We considered that, but since the dude is basically broke it would be a hollow victory. They got him on some other criminal charges at the moment (part of why the self-defense cry is invalid per statute), so hopefully something goes through with that.
So, I don't usually like to talk about my RL life. But some shit has been happening and I need to vent.
So, as some of you know, my brother was killed. It's a big part of the reason that I have all but disappeared from this hobby. I am not in a very good mental place with it.
He was shot. It was not accidental. And our glorious investigative team is not filing murder charges because the guy who shot him is claiming it was self-defense.
Without going into too much detail, the facts of the situation do not, in any way, shape, or form constitute self-defense under Indiana's criminal statute. The facts don't allow for self-defense in this situation, and the statute specifically excludes it. Bonus points, Title 37 specifically calls out this particular set of facts as murder.
And yet, no charges against the guy that shot him.
Yet they have arrested his girlfriend, friend, and roommate using this same set of facts. The charge? Conspiracy to commit murder.
I'm sure that someone thinks they are being very clever, but even a layman can read the actual law and know that these charges should be brought. Maybe he'll get a sympathetic jury. It's Indiana. But the goddamn charges need to be brought before it can ever even get there.
I have never felt this angry, or this powerless, in my entire life.

I think this is the big draw of contemporary protestant christianity. Some people can never find happiness until they invent a reason why they are better/holier/more worthy than someone that they take great pains to paint as lesser.
So, not entirely sure where this should really go, so here seems legit, because all in all I'm pretty pissed off:
A lot of people know that my availability has sucked lately. Work has been killing me (80+ hour weeks for like a solid month now), and I was super looking forward to school starting again at the end of the month so I could legit tell them to go fuck themselves when it comes to that kind of a schedule and get back into a hobby I love.
Except, apparently that's not going to happen.
First, our local court system is useless, and that's probably putting it politely. My partner was arrested because the court made a clerical error. (Backstory: A few years ago, his license was suspended over yet another clerical error from the court, and we've been fighting a long and painful string of legal battles over these things for the better part of two, because naturally they failed to inform us that he was suspended, so he got a driving while suspended, which they're treating as an entirely different thing from the original, etc. We have gone to court over these charges no less than twelve times trying to get this resolved, because each time they tell us that one is resolved another pops up, and we can't seem to get them to understand that they made a mistake in the first place).
So this time, they put the wrong time on the summons to court. We showed up at 2. They had it scheduled for 10:30. We were told that a warrant would normally be issued but that they were going to rescind it because, you know, it had the wrong time on the paper. No such thing happened. He was arrested at work, and every time I tried to get information on his case (i.e. does he have a bond posted, what is the court date, etc) I was told that the court would see him whenever it decided to see him, and that nothing had been posted.
Normally this would be a minor setback. Except that my partner has cystic fibrosis, and a jail is the very last fucking place that he needs to be if we want to keep him, you know, alive, given the severity of his respiratory and digestive issues. So there is a very real concern for his safety here.
Continue this for two weeks, until I finally get ahold of a judge directly and explain what the hell is going on (again). They issue a bond. I pay the bond. He's out. Except now we have YET ANOTHER court date over this bullshit.
And as soon as that's over, and I think I can relax for a minute, I get a phone call informing me that my dad has what is very probably terminal esophageal cancer.
So. Even when work calms down, there are a ton of other things I'm going to have to take care of, because RL is seriously kicking my fucking ass. So for those waiting on me for stuff, sorry. 
But I need to do RL for awhile. I'll keep checking in here occasionally, and I'll even try to log in from time to time to chat with folks, but I'm not even joking when I say that sixteen to eighteen hours of my day is pretty much accounted for every day of the week.

I should point out that he has Cystic Fibrosis, so our food choices are usually limited to what his stomach can handle and in what quantities are necessary for his continued sustenance, so letting him work the magic there just happens to be a happy side effect. Thus our 'narrowing down of the things'.
Sushi being at the far end of the order of preference for both eliminated it, leaving 2. The rest is whatever he's feeling.

Noooooooooooooo. Not here. That is not the way that we are wired/raised. Being secretely/underhandedly shitty to someone? Absolutely. That is par for the course. Being even the tiniest bit rude to someone's face will abdolutely, without a doubt get met with ostracism and scorn.
Rural Indiana is a weird place. We will absolutely fucking you over, just never to your face, or without a smile/"Bless your heart."

Inner me: No, dude. I used a fucking vacation day so that you and I could go out and have fun, not listen to a depressing sob story from a twenty something fighting with her one-true-love-forever-until-next-week.
Also inner me: This is not her fault. But if I say no, it contributes to her otherwise shitty day, and we end up in a fight anyway. Guess I wasted a day on this.
Me: Fine. Whatever.
That moment when you and your best friend make a deal that something is going to go down a certain way, and then he changes it up in that clever, shitty way that you're put on the spot, and if you don't go along with the changes he wants, innocent people get caught in the middle.
Fuck. We are gonna have some goddamn words after this.
