Apos' suggestion works. I knew no one in the community where I met him, actually, but I wanted to be part of it. So I devised a character that had a reason to focus on everyone around her. In a fantasy world, she was writing a 'travel guide' and so she traveled around, interviewing anyone she met that would let her.

I made her gregarious and friendly, and would ask people questions from a list until the rp got us to a point where the questions came organically. I got SO MANY comments ooc about how delightful it was that an interview made people think about their chars and flesh them out in ways they never had before.

In another game, I took a fortune teller and would set up in a main thoroughfare and tell fortunes. Admittedly in that game I had the advantage of a secret power that would sometimes let me glimpse snippets of a character's secrets.

This anaysis is not too simple or skipping steps, though.

If your goal is "i want to stop feeling anxious and questioning whether or not the things that happen are purposeful slights", then you should definitely look into medication, therapy, etc.

If your goal is "I want to be part of x community and have the people there eager to engage with me" then the answer is just as Apos said. Put time and effort into being fun for those people to interact with. The easiest way to accomplish that is to put the focus on them: their fun, their stories, their characters, their jokes.

Quintuple-y so if those side effects include making the original problem way worse. (For instance, an antidepressant should ideally not cause 'increased depression and potential suicidal ideation'.)

Bonus if surprise snow kept the doctor's office closed so you couldn't call and get permission to stop taking said medication.

I am adopted, and I never had any information about my birth parents outside of rumor. I never looked, and after awhile I didn't even care. I didn't think about them, for years at a stretch. I took an ancestry.com DNA test because I wanted to know my mix of DNA. It's a cool thing to know! That was over a year ago, and then I got an email out of the blue about a DNA match and logged in. It had matched me to a few 3rd cousins before, but this time it said "This person is your mother". Suddenly it was on my mind a LOT. I found myself looking to see if she'd messaged me. Talking to my friends about it. Finally I decided to just message her, like hey. Did you give up a baby for adoption in x on y date. Her first response was weird. It was yes, I'm your birth mother, I don't know what you're expecting but you can message me here again if you want.

And that felt hard. Like, I wasn't EXPECTING anything? I lived 30+ years without her, I wasn't reaching out to fill some need. It felt like a rejection, and it felt bad, but I have good friends and family and they propped me back up. And then she reached out again, a month later. She'd had a very bad year of her own, and now we are very tentatively getting to know each other, and I have 2 half siblings that have also been very kind. I hope your story ends the same way, or whatever way this resolves, it's in a way that gives you some peace.

I just, like a year ago, found a dentist. I never went to one in my adult life before. But my dentist is wonderful and soft spoken and understands I am terrified and he is worth his tiny weight in gold

i mean my coworkers are mildly terrified of me. One time I left my pc unlocked and they did the chicanery that happens to everyone else (screwing with mouse sensitivity, changing my bg to david hasselhoff) and i was so mean to all of them they all know better, now. I'm sorry you can't get away with that.
