE: Mass Effect: Andromeda: The Thread
What I like:
- You can spend literal days exploring one planet and still not find all of its secrets.
- The story, though if feels a bit familiar in places (cough), seems really interesting in that 'holy crap' tension-building sort of way.
- The fact that you can switch profiles to be better suited to specific encounters is win, though I've mostly stuck with vanguard.
Things I'm Less Impressed With:
- We were promised that there would be more romance options available. If you're playing male Ryder and want to romance a male character, your options are limited to 2, neither of which are any of your primary companions, unlike female Ryder's veritable plethora of options, and the obvious one is out. Which is super lame. Bioware could have delivered on this promise so, so much better.
- The animations are a little rough in some places. Characters walk through me frequently, and clip into a pose. It's distracting. Patch that shit.
- The voice acting isn't bad, but it isn't -great- or anything. Especially since it sometimes even gives some between-the-lines lag in places it's not waiting for a response from you.

@ixokai said in Mass Effect: Andromeda: The Thread:
@Insomnia said in Mass Effect: Andromeda: The Thread:
@ixokai That's true, but the complaint also was that they said more options and didn't really follow through. They did though, with seven for male, and seven options for female. It's what, two same sex, two hetero options, and two bisexual, and one mono gendered option. (Asari look female, but that isn't how they reproduce. I get it it sucks if you don't like the look but if you are a female and have no interest in hot, alien girl on girl action, you only have 1 romance option.)
Seven options for a video game that has actual sex scenes. Even from a company that let you bone sexy aliens before. So I guess I was responding more to the wish they had carried through comment than the two comment.
I don't know that you're seeing the point.
For a gay male Ryder, there are two choices. Not seven. (And not one can be a regular mission companion)
For a gay female Ryder, there are four. (And two can be a regular mission companion)
Granted, I'm counting the asari as female here. I know by theme they are mono-gendered but I stand by that.
The 'bisexuals' are all female-ish, except Reyes (the second gay male option).
No, really, I am unhappy with this aspect of things. I don't especially like either Gil or Reyes, but feel I have to pick between one. Sooo.... uh.... whatever. I don't care. Yes, a Fem-Ryder has seven choices. But my Gay-Ryder has two. That's the point.
I'd have been happy if only the obvious choice would be able to be romanced, especially since the jerk took to being shirtless for a few days after I hit on him and he turned me down. Hmph.
If you think that's off, there is a side task you can do where your two male companions strip completely down on front of you. Neither of which are romance options for dude Ryder.
It's like a giant fuck you.

RE: RL Anger
I should point out that he has Cystic Fibrosis, so our food choices are usually limited to what his stomach can handle and in what quantities are necessary for his continued sustenance, so letting him work the magic there just happens to be a happy side effect. Thus our 'narrowing down of the things'.
Sushi being at the far end of the order of preference for both eliminated it, leaving 2. The rest is whatever he's feeling.

Part of me is like, thank you, I really didn't want to leave, but felt I had to.
And part of me is like, why didn't they do this sooner?
Anyways, I am staying for now - but I didn't sign a contract and if changes don't happen, I still might leave.
Only you know what's best for you. But glad that something positive is starting to happen for you!
