    • RE: Avatar / Korra game considerations

@Runescryer said in Avatar / Korra game considerations:

While I do like the steampunk/dieselpunk feel of Republic City, I realize it's not everyone's favorite setting. And setting it after Korra's death would increase the tech further. As an option, think of setting it in the past, before Roku, Kyoshi, Kuruk, or Yangchen (Yangchen being the Avatar born to the Air Nomads before Aang and dying 345 years before the Fire Nation killed all the Air Nomads). Bonus for an earlier time setting: no restrictions on Airbenders, since the Air Nomads are still alive.

As I understand the timeline, playing before Korra would make metalbending impossible, and that would make me sad. One of my favorite things from the series was the people with a roll of cable on their belts using it in all kinds of cool ways.

I'm not trying to start a fight, just providing input in case anyone is counting votes.

The version of the Bible I grew up with did not portray the Ten Commandments as single sentences. They were whole paragraphs listing examples and exceptions. I remember being really scared that the one against killing had a provision allowing for people who break into your home at night, because until then, I hadn't realized that was a thing that could happen. Don't let your kids read the Bible.

For a few years, when talking to people, I'd preface it with "Hey, so I won't even try to describe the stream of consciousness that got me to this question, but."

man it would be cool if someone made an ATLA movie!

I'm only about halfway through the first season so far, but I gotta say, I feel like this property is brilliant as a series and wouldn't quite work as a movie.

I find myself thinking about what a MU* in 2020 might look like based on ATLA and/or the Legend of Korra.

Don't be teasing me. I need this. I didn't know I need this, but I need this.

      • Clear point in game world/timeline

I personally don't care. I'm not immersed enough in the lore that referencing specific events in the timeline actually means anything to me. If the recent history is a big deal, then sure, detail it, but otherwise?

      • Long-term central storyline(s) that all PCs can contribute to

      That would be nice.

      • Opportunities for easily grouping together PCs in scenes

Isn't that up to the players, though?

      • Wide range of backgrounds & bending abilities

Like a specific list of options to choose from? I take it the goal here is to provide some freedom while enforcing thematic cohesion?

      • Some sort of coded conflict resolution system

I personally prefer consent-based games these days. MUSHes do not do a good job of communicating the information needed about their systems, at least to my way of learning. I'd be so interested in the game I'd think of bending this principle, though.

I came in to ask a question, but first, mietze is one hundred percent correct. It is not radical or taking politics too far or whatever to cut ties with people who want you to have fewer rights than them. I hope no one in this discussion was even suggesting that and that we're just responding to abusive people in our own lives who like to gaslight us by saying their hate doesn't apply to us because we're one of the good ones, but either way, it needs to be reinforced that this is not a 'both sides' thing.

      Now.

I'm not gonna grouse about this, I promise. I just need to set this up so the question will make sense. A friend just told me about a pretty cringey exchange she witnessed, two female characters in an OOC lounge announcing to the gathered masses that their characters are fuckbuddies while perfomatively snuggling one another; the usual. But this time it occurred to me, I can't think of a time I've ever seen people who present as hetero doing that. Have any of you ever seen the players of hetero characters do the kind of aggressive "hey everyone watch me sit in my lover's lap while he strokes me" thing you see so many 'lesbians' do?

Honestly, your landlord sounds like a special type of stupid to want to evict a paying tenant when the real unemployment rate remains above 20%.

Possibly unrelated, but I've been hearing people refer to the (local) housing market as a seller's market due to the pandemic, and I don't understand how the seller has all the power when so few people have the means to buy.

Do any of you ever find that you can't focus on a big picture because you're hyperfocused on one part of it? Like, if there are two people on a screen I'm looking at, I focus on one of them. If I'm trying to hold eye contact, I have to focus on one eye. Stuff like that. Does it sound familiar to any of you?

Okay, so, it's six-and-a-quarter hundred posts as I write this and I just can't be assed to go back through the last 32 pages to check. Have we ever even talked about what representation is, or why some of us find being poorly represented upsetting?

gulyás is one of our National Dishes, the actual kind is basically a soup or stew with a ton of paprika in it and usually nokedli, which are these little dumpling things, on the side

I like my goulash super thick, so I doubt it would pass the authenticity test, but the dumplings instead of noodles sound amazing.

I’ve never seen american paprikash and please no one hurt me by showing it to me if there is one that uses like thousand island dressing and hot sauce or something

The only paprikash I've ever seen is bone-in, skin-on chicken fried in canola oil, removed to cool. Add diced onion to the oil, then a bunch of paprika (yet somehow not enough?). Return the chicken to the pan with some diced plum tomatoes, diced peppers, and chicken stock. Served over sour cream dumplings I can't make any more because I'll give myself diabetes. It was alright, but I couldn't get past knowing the sauce was by volume 27% canola oil.

@GreenFlashlight I mean, maybe she's mad that somehow she found a hat and a dress that coordinated perfectly and fucked it all up with a horribly clashing necklace? Because finding something that so perfectly matches that hat or that dress is no small feat, the colors are not common combos by a mile.

Also, that hat is more than most skirts. I mean. Seconding 'how can you even be grumpy in that hat, how?!'

Unless it's a 'lost a bet' hat. I would not totally discount that as a possibility. Or 'omfg that evil cow over there has an even larger hat and it just put someone's eye out, now I seeeeeethe with envy and rage'.

...or someone else showed up in the same hat. "And that's when I shot her, your honor."

Or she has money riding on Katniss losing the Hunger Games.

What they said, but in academic terms.

I'm not mocking you for this, I'm just saying it always gets a smile out of me when people use facts to rebut irrational beliefs that could only be held by people who deny facts. It's kind of a tragic irony thing.
