Yeah I was going to agree but actually I think I'll just mute Horrorhound and that will mostly take care of the random ones that don't make sense in the thread.

I guess being in the minority, I want to build or play a game I would enjoy, not one with the widest appeal. If they are the same thing, then cool. If not, so what?

I agree 100% with that. We (mostly) don't do this hobby of Role Playing (in all of it's forms) for money or prestige; we do it because it's fun for us. If there's no fun, why bother? Now, there's as many definitions of fun as there are people, granted, but if you find others who are having fun alongside you, that makes it all the better.

Well, let's be honest; a game without other people enjoying it with us is not very fun. I have been involved in enough of those projects that I would, myself, rather a game that appeals to more people even if it means compromising some of my own wants, because I know the pay-off can be absolutely worth it.

Having a game with too many players because you've compromised too much can also be a bad thing. Just saying 🙂

It's finding the Goldielocks Zone: ideally everything is just right.

Allowing elements that are extremely incompatible with one another can work in the short term to balloon numbers but it will create an increasingly fragile edifice that will eventually collapse as players have a slow build of resentment that will eventually boil over.

Check out the big brain on Brad!

@Arkandel Dude, I can't answer for the shitty scriptwriting this season had. Established characters basically lost all their good sense, and we just kind of had to shrug and go with it, because dragons are cool.

It was totally in character for him to beg. Littlefinger was a person comprised 70% of ambition and 30% of survival instinct. The imbalance is what got him killed, but I think it's totally in character for him to do whatever he thinks might get him a little more time to manipulate Sansa.

Not so much, thinking about it. I just don't want glaring things slapping me in the face and ruining my immersion in the story. Give me something or someone to sink my teeth into and then don't fuck it up.

It's hard for me to agree with that, looking back, but I know you're right - I read 2/3 books in because I was intrigued by some of the characters, and the magic, and wanted to see where they would go. (SPOILER: they went fucking nowhere)

And then I kept reading, and I was like 'wow, this guy sure stuffs almost every female character in a rape refrigerator REAL fast". And it just piled on and on and on. Over the course of that series: hundreds of rapes. LIterally, hundreds of rapes. One female character I found kind of interesting got mega-raped just so a dude could turn into a tiger man and go on a killing rampage. We never really saw her, again. Served her purpose!

Couple that with the fact that he introduced plot threads seemingly specifically to drop them and leave gaping holes, and every badass character was a ridiculous Shonen power fantasy, and just...I regret it so much. SO much.

      Watching/reading things you hate:

This is how I ended up reading all 9 or whatever books of the Malazan series. I hate read them. They were the worst - and i mean the WORST - fucking books that I have ever read in my life. Not only that, they were so damn terrible I'm not sure I could have even conceived of them in my worst nightmares. If I ever meet Steven Erikson, chances are high I will kick him in the dick.

They were so, so bad that I kind of killed my joy of reading. I've finished like...one book since I finished that series, and that was at least three years ago.

Don't do it, kids. I regret it so much.

Oh boy. I grew up in an extremely small, extremely white town in Texas. I went to church faithfully until my teenage years, at which point my family kind of melted down and I became the community pariah.

      I was accused of witchcraft.

I was accused of being 'in league with the devil' and leading young men astray.

A non denominational evangelical preacher was once called in to BLESS and EXORCISE a room I had slept in, at a sleepover.

I was harrassed, bullied, and sabotaged by grown ass adults from ages 14 until I moved away.

As long as there are fringe Christians who choose to be insane, hateful, dark ages LARPers, there will be a strong averse reaction to those fringe splinters of the faith, because those views are not victimless. Like any faith, creed, or ethnicity, all youc an do is live your life showing you are not like that.

ETA: i was not actually in league with the devil. Just to be clear. If I HAD been, there'd be one less small town in Texas.

Almost all the female characters are ten times better on the show, but I agree about Cersei. I think she has stayed consistent and never LIKABLE but at least understandable. The horrible things she does (and is willing to do) are always in the service of her deluded need to 'pay her debts' and be a badass Lannister like her father.

Jaime is going north. (I think.) Tyrion is going north. Cersei is certainly not buying Bronn of the Blackwater a castle. He is so going north with his bros.

@Sparks Yeah, I'm not able to take my long walks with my pupper at night, and it's really bumming me out. That's, like, our special time! And it's when I get to listen to podcasts/audiobooks.

I have HEARD (IE read, the hearing you do with your eyeballs) it's actually that Bronn's actor is still kind of crazy for her and seeing her be chummy with other people on set gets him all spun up and angry.

@Arkandel Agree with this whole post. FOR ONCE

ETA: i didn't hate the defenders. I thought it actually really redeemed Danny Rand for me because of all the winks the writers gave. Like yeah, this guy is a literal child, and also a dumbass. The fight with him and Luke Cage was delightful. I really liked the dynamic of him and Luke, and Jessica and Matt.
