RE: Testing the Waters for Battletech Interest
@Runescryer
MegaMek is probably better for that, if you want to do off-MU simulated game combat. That's what we used when the Fan Councils was running wartime combat related to the RP off the BT forums website. -

I...I really wanted this to be a hoax. Or some kind of lie. Really really wanted it to be.Really.
Sigh.

@Misadventure
And now I am going to see if I should play it and review it. -
RE: Comparing and Contrasting the Clans of VTR2
Great synopsis on the clans Tragedy. I really liked the write up for the Nosferatu. You really hit on what made playing mine on RfK pretty damn fun and entertaining.
Gotta love the creepy.

RE: Good TV
I just dug into the Inhumans in the first two episodes last night and I saw the same thing that I saw at the beginning of shows like Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and so on.
A show produced for as little as possible at the outset and then made more inexpensive in case the series does not work out. Which is probably why they got rid of Medusa's hair, and they show cased it those two times that they did so people knew it was "magic hair;" and why NASA was in a garage and consisted of a whole 2 employees. I think this actually hurt the show far more than anything else.
Additionally, these are actors new to their roles and new to each other so I did not expect something spectacular the first few episodes going in. And reading some behind the scenes stuff I am at least glad to see the actors are dedicated to the characters, especially the guy doing Black Bolt. IF it can make it past first season growing pains and not get cancelled there is a lot of potential for the show.
I can not say the same for Gifted. I suspect that will be a 1 season run. But we shall see.

RE: General Video Game Thread
Humble Bundle has a good deal going right now for $10.00 if you like simulator games.

RE: Location, Location, Location: Where Do You Want to See Games?
Columbus Ohio. It is a surprisingly diverse and cultural city.

RE: Help with STing 7th Sea
Here's a few from the game that we were playing a few months ago:
-
Beware the green fog in the morning light, tis the breath o' lost souls and will scour a ship clean o' flesh and bone and leave naught but wood and canvas behind.
-
Succor nor rob the merchant princes. One has angered the Mother and woe be to any ship that steal from her vengeance until it be finished.
-
Flee the flag o' Captain So&So, they say he has cursed his crew in a deal with the devil for a terrible weapon that cleaves men in twain and cuts through dragons like a ship breaking a wave.

RE: Cheap or Free Games!
@arkandel said in Cheap or Free Games!:
@jaded I will do, thanks for the heads up.
As a minor correction, it's apparently the desktop version of battle.net that lets you do this (which I can't check until I'm home):
"For a limited time, players who already own Wings of Liberty (as of October 31, 2017) but have not yet purchased Heart of the Swarm will be able to get the latter campaign free by logging in to the Blizzard Battle.net
desktop app and claiming their free Heart of the Swarm gift between November 8 and December 8, 2017."
More specifically once you log in. Go to the upper right where your name is and click on the drop down and click My Gifts and you should get a new screen that displays Heart of the Swarm and you just click the Claim button.

RE: Make us love your favorite game
One of my favorite is Paranoia. A Logan's Run-esque anti-cooperative game, it is your job to navigate your six-pack of clones through the alliances and treachery of your friends and the world - where everything is punishable by death. In a zone of the wrong color from you? Death. Holding an object of the wrong color from you? Death. Are you happy? Death. Are you sad? Death. In a world where there is no right answer the only answer may be to kill everyone else to make it to the briefing at the end of the play session.

Holy crap Gany! In my experience finding people who play Earthdawn, much less know about the game is a rare treasure of a find.

RE: Book Recommendations
I am not sure if someone recommended it already, but:
The Sandman Slim series by Richard Kadrey. It is a Dresden-style supernatural noir series that was far more interesting and entertaining than I thought it would be.

RE: Cheap or Free Games!
@insomnia Well. I mean in all fairness it IS the Colonial Marines of X-Com games.

I had the best luck with that recently with Cessaly the Giant Squid Feral. Thank you to Chains, Alex, and Kay for making that pay off.
Admittedly Cessaly was some of the best RP I had. You're welcome and thank you.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
So in non-comic movie news:
I just saw Logan Lucky a day ago. And I found it to be a fun movie to watch. Not something to take seriously but it was quite enjoyable for what it was. I recommend it.

RE: Cheap or Free Games!
@insomnia
My opinion, even free this game is not worthwhile. You're better off finding your favorite body part and slamming it in a car door until you have to go to the hospital. -
RE: DMs, GMs, STs: Do you fudge rolls?
In tabletop I do it on and off as the story needs or to preserve the 'players feel like heroes' aspects if it won't compromise the rest of the story for anyone else.
As a ST on a MU. I think adhering to the rules more or less as written in the books or listed as interpreted by the MU in source - be it in help files, on a wiki, etc - is the better alternative because it saves you cries or accusations of cheating. Now. If I were inclined to fudge a roll be it to someone's help or my detriment - I'll be quite up front about it. Let the room know - and maybe tell them why. If for example I learn mid-combat my statted NPC is a bit more powerful than I anticipated for the people - and he hits someone with a death blow, I will let them know. Or give someone a non-standard roll or something.
I think it all boils down to the players and perspective though. Just be up front about it, I believe, and that saves you most of the corollary problems from rules lawyers and people who are quick to assume things.
