      @arkandel

      Armageddon MUD was based on Dark Sun, like a straight rip of the IP way back in the day. Someone sold them out to WOTC who sent a cease and desist but they never followed up and all Armageddon MUD did was remove some of the IP specific races like halflings and kanks and the like.

      I would imagine as long as you only provided SRD information in the helpfiles and encouraged players to have books or digital books you'd be set. Also non-profit yada yada. I mean streamers are entitled to run through licensed modules and content for no fees except the cost of buying the material thus allowing them to broadcast it.

      But the old that's just my opinion, no one really knows, time sink vs risk etc etc. I get it. Just my 2 cents.

      I don't know what the difference between a MUSH and a tabletop game would be especially with so many online text based tabletop roleplay options?

      As a note the two most recent modules released for 5e are actually very fun and I am running one for some friends.

      Waterdeep: Dragon Heist (1 - 5)
      Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage (5 - 20)

      These modules hand off to one another and they look great. I'm about 30% of the way through Dragon Heist and I'm enjoying the urban environment with less kick in the door and a lot more opportunity for lesser used skill checks and non-linear problem solving. The mega dungeon from the Made Mage is truly expansive with factions and strong characterized npcs for each of the over 20 floors. You easily have 1 year+ of content with these.

      Lost Mine of Phandelver is good if it's your first dnd 5e campaign also because it was one of the first modules there's a lot of user created content for roll20 and other services that can make your dming a higher quality experience with colored maps and a lot of discussion on issues with the module and suggestions on how to smooth them out.

      PS - The 1st encounter in the Lost Mine says 'in the unlikely circumstance the party dies' this is bullshit a lvl 1 party versus that encounter will almost certainly risk a TPK.

      @insomnia I didn't say they were just PC gaming, I said they were a PC powerhouse and their position in the industry was born from PC gamers. You could then surmise the bulk of people going to Blizzcon are likewise PC gamers and the bulk of people going to a set piece about Diablo are also PC gamers. It was the wrong crowd essentially to break that news too.

      I didn't say that trying to break into mobile gaming was the wrong business decision. Nor did I infer the game is a reskin. You were talking about root causes and I think the root cause is PC gamers didn't get an announcement related to their personal interests at an event likely attended predominantly by PC gamers.

      @insomnia Blizzard is a PC powerhouse. It earned its position in the industry by catering to PC gamers. The antithesis to PC gaming is mobile gaming (in many peoples minds) and also mobile gaming is fraught with predatory tactics to leech more money from the end user. The mere fact that they are announcing a major Diablo product on mobile before releasing new content to Diablo 3 or a new Diablo 4 on PC is likely the root cause of the reaction.

      TLDR - PC Master Race hates Mobile Gaming.

      You can research it further but basically, tampermonkey has community written scripts which enable comparable features to the ones you get via premium membership. Tampermonkey does not steal or exploit site weaknesses to enable these features.

      Kind of like for DNDBeyond you can get D&D Beyond Interaction and Beyond Help which uses scripts to create a quality of life improvement on the website such as dice rolling, monster health trackers, etc etc.

      EDIT - Or like a community mod for Elder Scrolls Online to update the interface and add information / functionality.

      EDIT2 - https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/210894/scripts-a-listing-of-all-available-api-scripts <---- they provide free scripts and links to other threads discussing scripting here.

      Look up tampermonkey and roll20, tampermonkey is a scripting addon which someone has written free (and legal) scripts to emulate roll20s subscriber features. This includes stuff like integrated character sheets, dynamic, lighting, etc etc.

      @Tehom

      Maybe we convince Tehom to add to his patreon page a contribution tier where he teaches an Arx / Evennia coding class once a month!

      @cobaltasaurus

      I can sympathize with you. I have tried several times to learn python and engage with Evennia. I have a game all written up, I even used to pay a coder. I have yet to break the barrier between the tools available to me and actually knowing how to use them and benefit. It's a difficult gap to bridge but maybe one of the experienced Evennia coders might be willing to make some time with you to walk you through taking a system apart and putting it back together. It's a more interactive and discussion based method and once they have walked you through the process a few times you'll be able to refer back to that experience going forward.

      Honestly it's probably what I should do, but you know... No one takes their own advice >_>

      I suggest looking at Arx systems as effective ways of implementing similiar systems. Just emulating them by writing it out yourself and understanding why you're doing each part can be hugely beneficial.

      Burn Notice is a TV show from USA where a BURNED US spy is living in Miami and doing this serialized 'mission of the week' for desperate people who are in trouble. Google it, decent show.

      Haven RPG has a design philosophy to remove human arbitration from policy. It is a toxic cesspit but it does operate with almost no staff oversight from a rules/enforcement standpoint and only 1 story runner.

    • RE: Online character sheets?

      DNDBEYOND is great for 5e and you don't need to buy any books that are not specifically for character gen because you can read almost all of them via a subscription account for 55 bucks a year.

      Met my current girlfriend through MUs. She lived in Canada flew all the way out to AZ for 3 weeks to see if we clicked. We did and she spent a year waiting on the US immigration system to approve her work visa. It's been 4 years (we don't RP together anymore) and no one has been killed yet so great success.

      Why did condemn get taken away? I vaguely remember it happening after Dawn said she arranged for people to pay the tiend even though all the Peerage picked one person per house to sacrifice or something. I could be totally wrong but that feels like the event that triggered some kind of condemn drama.

      Theories can be very useful for characters that are briefing heads of houses and voices. ESPECIALLY if they have new players and bajillion clues and insufficient journal records to help them contextualize that information. What theories I have access to all come in at 1.5-2 pages long in a text editor but that's with titling and spacing since they're broken up into subjects and quickly run through information and summarize it.
