There's definitely an element of it in American racism. Black people are poor, which must mean they're lazy; black people don't do well in school, which must mean they're stupid; black families are broken, which must mean they're selfish; on and on like that. I think most of it really is visual signifiers, though. Like, if Ted Cruz was as visibly Hispanic as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, he'd never have been allowed into Republican halls of power.

I would expand the section about non-consensual sexual RP to mention various acts of harassment, and a statement to the effect of, "This list is intended to be illustrative, not comprehensive. Staff will take steps to protect the community from offenses not specifically listed here: the spirit of the law is more important than the letter."

I have never bought into the idea that the N-word is "reclaimed", mostly because I've never heard it used in a context than it was used originally: negative. The only thing people have done is normalize the idea of being negative to their friend groups - which is a rather normal, standard-practice unhealthy relationship dynamic. A lot of women I know use our friends as kind of emotional punching bags to express the anger we don't feel safe expressing in the situation that actually provoked it. I sometimes wonder if the behavior you describe is a similar phenomenon: oppressed people venting their anger in small bursts in safe settings.

No argument, but at least on my end, the fetishization isn't the problem. It's the shallowness, which I think is the problem people are really discussing.

In all fairness, I complain constantly about men playing lesbians, at least when they do badly, like by treating gay women as voracious sextigers out to plant a butt in every female character's lap and a tongue in every female character's crevices. I just don't lose any sleep over it because on the list of problems I face due to my orientation, being badly represented by a few intellectually uncurious weirdos playing make-believe on a dying medium is just about the least serious threat imaginable. If you* are that kind of player, I'll make fun of you behind your back to a circle of friends I feel I can trust, possibly make vague allusions to you on this board, and promptly forget it because this is all too low-stakes to care about.

Without knowing your characters, I'd guess it's presentation. It's not hard to spot the characters who are meant to fuck. If you don't send out those vibes, you mostly don't get picked for it.

Somewhat related, people have been trying to hit on me for years by complimenting my PB's attractiveness, and not for my life can I think of a response to that. Uh... thanks for thinking someone who isn't me is pretty enough to be worth your attraction, I guess?

If you say so. I've found that people's progressive attitudes toward my gender and sexuality directly correlate to how much they can fap to them, which I guess is better than a lot of reactions but is still pretty creepy.
