    • RE: Good or New Movies Review

@coin Things that have changed are the gates themselves and going from one point of view to an ensemble. So for example the third gate in the movie, but imagine it as Wade playing the main character of War Games, or playing as a live action version of a video game character in character. Finding the gates was different as well; finding the third one involved Rush's 2012.

As I said earlier, a lot had to be changed because of rights I suspect, as a good deal of things are now Warner Brothers references, or Spielberg references. They added a lot in though. The other major reason would be of course the VR aspect of it all. Not only was the book a PoV of one character so you got his thoughts, but because of VR the reader actually could see through the character's eyes were seeing it.

Same plot but definitely an adaptation but enough to make them each stand out as their own thing. But if you go from one to the other expecting things to be the same, you will be disappointed.

@thenomain I do! But most of the guys I know who could are nice guys and honestly I can't picture them saying assholish things to me, or any other random female they bump in to while gaming. (The one who mansplained to me, I actually forgot that he was even in the group chat, he so rarely talks, and he was one of those "I'm not voting for Trump or Clinton, I want to see the world burn!" types. He actually said that to me, so not just type, I guess.

I will slide in to your DMs if you want? >.>

(Also, along with my voice, my video card has died, so it's not like I can edit right now anyway.). 😞

@arkandel I plan on making a video on it. Well not on it, but originally on what it's like to be a female gamer / streamer from my point of view. I had an idea where I would get some guy friends to record some typical lines that happen, since I'm not a guy, but I told them ahead of time what sparked it because the woman who was fired was honest about her feelings about Total Biscuit's passing. (And obviously I can't speak for her, but having worked with him, and others who have who said the pretty much the same thing, it didn't come off to me that she was cheering his death.) But at the time I wasn't sure if I would include all this.

I got mansplained how she was wrong and how I was wrong, etc. When I just said okay, I'm not going to argue this I'm stepping out of the chat now, I got a very snippy Sorry not sorry for not being an echo-chamber, and two the guys who had said they would do the lines that they didn't think it was something they could get behind. (Them being brothers, and one of them the roommate of the mansplainer.)

I've written so many different versions of the script now, going back and forth, the only thing saving me so far has been my voice.

I just know that after all this ArenaNet isn't going to be getting any more of my money; not just for the firings, but just because of how the community is so toxic and hateful, gleefully gloating how she has been fired and someone posting on Reddit how they pretty much have ArenaNEt by the balls now (paraphrasing).

@thenomain I liked the movie. I also liked the book itself as well. It's a good adaptation. There's a lot of things they had to change, mostly for the licensing I would guess. The music probably has the most change as it played a big part in the book, and they've changed the movie to be an ensemble rather than just from one character's point of view, and they added alot more horror elements, which I'm always a fan of. One thing they changed which was a major spoiler for the book was pretty much spoiled by the poster, but it was still a surprise and it fit the movie. Spielberg kept to his promise and didn't put himself in all over the place like he could have.

Definitely do need to read the book and watch the movies as separate entities though because while the main points are all there you can enjoy each and never try the other, but still get the whole story.

I ended up seeing this 3 times because I went to the theatre for my birthday and saw it in 3D, and then a couple more times at the drive-in because it was the other movie a couple of times. Every time I see some easter egg or a character I missed the first time. Both the movie and the book are geekiness smothered in nostalgia.

Happy gunting! (If you are in the US.)

Didn't know where to put this, but Ready Player One released digitally today, and it was a good movie?

    • RE: Why did you pick your username?

When I got my first staff bit on DWR they said to pick something that suited me. I am a night owl and always have been, so I picked Insomnia when WORA was on EZBoards so people would know who I was and it carried over.

Moiren was the name of my character in table top back around the same time, so I started using it for all my game characters.

The caveat being that if you ever stop Prime, you lose access to the games as well. (Until you get Prime again.) Apparently you get to keep them! Whee!

I'm just all "But the Frogurt is cursed" girl today, aren't I?

ETA: Video listing all the Prime games, and the days you can get them (The start of the video is all the games with gold on Xbox, and PS+)

@jaded said in Cheap or Free Games!:

For those who do not mind having -yet another launcher- Pillars of Eternity Definitive Edition is free to Twitch Prime users today (July 3rd) only. Its DRM free but requires downloading the Twitch App.

Well it says July 2-4 so not just today. Also they will be adding new games leading up to Prime Day (Which is on July 16th) so there will likely be more games.

      @surreality said in RL Anger:

That is not a hero. That is a selfish, exploitative monster, desperately grasping for high ground after knowing they've done horrible wrongs.

They are also not your friend. Friends do not cut down friends that way. Cut them out of your life. And yes, it hurts, but it will hurt a lot less in the end. Relationships are a two way street, both people need to want it and work at it, that's just as true with friends as it is with lovers. And this person is not your friend. Don't waste any more time on this person, and you do you, and you do art. If art makes you happy, do it. Do it for you, your family, and for people who actually care about you. Don't do it for this person who is not your friend.

The ads have to be seen to get revenue from them, so those are the ads viewed by people with adblock turned off. But usually, or at least more recently it's more likely people pulling things in through Patreon, rather than Youtube ads with Youtube being so harsh on demonetizing ads.

People love gossip, they always have, it's just moved to the internet now.

Considering there is 450 hours worth of content uploaded to Youtube an hour, there is a lot of content out there.

Currently getting 125 Mbps down, 0.96 Mbps down on firberop. 45 down 32 up on wireless. When I use the speed test of the service provider it can't even locate my province as the closest one, but there is nothing wrong, REALLY!
