RE: Umbral Shards - Alpha
Can you give some details on the codebase you're using? I don't know if I'm using the right word.
Is it Evennia-based? Ares-based? MUSH-code? Etc.
Is there a place where intrepid souls can look at your homebrew system and point out issues before you commit the system entirely to code?

That, too. I get home around 10pm lately. And after walking a mile home from the bus, I just... do not want to cook. It's been a lot of ramen these days.
You could pre-cook and warm up?
I make a killer meatloaf; that heats up well. Chicken breasts that are cut up into cubes are great protein additions to a salad.
Pasta holds up well to re-heating too, and, if you're really bold, you could half-cook your pasta, wash it, put it into portion packages (I like Tupperware, but you could just plastic wrap them) that I can toss into a bowl with some boiling water from a kettle. Then, you can let sit for 5 minutes, strain, and eat with whatever trimmings and/or sauce.
Also, never underestimate the power of Progresso soups.

RE: World of Darkness -- Alternative Settings
I'm thinking 2E, so no Changelings. Sorry. Or, not yet. Whatever.

Cyberpunk. World of Darkness: Shadowrun: The Runnening
Okay.
Dare I ask -- what about Blade Runner: The Darkening?
You know, cyberpunk dystopia, corporate city-states, and replicants trying to round up meta-humans to sterilize or kill them.
Good place to start?

Pleez halp? What do you mean?

The Earth is no more. Sprinkle in a combination of Dark City, Everworld, and Valerian... reality is now a series of pocket realms. There is MEGA CITY zone for city folks, GOTHIC VILLE for others, WILDERNESS for Woofs, EGYPT LAND because ALL HAIL MUMMIES, and so on.
Not sure if I'd break it up like that, but I'd like to hear and think of more.

Why is it so hard to process having a bunch of people telling me I look beautiful/pretty? Like, near panic attack level feelings. It's a compliment. I should enjoy compliments, right?
You should, but, you know, Matt Lauer.

World of Darkness -- Alternative Settings
Do you play World of Darkness games? If so, you've probably played on eleventy-billion CITY BY NIGHT games. You know what I mean: city; government; people; places; etc. With 2E games, it seems that the only ones that have opened, except for The Descent, largely remain placed in the modern world.
Have you thought of any alternate settings? For example, The Descent: a government-run program in the 1950s bombards the planet from orbit, which destroys much of civilization and rips the Gauntlet open, causing spirits to flood into the real world.
Perhaps you've played in an alternate setting. What was it like? What did you like about it? What did you hate about it? And what would you like to see in an alternate MUSH setting?

Congratulations! You beat up on the Packers without Aaron Rodgers, the Lions, and the Bears.
It's like congratulating the Patriots for taking the AFC East. It's an absolute catastrophe if they don't because of the dysfunction of the Bills, the Jets, and the Fish.

I had a Mass Effect audio drama I was going to make with friends, set in C-Sec, and one of the running jokes was a really terrible news channel on the Citadel that one of the characters insisted on watching, where the news anchors were an elcor and a vorcha.
There will be a company-wide channel, represented by a channel on-game. I will expressly permit people to make up DJs and other personae to have "radio shows," if that's what they want to do.
Because I really can't stop laughing about your idea. I mean, could you imagine a Elcor Maury Povich show?
Maury: Exasperated and exhausted. Today, on Maury, we again produce more Asari of questionable morals looking for their children's fathers or mothers. Suicidal and chagrinned. I used to be a well-known celebrity once.

Drunken, effusive exclamation: Alas, poor Yorick.

RE: Mass Effect MU*?
Okay. None of the following:
- Hanar
- Elcor
- Volus
- Asari
Just kidding on the last! Where would we be without hot blue aliens?
-
RE: Mass Effect MU*?
I didn't say I didn't want powers! I said that they'd be tricky to code, and may need to be waived or ignored.
I just -- no, no Hanar, plz.
Drell, I'm okay with, but I'm pretty sure that, in canon, they are sort of rare. Then again, on a game where your race may not mean a lot system-wise, whatever, right?

Maybe if you give xp to people who lose their shit at suitable moments? Xp incentives are a powerful drug.
Unfortunately, XP incentives aren't great for FS3.

I was playing around with a FFG c-gen system. I've been pondering trying to do something small, possibly semi-private, to satisfy my SW fix. If there were enough people interested I could set a place up for us to meet and discuss things or whatever.
I'll give it a shot.

Goddamit. Fuck C.F.
I am earnestly sorry to hear this.
Last year, around this time, my little girl was in the hospital for an upper respiratory infection. Actually, she was in the hospital because she could barely breathe, and her O2 saturation dropped below 90. This was because she had been infected by 6 different ailments. The funny part is that her twin brother had some other disease, which probably couldn't have infected her under the Burns Principle.
Nothing sucks worse than watching a 3 year old at a near-unconscious state because she cannot breathe. They had her on a constant flow of albuterol sulfate and concentrated O2. For 8 days.
My partner had to go to school. She failed a couple of exams, and had to re-take them. I had to go to work every day, then spend the night at the hospital. I lost 15 pounds during this time because I ate 1 meal a day.
I watched her every night. The sound of the respirator. I freaked out every time the vital monitor hiccupped. I saw Frozen eleventy-billion times (her favorite movie).
8 days.
And all you can do is watch. For the first two nights, it was through tears. For the rest, there was that feeling of guilt for not bringing her to hospital immediately, and for thinking, dammit, if she'd just stop coughing at night I could get some sleep.
8 days.
I feel you. Hard. But these are times that makes us men or women or whatever we are.

No Drell? You are dead to me.
Old homebrew system. It has been stricken. Most non-Council races probably wouldn't have a place, and Drell are really tied to the Hanar.
But, we'll see, I guess.

RE: Mass Effect MU*?
@tat said in Mass Effect MU*?:
Yes, specific skills like 'carnage' and 'marksman', but also like 'overload' and 'nova' and 'throw' and 'cryo blast'. For me, these sorts of wildly fun combat things are a big part of what gets me into ME - and it's some of the most fun I've had playing it. It is a game that allows for so many players to be so snowflakey badass in so many unique ways that really makes storytelling fun (in my opinion).
I get that. The homebrew system I made allowed you to do some fun ability-combos, like shifting where others acted in initiative, and so on. It was built from a combination of Blood Bowl, WH40K, and Pokémon. Don't ask me how I came up with that combo.
But FS3's combat engine seems to be a simultaneous-action-resolver, right? It doesn't lend to sequential events well.
That said, I mean, there's time. And planning. A sit-down and chat regarding what can be changed in the combat system would probably go a long way. It's probably of no surprise that I always pick a Soldier concept, and generally can't be bothered to play with Tech or Biotic characters.
