@hedgehog Nobody is a fan of my 'allocate hours of time each week to maintain your stats, or the XP is refunded as the muscle memory starts to fade, or you forget the maths or history or science' system. Which is fair, because it's paperwork, but if we want realism for 'it takes so long to learn a thing', we really ought to include 'it takes time to maintain the thing'.

Include the Delmarva peninsula. We have giant squirrels, the fountain of youth, and probably blackbeard's treasure. Probably. I know pirates were a big enough deal that there were laws requiring people have guns to fend them off.

@carma Off-screen is fine. I more mean 'the 40 hours a day you spend on Piano maintain your piano skills... but you have ne free time to go to the gym, so you cannot obtain or maintain an Olympic physique' without cutting into piano time... doing so means you lose some mad piano skillz

You know, a lot of pundits on Fox News and militia representatives can quote the U.S. Constitution and Supreme Court case law.
It's why I want you to be able to have specialties in skills you have 0 dots in.

RE: Weird or unrealistic gaming... stuff
@too-old-for-this Totally off topic, but signal boosting Inspirisles, the TTRPG that strait up teaches you Sign Language as you play. I am thoroughly upset I missed out on the Kickstarter for this, because it's hella neat!

RE: Star Wars: Age of Alliances
You may have noticed lately my pushing really hard for a FFG Star Wars game to spring up (with volunteering to @dig the grid and everything), in part because of a few of the policy decisions on AoA. I have nostalgia filter, since it was my first MU*, but Star Wars is kind of like Shadowrun, in that there are few options out there that are not Saga edition (as awesome as my time on Generations of Darkness, was, I have ISSUES with level-based systems in general, and d20-ish moreso). My vote for a time would be 1000 BBY, set during the war that happened riiiight before the rule of two was created, even if that means I can't have my Gungan/Ewok buddy cop adventure.
Re: Features - Phasma is played by one of the coders... when she's not busy writing code and fixing broken stuff, she's handing out plots to our First Order characters. I ran Random NPC Stormtrooper in a plot, and it got to the point that it ran so long, the three of us who hadn't passed out were begging her to step in and save the day, just so we could sleep. She did not oblige.
The rest, I couldn't tell you if they are staff or not. Luke is busy hanging out in Ireland. Rey is busy hanging out in the desert being VERY invested in not leaving. Kylo Ren is passing out plots like a boss and giving SWAG to pretty much everyone in the scene. Hux is being a ginger space nazi. Maz is providing any number of plot hooks in her castle. Han and Chewie are trying to hire some folks to move animal cargo. Leia and Poe are, presumably, doing things with the resistance in the shadows. I don't really pay attention to them.

RE: FFG L5R
@ganymede Bakeneko are the L5R catfolk, and we'd have to either do a 4e game, or kitbash our own rules for Hengoyokai since FFG has only written rules for Kitsune so far.
AS FOR RUNNING GAME! I... can't be bothered to run PLOTS, since I barely have time to RP my existing characters, but I will totally help run the math for chargen, be an XP or maybe equipment monkey, and also help to write up the NPC social web diagrams of not just whatever location gets picked, but also all of the places (making sure that the three Crane PCs from the same neighboring city aren't working at odds because they each think the Daimyo wants something different, for example).
Now I just need someone who knows how code and who wants the responsibility of plotz and hosting and whatever.

RE: FFG L5R
@reason I will break the game, but sure.
...
I'm not joking, I crashed the HSpace 5 test server like 11 times running the dumbest of commands. (Specifically, the dumbest one I can recall at the moment was when I jettisoned cargo while the ship was spinning in place. This tried to put rotational velocity onto a cargo object that did not have a place for rotational velocity to go... this caused the game to shit itself)
But yeah, I'll test chargen code when it gets ready, sure.

RE: Shadowrun Denver & New Plot
@Thenomain said:
Without adventuring, a mage is still a mage. Without shadows to run, a shadowrunner is ...
The answer to this is highly dependant on the character. They could be a SINNER and have a day job, where they Shadowrun for VIGILANTE JUSTICE or help paying for medical bills. They could be Ecoterrorists who use the funds to bankroll their lurve of Gaia. They could be rockers who use their night missions as inspiration for their music. They could be SINless and have to fight for every inch of their life, with the payday from a shadowrun being enough to give them a few nights of rest before they rinse and repeat. They could be addicted to chrome and need the money for more 'ware...
And so on. While Shadowrun has archetypes, they are not classes. Your character is your character, and you do not need to be a Bard to go and do music stuff - you only need a performance skill.

RE: Weird or unrealistic gaming... stuff
This is why big scenes should require places code, so you can +join a table and only RP with the cool kids.

@Kanye-Qwest trust all of your Darwin-is-awesome intuition. Because the only flaw with the awesome of Darwin is how her online time is limited because Australia is upside down.

RE: Balancing wizards and warriors
@misadventure Not sure if this is pro- or anti-Grey Jedi, but I'mma just take a second to Soapbox about how dumb they are as a concept, the writer who introduced them is dumb, and the film canonization of the Light Side is one of the more unforgiving sins of episode 7.

Back on topic... wait, what is the topic? It says Balancing, but WoT keeps getting brought up about how they are NOT balanced. Which... fair. Do you want to ignore theme and balance them? Do you want to adhere to theme and ignore balance? Are you prepared to deal with the complaints of the people who think you chose poorly?

Re: Turbolift code: Seems much. And I say this as someone who love love LOVES the manual HSpace flight stuff. My biggest request is to have always-working life support, because accidentally killing yourself because you ran out of fuel sucks balls.

RE: The importance of large grids for MU*
A giant GRID is potentially bad. Having a map to find where stuff is? That's always nice. Shadowrun: Denver used to use google maps to note locations. Which, in a game as number-crunchy as shadowrun, was always nice because you could tell if the building in the same gridspace was right across the street, or several blocks away when determining if folks could hear gunfire or sirens and/or determining response time.
There is something bad to be said about small grids, as well. On Exalted, there are a limited number of roomers per city, and a limited number of canon cities. So people get INVESTED in the stuff that is on-grid, as opposed to things that rightly should exist in the nothing between. This has led to people running 2,500 miles in a day to participate in plots that they would otherwise have no idea were occurring. This may have less to do with grid size, and more to do with fantasy setting ginormity.

The Mastery effect may not be in play, as this appears to be 2.0, and I think I read you can only haz 1 mastery ever until you hit Gnosis

@betternow said in MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't):
No Jedi.
Actually, the secret to Star Wars MUs is to say 'you can earn a force user character, impress us' and then watch as everyone trips over themselves to get one of the limited space-wiznerd slots. And of course, only give them out to the people whomst are lewd instead.
