    • RE: Constructive (keyword) Criticism of Arx Systems

      @sparks

      Serious question

      Why not just remove the scoreboard thus obfuscating prestige during tuning? If the issue with prestige is purely competitiveness and not the knock on effects of mechanical benefits in other systems? If mechanical benefits in other systems is also an issue than just lower the existing softcap a bit like you did for modeling individual items and outfits (although that's a hard cap).

      It seems odd that staff would halt the development of magic, possibly the most sought after system or shardhavens (automated dungeons) for the fine tuning of a system that will probably need to be retuned again if it links with magic and shardhavens in anyway?

      Don't listen to @Sab with all those chain restaurant foods. He knows a kick ass hookah bar near ASU. Get him to setup a meeting and we can all get some Middle-eastern/Turkish food and hit the hose.

      Also there are some pretty fun adult amusement things like adult go carts that go 30mph+ and indoor skydiving. Not exactly taking advantage of Arizona's natural beauty but also might not be around where you live.

    • RE: Optional Realities & Project Redshift

      I think that Crayon (and some of the other OR staff) just question my insistence in dedicating time to musoapbox. Compared to every other community we have approached for advertising this one is by far the most "hostile" or at least the most suspicious. As for engagement, as community lead he is supposed to engage with you guys. I'm just kind of hanging around because despite not agreeing with everything posted here it's not like anyone here has compared me to Hitler yet.

      As to Kushiel's Debut what Gingerlily said was true. I played with them a couple of times. I personally find their game very intriguing and I all but said if there was a crafting systems, automated combat, or some other singular automated system that I'd love to have them listed. At the time he pointed out they were working on things which may be considered automated systems to which I verified my interest in contacting them again when it was done. Hopefully I made it clear in this thread that I approached them and my intent in referencing them was showing that the barrier of entry to your standard MUSH was likely very low compared to what some people might imagine.

      As to hostility, chest-beating, and elitism. I (for some reason) was accused of being snobbish or looking down on the community early in this thread and I clearly cited references both within the thread and on the OR community that I was not only linking this community on the boards as one to check out but also bringing up MUSHes in our other games section. Text conveys tone very poorly but hopefully the -actions- taken are clear. I've engaged in discussion, we've disagreed, I've never once insulted people on this board about it, I've clearly admitted when you guys had a point I agreed with, and I try and keep this thread only active once a week unless a discussion is occurring that justifies repeated posts because I know we are not the most popular people here.

    • RE: Spirit Lake - Discussion

      @tempest

      There is a list of archetypes (roles) once those are up that's it. You can make 'alts' but not in the sense you have another character. You can make supporting cast which you just write from your existing character bit (you guys call them bits right?) and if your character dies (horror game death probable) then you can use these side roles SRs to continue participating in the story.

      EDIT: All this information refers to Horrormu to answer Tempest's question and not Spirit Lake.

      As to Brody he's more than just an article guy on OR but he just released Knee Deep and is in the middle of making an overhaul to Otherspace so he doesn't really have time to dive into discussions all over the forum. He is working with us this month on something special though, bless him.

      Having players Rainbow 6 siege ranked and League of Legends ranked I have to say that R6 has a more representative MMR. It is straight MMR you get X pts for winning or losing and move instantly no promos no prove it. The LoL promotions system always seems overly punishing to me given that in a solo queue statistically speaking you are going to have a disconnect, bot, or something once out of 5 games.

    • RE: Armageddon MUD

      @Ghost

      Armageddon has a board similar to MSB which points out disagreements with staff and the like. Discusses the game because the staff used to (could still) over moderated the official game board. Thus they can claim it's disgruntled ex-players looking to hurt the game which has been claimed before.

      @silverfox

      I don't know if I had good teachers or what but it boiled down to.

      1. Homework
      2. Busywork
      3. Things that didn't matter

      ^ these all sucked and were terrible and I never wanted to do them ever.

      1. Tests
      2. The actual learning problems
      3. Answering my what if hypothetical questions

      ^ these were great and the reason I coasted through the bulk of school because I knew the material I just didn't like having to prove I knew it all the time. Tests were great, maybe because of competition, maybe because it was a defined task, in the moment, you had to do. Homework and other self directed busywork were pretty much undoable. It caused stress for me mum, fights with my dad, etc etc.

    • RE: Armageddon MUD

      I am having this discussion on another board but the issue with online 'proof' is it's all fakeable. As we have seen in this thread. Someone had brought up oh well screen to screen.

      I figured out how to fake that too.

      Enable windows clipboard history
      Click on the userid you want to display and copy it
      Open voice call with the witness, share program or monitor 1
      go click copyid of a user
      windowskey + v
      on the way down to message line click original userid you copied earlier
      click message line
      ctrl+v

      With a little practice, you can do it without them noticing as it just takes a click and you can flit back over. In addition windowskey+v to bring clipboard history doesn't create an icon on the toolbar at the bottom of a desktop so if you're sharing program only or monitor 1 and not all monitors they cannot see it at all.

      When I pointed this out to someone advocating it's very simply to verify they then said oh well give me remote access at which point I'm like so we can't trust someones word or their screenshots or their real time screen to screen now we're saying give me remote access to your computer or it's fake?

    • RE: D&D Stew

      Not to spoil Curse of Strahd 5e but the joke is when run properly it is not when players finish the module but IF they finish the module. It is meant to be one of those campaigns that ends horribly or even in outright failure. If that isn't your cup of tea or your DM isn't comfortable playing in that headspace I would question whether you're getting an authentic experience.

      That being said looking forward to running Baldur's Gate Descent into Avernus. I think it'll be the bridge between 5e as it is now and planescape.

      Hey,

      So I'm going to take... A week (think I can do this in a week) and re-read through this entire monster of a thread. I'll then brew on it for a week, so in 2 weeks time, I'll get back to you all with any significant changes we'll be making.

      In the meantime though Crayon will continue business as usual with our weekly updates.

      😎 Talk to you in 2 weeks.

      @silverfox

      There is a darkness in the human soul a choice between never eat the last cookie and eat them all to dispose of the evidence. Which is worse leaving the single cookie as a sign to your beloved that you have snack most gluttonously or to eat it too and have it be an unspoken shame upon the household.

      Assuming you didn't take the empty oreos and wave them in their wave going wtf?!
