I don’t think you fully grasp the dynamics of women in the workplace.

In less stressful news, I got my L&I income replacement check from the state. It's less than half, but better than nothing, and allowed me to at least make the health insurance payment, so there is that. I was shocked that it only took a couple of weeks.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
I am in enough real life stress that I find it impossible to get into gaming at the moment.
And that really, really bites.

You have other tools at your disposal, such as editing people's posts, temporary suspensions, etc.
Editing a person's post does not address the harm that was caused, which was the statement in the first place. Temporary suspensions are, in my opinion, pointless. Rinel, who has posted here a while and is someone who I know understands that there are boundaries which cannot be crossed, knows the rules here.
If you were unaware, another rule is don't make me fucking work. This is a tongue-in-cheek way of saying that if I have to address an issue, I am going to do so and it may be in a way that is as direct and final as possible.
Be advised that I do not sit on this place consistently and have no interest in constantly policing it to make sure that people who know the rules, or ought to know them, are staying within the lines.
If Rinel had actually accused the other person of particular things, sure, but for having particular sympathies?
I concur that there is a difference between accusing someone of being a murder-sympathizer and a murderer, but in both cases you are attacking the person in your argument. And while there are certain personal insults which have been overlooked as innocuous -- e.g., you're an idiot; you're stupid -- the general rule for anywhere but the Hog Pit is to attack an idea, not a person.
If anyone wants to debate whether my strict approach is justified or not, please feel free to PM me about it. I do not feel inclined to engage in a public conversation about it at this time.

Sometimes, people we like cross the line. This is what happened in the Politics area.
No matter how heated a discussion becomes in an area that isn't the Hog Pit, accusing someone of being a murder or rape sympathizer is right out. I don't think I need to elaborate on why.
We all may have strong feelings on any nation's military and their role in atrocities across the world and history, but stick to what has happened and who did it rather than suggest that another person actively supports such actions.
Speaking of the Hog Pit, there are lines in there that cannot be crossed. The Politics area is just like any other part of this forum, though, which means that one should avoid personal attacks.
I hope that my direct language here illustrates how disappointed I am in having to take any action to begin with.

See, I don't see emotionally supported heroes when I re-read that book.
I see, as Louis would put it, the deranged writings of a drunken Irishman. I can think of so many other Gothic books I'd rather read than that one.

Yes but the school system isn't actually set up to prepare children for life after school.
I concur, and that's why I qualified the statement by saying: "[i]f one of the goals of school is to prepare children for the real world ... ."
@faraday said in The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves):
The dropped the mid-morning snacks because they didn't want the kids taking their masks off while eating, and apparently it's too much trouble to coordinate taking them to the cafeteria or auditorium or whatever where they can space out more.
My kids go to a Catholic School, and they have a mid-morning snack. If the fucking Catholic Church can do it, with how archaic it is, then I'd like to think that a public school system can get it done too. Then again, where I live, masks are only recommended.
My kids wear them anyway because if they don't I will beat the fuck out of them.
(Actually, I wouldn't, and don't, but if you ask my girl whether she'd rather lose dessert or get a spanking, she'll take the spanking.)
(That said, I guess I'd better make sure she doesn't make an OnlyFans site or something in ten years, what with how much she likes spankings.)

It is. And I'm fairly certain it violates the ADA.

And on the other end of the extreme, my son's school has lunch at 12:50 and refuses to give him a mid-morning snack.
Why on God's green Earth would anyone deny a mid-morning snack? I'm a fucking adult who runs a law firm, and I happily let my staff eat wherever and whenever they want.
If one of the goals of school is to prepare children for the real world, then here's a tip: let kids eat when they want to. Because studies in weight-loss have shown that restricting eating times can lead to bad eating habits, like over-eating.

I was handed a letter already signed by HR stating that I have accepted that I was released from employment for 'failing my probationary period'. When I asked for clarification, I was told that 'they were unable to say anything more'.
If you want, you can PM me about this. Because this smells like something an employment lawyer would feed on.

@arkandel said in Dare I ask...:
The first is that they cannot be universal unless it's a single-sphere game, and that creates an additional barrier to character progression - one that's based on the player, not their PC.
How so?
Derp employs a very strict requirement on what a justification ought to look like, and yet I have never had one rejected for content. I have overlooked raise limitations, but that's a procedural thing.
Frankly, there are only two reasons it is ever a barrier: (1) because a player feels it so; and (2) a pretext for playing favorites by staff. Neither is a good reason not to have them.
The second is the very purpose of having justification requirements in the first place isn't consistent in general. If it's to promote IC plausibility then no character on the grid should ever raise their Medicine over 3 unless they start high.
This is a bad thing? I would love it if staff actually enforced this.

If anyone has any advice on this kind of situation I'm all ears. Has anyone else gone through this? My son is in 1st grade.
It may not be ADHD, but if you have a diagnosis, go with it.
Patience. Lots of patience. But there's more to it too. Is he struggling in school with the work? What about at home? Does he understand the material at all Because it could be that he could be on the spectrum too, and I mean that not in a bad way.
My son is often distracted by things because he's easy to distract. He's polite and kind, but not aggressive. He shows signs of what some might consider to be ADHD. He is overly-fixated on horror movies. And he seems to struggle on concentrating. But he's not ADHD; he has a speech delay.
So, if your son still seems observant and gets through the homework with help? Chances are that it's just a thing right now. Because my son's settled back into schooling and is nailing (near perfect) just about every evaluation over the past month. I hope the same happens for you! Just don't panic.
I am slowly unlearning what I learned about mental issues. I more and more believe that what we used to consider "issues" are simply a sign of divergent thinking. Thank goodness we are living in better, more empathetic times. Giving more hugs seems like stupid advice, but the premise is still good.

I have been busy. I will be busy tonight too. But I will make a mental note to move it if mietze doesn't get to it first.
