@faraday hahahahahha you accurately described my first time on a MUSH. Even after years of playing MUDs the transition to MUSH was quite jarring

I second the request for spoiler tags. The game's only been out three weeks, and not everyone a) has $60 to spend on it, or b) wants to give Epic or Microsoft $60 for it. (Or even has time for it.) Chillax, y'all.

RE: Serious Question About Making A MU
@HelloProject Personally I love the FATE dice system as it does a dice+Aspects system that is flexible and usuable for any sort of tests that need to be made. They are six sided dice with two + sides, two - sides and two blank sides. Its a very simple system that rewards creativity and outside the box thinking inside the game mechanics themselves and I think it makes a great rpg system for non-combat oriented games

RE: Why do you play? (Or not.)
Why do I play Mu*'s?
Well, there are several reasons, I think first and foremost, my favorite 'video games' when I was first learning about games and the internet were text-based games. Specifically that I can remember I started this crazy hobby at the age of 8 (1999) in Achaea, Dreams of Divine Lands.
I remember how interactive it was, how you could customize your character with your imagination, and I never found a 'video' game that could replicate that same feeling of immersion and creation that I found in those early childhood text adventures. However, this was not to last as there came a point in my life where the internet was not readily available but an Xbox was, and I forgot the love of text-based games until I was 15.
At fifteen, I found (surprise surprise) Akashat, and then by extension Shangrila... which for one reason or another rekindled my love of text-based gameplay. I started returning to MUDs but I kept leaving them quite quickly. I came to realize I wasn't looking for a 'game' so to speak out of my text-based areas, but instead a place where I could create a character and live a whole different life.
It wasn't until I was eighteen and I found The Reach that I realized what I was looking for. I'd never played a tabletop RPG game before The Reach, and it taught me nWoD by necessity. I played TR obsessively for nearly 2 1/2 years straight with a few month or so long breaks depending on what was going on RL. I started to learn more about PnP RPGs in general and I will always have fond memories of TR because of it opening my eyes to what I was seeking in gaming but unable to find until that moment.
Then TR went through some management changes and rule changes and I was like yah know, I'm out. So I started running my own tabletop games over Roll20 and have not really been terribly active in the MU* community, mostly I've played a few oWoD/nWoD games, Denver (Shadowrun 3rd Ed), a BSG game at one point (and I'm attempting to join a new one now), and random MOOs and MUDs that caught my fancy, turned out to be too grindy or griefy and I left. Oh and I recently found a few Star Wars ones but they generally tend to suck for some reason, I don't know why.
In conclusion, I play for creation and customization; I play for new experiences and experimentation; I play because it's nostalgic to my childhood; I play because typing is a medium I am extremely proficient in and this is one way for me to use that proficiency.

RE: What does advancement in a MU* mean to you?
I like starting at a level higher than 'minimum' but I also enjoy having to RP for xp, provide justifications or finding PCs or STs to run things for that justification.
For me the best forms of advancement in MUSHes is not the sheet itself (though it does get awesome when you start getting pretty powerful 6-12months down the road) but instead being able to work your way up the ladder of individuals and getting involved in the more behind the scenes setup and information sharing that leads to the metaplot or player plot scenes.

RE: Pitch me your WoD
@misadventure The only thing that sucks with that idea is Geist player would only ever RP never really get a choice on what will be done, but could be the IC Angel/devil on their shoulder giving them options lol
@Insomnia I play at Fallcoast on Mage and just started a Sin-eater I plan to ST with. I also play on Fear and Loathing www.fandlmux.com
They have Vamp, m/m+, changeling, werewolf, immortals and changing breeds, 1E but has a few 2E rules in to combat -
RE: Mush Client that doesn't need downloading?
@stabby Also depending on the game they might have a webclient.

RE: General Video Game Thread
@gryphter Greedfall looks okay, it's just unpolished and with the playthroughs i have seen once you get into the second half of the game it becomes a bit tedious in the combat.

RE: The limits of IC/OOC responsibility
Personally for me this is my guidelines for the various IC positions you mentioned.
Significant IC position in a group: You should be willing to meet with other memebers for RP at least once a week to pass along IC information, if need be have a 'court day' where your PC has an open door policy. You should also be willing to do ST a miniplot or something along those lines once a month, usually handed out as an assignment from your character.
Bonded relationships: at least bimonthly you should have significant interaction with your bonded for the various needs they have of your pc. As the Bonded one sadly it is a bit more important you be free to tag along for your Bonder as often as possible and you also will have to accept the responsibility of being contacted by other players that may want to get to know your PC bc of your unique connection to your Bonded.
IC relationship: any deep meaningful relationship (dating, engagement, marriage, siblings/family) should have very open and clear OOC communication about activity avaliability and what both parties are looking for in the interaction. Both are responsible for keeping in contact and keeping each other's PCs invovled in their IC dealings on an equal level between each other. I have never had a true SO rp myself bc I know I cannot always commit to those responsibilities OOCly but this is what I would look for.
As for when to break up/get fired/etc I think two week notice is good enough to let the player know your feelings on the issue and to recieve a response. Depending on the length of time they are disappeared you might want to be ready to accept them back in even if you broke things off or fired them, think of it like a grace period of 'looking for a replacement'. In several games their theme allows for good ideas as to why they were missing without explination. Secret missions, kidnapping, got stuck in the Underworld/Shadow etc etc.

RE: Players from Bourbon and Blood, Shadows of Isildur
I app'ed a character into SoI and they denied it because 'my character's hair was too long and would have taken too much time to groom for the time period.' so I just walked away.

RE: The Death Of Telnet: Is It Time To Face The Music?
@rook said in The Death Of Telnet: Is It Time To Face The Music?:
What I'm asking is: How would you completely redo MU* so that it is not command>output in two windows? Is that even a goal here?
I am not a coder, I am ignorant of these newer playforms Ares and such, but this part right here, input>output that stuff, how would we be able to say that it is a MU of any form if it was not this way? Idk about telnet but I do know about roleplay as GM on roll20 I think we are missing only one thing and that is voice communication, but ww have Discord/skype a thousand options. But not everyone wants to do voice, voice also dramaticallycan slow down the pacing of a session. This hobby, text based rolellay, is not something that is drastically going to change, or it wouls not be this hobby. If there were no games like these I would just be forced to play on roll20 for my RP.
Tabletopping is coming back in general culture right this very second, I think the best thing ww cam do as a community is just ride that wave. Know a buddy into dnd? Show him your mush. Every person I know irl I have shown and while I have yet to convert anyone that is because it is not their style.
Reading and writing is hard, though we take this for granted as we are skilled in it and enjoy it as this is our hobby, our lives, but others may not like to read, or they do not like to type. If we remove input>output what do we become? A video game. Do you know why I do not play most video game rpgs? Limitations on immersion, I CANNOT go where I want when I want or attempt anything at any time. I am stuck doing what a coder has decided is avaliable to do, my character is a representation of someone else's imagination.
I don't know if the hobby is dying, it seems about the same size and difficulty to find games as it did almost 20 years ago when I started, what I have seen is a migration away from the rp based systems (mush/mux etc) to muds or forum play because of reasons stated earlier in this thread. If it is dying? Enjoy the ride, we have one life. If it isn't? Grab a friend or two and try to get them to sit down with you as your friend and play with you once a week or something.

RE: Interest check: WH40K Only War
@seraphim73 Oh I thought classic was based on age, iirc Necrons are the things that are as old as the Old Ones or something like that.

RE: Interest Poke - Fallout Canada
@rizbunz would love it if is a faithful adaption of fallout lore and in some way explores that overarching idea presented in all the games which is pretty perfect for a small playerbase

RE: Genosha (Interest Poll)
Honestly my main prpblem with this post is the location. This is an advertisement forum. You know, for games looking for players? We have a couple side forums that can be used for this! Also I just totally agree that putting up an interest check for another idea while still in early dev of previous interest check looks flaky af you just shouldnt do that.

RE: How did you discover your last three MU* ?
I have seen games using the click links system more and more lately and while personally I find it gimmicky I bet it does help newbies ALOT

RE: Genosha (Interest Poll)
@rizbunz there has been a half dozen or more interest checks (one of them my own after noticing the trend) put into the game dev area
