@TNP The Rebels clearly had a presence on Corellia in the EU--Garm bel Iblis was one of the original creators of the Rebel Alliance. And I agree with your statement that it was probably more of a fundraising/recruiting center. But the moment you start trying to incite a revolt in a Core World, you have to think about what the Empire just did to Alderaan a short while ago in your canon. They clearly aren't going to flinch from destroying a Core World that strongly supports the Rebellion.

You're going to need to suspend some disbelief.

Plus, blowing up Corellia is very different than blowing up Alderaan. Obliterating the latter wasn't going to cripple the Galactic Empire's fleet, whereas doing the former would piss off just about every good pilot in the navy.

But with Star Wars, you have a fairly small pool of FCs unless you go into people apping random Cantina patrons and the like.

With the number of Star Wars games and novels in existence, I can say with reasonable certainty that the number of potential FCs can easily rival Marvel FCs.

If FCs are no different, even stats-wise from OCs, then why differentiate between the two?

The staff are talking about treating them equally stats-wise, but Luke Skywalker is different than OC-nimnob.

Lets face it Vader is a fuck up through the first trilogy for the most part and in the prequels he mostly flounces and whines. The only two things he really has going for him are a cool outfit and James Earl Jones' voice.

Now that I have kids, I have a better appreciation for the character.

I am aware that the health of my ecosystem relies in part on the health of my neighbors ecosystems.

Then fucking do something about it. I spend a great deal of pro bono hours helping small start-ups and entrepreneurs, for example.

That no one can save an outdated model isn't a problem; it's natural. That no one gives people the tools, resources, or education to adapt, and push policies that actively keep them down -- that's the problem, and it is a fixable one.

That the solution is fucking ridiculously easy to do is aggravating.

I feel that's one of the reasons people don't make games. It's the rampant preemptive criticism.

You say this like pre-emptive criticism is a bad thing.

Clearly, the staff here have thought through the problems. This is a good sign. If anything, knowing that @TNP and @ixolai are on board is a reassuring thing.

If an advertised game cannot survive the pre-emptive criticism, then it really needs to be thought through again.

I have little sympathy for the "let it all burn" vote.

I can either try to get them on my side by helping them while they resist, or help push them to political extinction.

Then you will succeed at neither. The marginalized and forgotten will always exist; they will not get on your side until you try to sympathize with theirs.

Said another way, there will always be someone dying from cancer brought by their own actions, but if you don't understand why they engage in such activity you will never get them to stop.

I think the other thing that you have to look at is that huge swaths of the country, especially those left behind, have not been living under "liberal" governance.

I think the point of the article is that this doesn't matter.

In the heartland of America, the ideals that most left-wingers fight for simply don't exist. It is quite literally a step back in time. This is not a bad thing, but it is a thing which, as a nation, we must respect and try to understand.

In this area of America, people have been left behind. Corporations had their way, and deserted it. Farms are being taken over by corporations. Old labor -- coal mining, cattle-herding -- is being put out of business. And these people -- these proud, wonderful people -- look to the federal government as the cause.

Of course, the federal government isn't to blame for what's happening, but the federal government has done nothing in the past eight years to assist the heartland. So, rather than put faith in the system again through Clinton, they decided to try to blow it all to Hell with Trump.

There are many, I'm sure, who are just as anxious as we are. And they cling to hope, as we do, for something better. Best thing to do is go back, reach out, and figure out how we can all help each other without the government because, from the way things are going, it's going to fucking shitballs in a second.

I'm not blind, but I am conscious of the idea that some people may like to jump to the conclusion that I might be doing this just so I can get my rocks off at the idea of having gotten into Andor's pants. I hate the whole shaming bullshit that comes with that attitude.

I can whole-heartedly assure you that you need not worry that my gentle-hearted ribbing is some back-handed comment about getting rocks off.

Mostly because I like rocks. And getting off. I'm hardly one to judge.

I am tentatively considering my character previously having some tangential association with a Rogue One feature. Who is dead anyway, but I'm torn between "hey that would be a neat little hook" and "ugh, stop trying to be a snowflake, Cupcake".

Look, the truth is, Diego Luna probably fucked a whole lot of bitches on his excursions for the Rebellion.

I specifically made the distinction though (if you're replying to me) - they should be NPCs.

Not directly on that point, no. I quoted a very specific thing: namely, that personal preferences are a thing and not all games can satisfy all people. Which is true, but sandboxes are sandboxes and should be advertised as such.

      @TNP

As staff, sure. In allowing FCs? I can do that because I have some familiarity with you and am willing to trust on that alone.

But you're using FATE, and my distaste for that system is near-legendary.

FCs aren't the problem. Their players sometimes are.

      "Sometimes"?

I can give people the benefit of the doubt, but I also am aware of history. Some people play child PCs well too, but we, as a community, eschew them on games because they have been, by and large, played: (1) poorly; and/or (2) as sex toys, which squicks the fuck out of a lot of people.

FCs as NPCs? That's fine. FCs as PCs, and, especially, staff PCs? Dear God, no.

While this is no doubt true, create a sandbox is you want one, but label it as such. I generally don't join games when I'm only going to end up being the lighting-guy.
