One of my last Changeling attempts was this big, brutish, bruiser of a man. Bouncer. Cage fighter. Strong silent type.

He was a chimera/patchwork monster concept on the other side. Repeatedly torn apart and sewn back together by a child-minded Gentry who was essentially Spike from Toy Story. His Gentry collected toys, forced them to fight each other, did games with them, and when they broke he would take pieces of them, sew them into each other, made newer, more interesting toys.

So back in the real world, he knew that he could fight, defend himself, perhaps even others, but struggled with issues about who he was, didnt feel comfortable in his own skin, felt disconnected from his skin, and struggled with that initial instinct to size everyone up for a death match when in truth he didn't want to fight. So he fought in cage matches to keep it under control.

Sigh. Only got a few scenes in. Barely played the concept but would again in a heartbeat. Beautifully dark and filled with potential for rewarding RP, albeit at times depressing.

To double down, I think the best Changeling players see it this way and embrace it.

All refugees with similar tales of abuse, hiding from similar BoogeyMonsters, trying to hide and praying every night that the ACTUAL monster doesn't reach up from under the bed and drag them back to a timeless, warped landscape of abuse.

Changeling's point is missed entirely if this aspect is ignored in lieu of otters flying biplanes made of insect carapice.

Kimmy Schmidt trope I would love. The level of denial and forced getting over it would be a logical mental response, and would love it more to see those little cracks in the porcelain from time to time.

This show has some serious moxie. I'm loving it.

I don't care if Alan Moore hates it. It's a nod to the original style of storytelling, is political as Hell, and is everything that I hoped for.

2. Political interpretation of the story design of a game could become dangerzone. I kinda wondered if it would be better on the politics forum, myself, but like all things MSB these discussions get offloaded to proper areas around the time that people start calling for blood. In the meantime if someone wants to interpet the story however they feel(1)? Meh. Art is art.

(1) I mean, with enough time and thought I'm sure you could make the argument that Top Gun is a giant allegory for a man's struggle with his sexuality, or that Star Wars is about the struggle of a father wanting to maintain relevancy with his children after a nasty divorce, or that Aliens is a sci-fi retelling of the Puritanical/expansionist atrocities committed against North America's indigenous peoples. Whatevs. Not worth fighting about; better as convo over beers.

Yeah absolutely. In this context I was particularly referencing how BioWare essentially defined the 'companion romance' trope in modern games. Baldur's Gate 2 (admittedly these are iffy by modern standards), NWN, DA/ME, etc. And they've often been ahead of the curve for something so mainstream. KotoR had the first LGBT character in the Star Wars EU, for instance. BioWare didn't abandon it under their new management, but they lost a lot of the excellent writing, which Obsidian is carrying on.

I get ya. I know CDPR has taken some flak about an in-game ad regarding trans but not making trans a playable option. No news yet as to whether or not they made it an option, but CP2077 is allegedly going to have mixed romance options.

Vampire Bloodlines 2 is reportedly shooting for woke in terms of representation:

“The character creator, which players get to use twice – once at the start to define your human aspects and then a second time later in the game to flesh out your vampire – goes way beyond basic male and female models. Body type, gender pronouns, employment history and fashion can all be toyed with for a very modular build.”

Not sure yet what relationships will be like because the game seems to want to focus on blood, flirtation, and seduction (and less romance) to keep that "creature of darkness" feel.

The other day Aus and I mentioned on a thread about some of her private info being dished and I supported it by stating that I'd heard the same from the same person. No names were mentioned.

We were each privately reached out to with defensive PMs, it seems. In mine I decided to take the "I dont like that you do this, please just go away" approach. What we have now is a preemptive strike in what appears to be concern that team B was going to strike first, or something. There was a lot of artistic license taken in that original post.

So while it may be within the realm of possibility that Auspice could whisper campaign about this (throw a rock and you'll hit a gossipper in this hobby), the accusation here is that Aus and I are privately amassing some whisper campaign army to turn people against her, which simply isn't reality.

But now, I suppose, people are well and free to choose to partake in whisper campaigns of their own as residual fallout of this highly public dumpster fire.

The logical problem with this situation is that the response to being told (in private) that their retaliatory behavior and sharing of other people's private life details was not liked... is a highly public MSB thread about how character assassination and sharing people's private life details is so wrong that it warranted retaliatory character assassination and making these private details public as a means to get in front of it just in case.

Fucking bullshit that you felt the need to share that to defend yourself, @Auspice. Well. Guess it's everyone's business now.

@thesuntsar the purpose of my post wasnt to rant, but the reality is that by making this some huge public spectacle they're risking their reputation on a forum they seem to care more about their standing on than I do. It's unfortunate and entirely unnecessary.

However, it was one of the few ways that I could (or was willing to) do what I thought was ethical to try assuage whatever fear of reprisal is driving this episode, which is clearly causing a RL impact.

I may dislike people for specific reasons, but they're real people and I'm not into live action suffering.

FWIW, Surr, there is no whisper campaign going on against you.

For reasons that are no one else's business (I say this to protect all parties involved including surr) I made a decision to cease side-communication with surr on Discord. I recently agreed with someone on the forum about bad behavior that I had also experienced, and independently chose to sever the relationship.

There is no intention of sharing or spreading accusations, no whisper campaign, nor were there any threats or targeted, unhinged fury. In truth, had this not become a largely public preemptive accusation, it would have likely never reached anyone's knowledge. I'm not one to reveal sources, nor do I have any interest in sharing with others what was shared about them; that would be exhausting to unpack. Character assassination is wrong, even if it's preemptive character assassination, yea?

So, FWIW, you you can rest easy surr knowing that there is no whisper campaign or shadow movement to destroy you, or whatever (at least not from me). I politely request that you leave me alone, cease accusations without evidence, stop retaliating in this manner, and on a human level I hope you understand that there is no threat happening that you need to proactively defend yourself against.

My opinions of you (or what I perceive your behaviors are)are none of these people's business.

I will not argue this for public entertainment or whatever "arena showdown" thing this is, but ask that you do not PM me anymore, even to resolve this. Please keep me on ignore if you feel the need to do so.

This is a preemptive series of accusations and a highly one-sided (and exaggerated) opening statement in what is intended to be a targeted and public trial by mob justice in retaliation to something (in this case, a whisper campaign that doesn't exist), as direct result of a private conversation about my dislike of her retaliatory behavior. Not the first of it's kind from this person, but that's as close as I'll venture to squabble on this one.

Like me or not, let's stick to screenshots and accusations that people can defend themselves against, and if I privately contact you to whisper campaign feel free to post the screenshots here to hold me responsible for a thing I've actually done.

This was no one else's business, and wasn't, until this thread was created.
