@seraphim73 That's being slightly reductive to the point that @Kanye-Qwest was making. The point she was making is that @Auspice /did/ use it in a very flippant, sarcastic manner in another thread immediately after telling one thread that it was stupid not to have realized another post she made wasn't made as a moderator.

Her point wasn't about the use of MOD VOICE in and of itself.

You know that point where you hit problem overload? Where your problems have increased exponentially to where you can't fix one problem because of this problem, but you can't fix that problem, because of this, which can't be fixed because of the first problem?

Yeah, I've hit it. rip me.

I think you guys are really twisting @Sunny's post and @Sunny's words for the purpose of your own narrative, and I had to comment to say so.

The whole focus of her original post in the thread was on the idea of the conspiracy and the staffers on that game. Not on moderation here.

@tez man, that link on tone is so good. Can we make it required reading for all staffers everywhere.

I quit my first ever MUSH after like, my third scene. It was one of the Kushiel games, and I created a character that I realize now is cliche on MU*s but as a baby roleplayer, I did not realize then was cliche. After my third scene, someone talked down at me about my character being cliche OOCly, joined in by the other person in the scene.

I never logged back in. I am surprised I even tried another MUSH after that, to be honest, but I did and I found good people on an xmen game that took me in and helped me learn good habits.

@greenflashlight said in Reporting Roadblocks: Denial, Fear, Shame, Guilt, Embarrassment, etc.:

I just think when the conversation shifts from "how can a game make reporting more likely" to "staff needs to take X action no matter what," we need to acknowledge that we're no long talking about nor prioritizing the same things.

Eh, no. It's not exactly different priorities and saying that it is is taking away, I think, the fact that @Kanye-Qwest is referring to. In that, if someone is doing something Not Ok to you, then they are probably doing the same thing to multiple people.

I know for a fact that the person that I reported was also doing the same shitty things to a handful of other female players, because they told me, before and later, after the fact.

And honestly, if you don't want anything to happen to the person from your reporting, then you still aren't /reporting/ the behavior. The conversation is still 'how can a game make reporting more likely'. Your conversation is a different one. Your conversation is 'how can I be a supportive friend and just listen to someone's shitty experience', which doesn't require it being staff or not.

I am also out. Not that I was contributing that much since my initial responses, but I think it's better if I step away.

I think if this is the way it is going to be presented, and going to keep being presented especially as more and more people step in, that there was some knee-jerk attack around a harmless misunderstanding that was, honestly, hurtful to me, then I am going to have to be honest that I am never going to be happy with the situation. I don't want people to feel like I am moving goal posts on them, and I can understand that can be frustrating, so it is better that I leave.

I think it's unhelpful to assume that we're stupid because we don't know what is being moderated or not. I can appreciate people's concerns about my story getting obfuscated, but when someone speaks up to share their RL experiences, it shouldn't matter where. They are choosing to share them there, and it can feel very silencing for a mod to come in and say 'not here'.

It is the same thing that happens in RL. You can't share your stories at work, because that is inappropriate. You can't share your stories at a party, because it will bring down the mood. Then people wonder why no one ever hears the stories that we all collectively have.

    • RE: Regarding administration on MSB

I think that people who think all of MSB is just a trashcan fire are going to keep thinking all of MSB is a trashcan fire, no matter the moderation. People that post confrontational, asshole-ish things are going to keep posting that.

What really concerns me is us in the middle. I shared a RL story in the Hog Pit on a thread. It was a hard RL story to share, because it is shit that people rarely talk about because we're conditioned not to, but it was relevant to the discussion. I was met with a moderator saying not to share RL stories on the thread. I have no way of knowing if she was speaking as just another poster or as a moderator.

But man, it struck me wrong, guys. Not because I dislike @Auspice. Not because she was moderating. There is no clarity. There's no sense of that being done for the community. It was bad mojo.

      @arkandel

@meg said in United Heroes is Literally Worse than Hitler.:

There is something constructive to be discussed here, and that is what is being moderated and what isn't. What is within rules, and what isn't.

And when are mods speaking as mods, and when are they speaking as just another person.

Yes, the board asked for more moderation, but I do feel like it's people in the middle that are getting caught out in an unfair way. People like @Tempest are always going to post what they are going to post, but the rest of us, well. We could benefit from some clarity.

And this isn't about disliking any mod. I hope that @Ganymede and @Auspice know that I like them. I like @Arkandel. But I dislike things being unclear.

Please stop throwing a 'You asked us to' at us every time we have questions. Not all of us are using a personal vendetta card.

But we have questions. And these questions /do need answers/.

    • RE: Your Opinions of These Games

The thing that I noticed with Guest Stars at F&L was that they were played just like PCs. They didn't gain XP or PK, no. (But they skirted that last rule a lot, and did a lot of things that should have /invited/ people to PK them, but given their sheets, well.)

But, my main issue with them is that they /could/ and /did/ dominate plots. At one point, it felt like Luxor, the vampire staff, was just running a plot to show off the sheet of his vampire Guest Star.

Which just felt very meh, on top of his tone issues and inability to take any feedback on his tone, and playing favorites.

I liked the rest of the staff and the players at F&L. I would actually recommend checking it out, since I think people can enjoy it. Just not me, apparently.

Never tried Fate's Harvest because people I trust told me to stay away from anything with Spider involved. And I trust them, so.

The other games, never heard of.

I think, in all of this, some of us are losing sight of the way this forum is good to each other. The Hog Pit gets nasty. Ads get flamed. Civil discourse often gets into circle jerky, arguing against the person posts.

But look at Tastes Less Gamey. It is obvious that we can be a friendly community there. We make jokes, share our lives. Hell, we have helped someone move and someone recover from a car wreck.

We're not all bad, is all I am asking people to keep in mind.
