Obviously I didn't spend a lot of time polishing it up. You'd have to add special handling for step 1/2 (because they work weird) and for karma and some error checking, but it's got the basic mechanics down.

      Thank you.

Now, a chargen, please. Chop chop.

      (Hey, whatever works, right?)

      (Thank you!)

Because nobody's ever run an Earthdawn game? It wouldn't be hard to do. FFG wouldn't either unless there are some hidden depths beyond the webcomic @Jennkryst cited, but based on what I've heard about the system, it doesn't seem so?

If you say so; you're a far better coder than I.

I just always figured that a system that uses all dice, with the potential to explode, would be rather difficult to code up. Especially if it tracked just by step.

Coding almost any dice system in a MU is stupidly easy (7th Sea 2nd edition dice being an insane exception).

If so, then why hasn't someone coded up Earthdawn's step-system? Chop, chop.

(FFG's dice are ... complex. Sorry, they are.)

It sounds like she's jealous of her friends (or acquantainces) and their kids who lavish them with compliments where everyone else can see.

I don't compliment any of my friends on FB. Ever. If I want to send a message, I do it via PM or posting something directly to their wall.

People don't want my kind of attention, because it often brings vulgarities and kitty videos.

Speaking as a new Star Wars player who's familiar with the movies and has watched Clone Wars (I need to watch Rebels...) along with a couple of books back in the day, but is in no way an expert in the SW universe, what makes or breaks a MU* - as usual, I guess - isn't the mechanics.

Yes, but if the mechanics are difficult to code, good luck seeing that version of the game online.

That said, the sparkling fun part of DoD is its set of help files, which are extensive and detailed. It is obvious they put a lot of time into making sure that players could play the game without having to flip back through reams of books to get the text on a particular Feat, Skill, or Talent.

So, yeah: it boils down to staff. Because they determine the set-up, and DoD's set-up is pretty stellar, as far as games go.

I've run into a couple of systems that I really liked until they dropped something like, drawing cards out of the deck, onto the system

      See, I like Castle Falkenstein's deck-o-cards system.

The problem with Fantasy Flight Games' engine is as @Misadventure describes. Plus, the dice are not ordinary, which may be problematic for coders.

So, as much as I despise d20s, I'll deal with the crunchiness of the SAGA edition.

FFG's new Star Wars engine blows Saga and D6 out of the water, in that it actually feels like Star Wars. But then, that would require Mushers to do something new. Which means it will never happen.

I like FFG's engine as well, actually. If a game used it, I would probably jump right in; I'm not a huge fan of Feats, Talents, and d20s.

If there are powers/merits/skills whatever that are actually useless and will actively KEEP players from being included in RP...why are they available?

Because they aren't totally and completely useless, or are prerequisites to other, better powers.

Take Tech Specialist as a Feat. Kind of okay. You need it for Superior Tech to upgrade shit hardcore. Or Starship Designer, which allows you to modify your ships.

I could have taken more useful feats, but I wanted to have the ability to upgrade my YT-1300. So, you give a little. Such is the nature of the SAGA edition -- and any other game built off of D&D.

Power attack? Kind of blows. Cleave? Much better.

Except for the plots that I and a few others ran, the rules weren't followed and things were very freeform -- which can be good and bad. It can lead to awesome stories, or it can lead to the (just barely) Force Sensitive Zeltron Death Watch Mandalorian Empress of the jungle planet (yes, really) Tattooine using Move Light Object to lift a creature larger than a speeder, because obviously she is Force Sensitive, so she can lift big things, even if she doesn't have the Move Object Force Power.

This may be the case, and these players may still be about. I don't know.

So far, though, staff has been naught but helpful. If they are okay with players running plots, then it's only a matter of time before some of us start doing this with an eye towards detail. I'm all for hand-wavium when needed, but you cheapen the system by blatantly ignoring certain things.

Personally, I'd like to run a big space battle.

A couple of the Talents actually don't do -anything- without house rules. Expert Pilot: Elusive Dogfighter, for instance, adds a penalty to attacks that... can't happen, because the person with the Talent won the Pilot check in the dogfight already. It's not the only one. Some Talents/Feats are just bad.

Yeah, but the penalty applies to gunners in the dogfight. The pilot may not be able to shoot, but the gunner can do so at -5 penalty. It's not super-useful, but Y-Wings and other two-man ships have an advantage in a dogfight.

That said, I know what @Arkandel is getting at. You shouldn't feel compelled to twink out to be an effective whatever, but the system is such that you can be more effective in one build over the other. The more focused you go, the better you are: e.g., my PC would be a much better engineer/ship designer if she plopped down more shit into Superior Tech, but she can also pilot a ship, blow shit up, sneak around, and generally be a pretty good tech-based rogue PC.

One of the benefits to SAGA is that leveling up automatically makes you better in combat. Further, squad-based tactics put a premium on players that work as part of a team, which is also a departure from WoD. So, my tech-based rogue PC is pretty damn good against low-level twerps, no matter what Feats and Talents I take.

It rubbed me the wrong way the other day when someone, after he asked and looked at one of our group's +sheets, gasped "What?! You took <talent>?!" over on a public channel.

I've never seen that happen on a WoD MU*.

There are some truly "meh" talents in SAGA. Almost all WoD benefits have some moderate usage and applications (except, say, the Autumn Court's C:tL initial Court boon), but the same can't be said about all SAGA Talents. Still, yeah, it's gauche as shit to blurt out the fact that you think someone's super-stupid.

I'd chalk it up to "moron." Or "immature" and "inconsiderate." We'll see if it soon becomes "douchebaggery." There's another SAGA game opening, so options may become available in the future.

I don't know if it means anything though. And I mean that literally - I haven't been on the game enough to know what the effects of this are on RP.

I find it annoying as hell, really.

But, there's the flip-side to it: it is really difficult in SAGA to be consistently good at things without optimization. That's the nature of d20 games. And the ramification for failure can sometimes be harsh: roll a 1, and you are going to have big problems.

This is different than nWoD games, where a reasonable pool usually results in the necessary 1 success. You've generally got one shot in d20, so you have to make it count.

So far on DoD, though, the player base and staff seem to be okay with some new ideas. They just like to offer their opinion because they know the system pretty damn well. Luckily, they have policies that make the entry to play low, and SAGA operates in such a way that if you know what you can do, you generally don't have to spend too much time about thinking how others are going to contest you.

I'm looking for a Star Wars MU* that has actual RP with some activity (Or even a sci-fi MU*). The places I've checked are either dead or lack RP. It's a sad world.

Star Wars: Dawn of Defiance is still going. It has activity. Code-wise, it's excellent. It uses the SAGA Edition.

Opinions on Smashburger? I found the one on University Place inadequate at best.

As a general rule, I don't look for good food near a university.

When you're back in Dayton, try going to Lucky's Bar and Grill for a fantastic burger. Blind Bob's isn't so bad either, if you're into greasy spoons. And, finally, try Lily's Bistro or Corner Kitchen for good, locally-sourced stuff. All are located on Fifth Street in the Oregon District.

If they were more tasty than a bit of wet cardboard, I would be okay with $5.

Maybe it's your location, because the 5G near my place isn't that poor.

Still, I have a soft spot for Steak and Shake. Cheap-ass, decent burgers.

      About the exhaustion.

That's why I don't take any such steps to record my conversations with staff. Why the fuck should I have to do any of that shit?

      I shouldn't. So, I don't.

What? Five Guys here in Columbus are bland burgers at an insane price. It's like they want to be In & Out Burger but can't manage being as good, varied, or well-priced.

Over here in Dayton, the burgers are under $5. How this qualifies as being as expensive as a restaurant is beyond me.
