Do you enjoy this group and do they have good snacks? I might be willing to try and merrily go along with something that isnt totally my cup of tea if I enjoyed the company. Otherwise I would nope out (nicely). No shade at math for fun or whatever but it just isn't my bag in a RP game tabletop.

RE: The Savage Skies - Discussion Thread
@Groth I think it's possible that one could ask people who want to play Japanese characters to understand that part of the culture is no longer in play (Just like there is a pretty huge shift in people's thinking about the rights of women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ folks). And again, maybe that IS coming, rulings wise.

RE: The Savage Skies - Discussion Thread
If you are talking about movies from a Chinese perspective in American media in particular, I think the answer is obvious. Racism, the fact that the Chinese were (yes, I know rather incorrectly) seen as being just as good as part of the USSR during the cold war, the fact that American society always loves to shit on people we see as "losers" of the conflicts we're interested in, ect. I find it interesting that someone would be surprised that we have no popular movies that uplift the Chinese perspective on anything.
Personally, I think the Koreans should be pissed that they're in the same boat, except for they're actually allies of the US, and certainly suffered from the same sort of predations from the Japanese. But oh wait, that got whitewashed because then we could blame all the North Korean actions as Chinese inspired ones, yet again making them the bad guy and deflecting from Japanese responsibility.
This isn't surprising (even though it's gross).
However, it's really not relevant to this particular game.

RE: RL Anger
There is a guy walking around downtown in the city that my kids' high school is in (next town over from ours), with a giant swastika and holocaust denial slogans on his signs. We do have a big problem with bigots in the northern (well and southern too really) seattle eastside burbs, usually not visible in the well heeled areas because they prefer to be more genteel about it (unless you mention native american treaty rights, quickest way to get someone to go off on a racist tirade in WA state).
I have seen this guy around usually passing out leaflets, not with a sign. Now that he is more visible, people are expressing "shock" in the neighborhood facebook page, and I guess the new talking point is "it is okay to show nazi symbols and be a holocaust denier because, you know, WWII was fought to preserve free speech!"
It's been a really shitty 2 weeks, it is going to be another very stressful 2 weeks ahead of me, and honestly I just realized today in my reaction to this stupid ass bigot that I am probably the most depressed but functional I have ever been in my life, which is saying a lot.

XP Rollover
Ooops! I always forget that the new format means that no matter what you're looking at, the post at the bottom of the screen stays to it's original purpose!
Anyway.
I think that XP rollover, especially full XP rollover, is something that has significant negative impacts on a game for several different (and probably unintended) reasons. I understand that the purpose of it was to "lessen the blow" for losing a PC, but I'm wondering if others feel similarly that it doesn't really do that and creates even more problems over time.
I think I support XP rollover for PCs that are killed off when that was not the player's original intent.
In all other cases after seeing some of the ramifications on TR, I think I'd be leery of allowing it otherwise.

RE: RL things I love
I do not have allergies so normally my worst asthma attack of the year comes with the first upper respiratory virus that I catch in the fall (usually in october!).
Unfortunately due to use of outdoor sealant in my bank branch (with little air circulation to help cure it) due to an incompetent contractor that we had to deal with for a couple of weeks it kick started my asthma, and not having proper meds compounded it like whoa.
I feel stupid for not going in sooner, but glad I was able to avoid getting admitted. I have not had the oh shit I'm going to die feeling since I was in my 20s, and I hope I dont have to experience that again any time soon!

RE: Twinking in RP MU*
Yep. It's why I try to make sure there's at least 1 other person who at least professes interest in sharing STing now! There are people who are just fine with taking on all of it, but I find I enjoy getting to play with everyone (including any regular STs) on their PCs, in addition to STing, though I do very much enjoy the latter.

RE: RL Anger
I didn't know anyone did promise rings outside of the young to mid teen years? Back in my day that was what they were--something that was given because you weren't of age to do the real thing (so still in high school or the equivalent, under 18. Well, mostly if the girl was under 18 I guess).

RE: A bit of trouble on Firefly
@Scissors I think it's both. A lot of people probably don't think they are "as bad as" their behavior. But yeah, I do think in this particular case, he enjoys provoking reactions more than playing/participating. There are a lot of people like that, really.

Today has been a really shitty day in just about every way imaginable, except for at least my 5 year old is still adorable and my teens are very sweet to me.

RE: A Post-Mortem for Kingsmouth
I don't think there's too much of a risk for RfK players going to another game and demanding that things work there how they did on RfK. While there were /some/ WoD noobs, the majority of people were pretty well versed in huge multisphere games, which is why they got hooked on this new, different one.
Virtually all of the players that I talk to regularly have the mindset that either they are going to wait for awhile to play vampire because they know that they can't get that same experience elsewhere (not because all other places are horrible, but because of RfK's unique setup and somewhat against the grain staffing policies), or they're going to have a sandbox for a small group and minimal expectations for affecting the sphere but being open to it.
Of course, you DO have the typical loudmouth entitled asshats (though I would argue most of those folks were/are already playing at other places/are no stranger to the community even before the closure).
I think that the very strict staff PC policies were the major difference that made some kinds of player/staff issues relatively low on the game. With staff not being allowed to play PCs that could take on major roles or politicking, I think that enabled people (once they realized that was true) to relax a bit about assumptions/worries that staff were out to fuck over other people in favor of their own PCs or related PCs. I noticed more degradation of that as the staffing policies seemed to relax, and I do think it's pretty telling that ultimately it seems to have been the prospect of further relaxation of those policies that seems to have prompted the decision to shutter. I know there are members of the community that very very VERY much disagree with me here, but I do think having such very 'draconian' policies contibuted a huge amount to the positive environment. Though I also agree with others that' s probably one of the most difficult to sustain staffing models. That game was very PvP, and when you have staff who are privy to seeing the incoming scene beats and other tracking info, so that they do know what's going on (or what players are reporting about their PCs), I think it's super important that there's a line of separation there. When that started to get murky, discomfort rose. In my experience, and my observation. I also think that the 1 PC policy per person, while "unpopular" in the larger community of WoD places, was pretty important as well, and would also be very hard to replicate beause people are "spoiled" the other way. (And arguably, this makes much more sense on a multisphere game, to allow more than one alt).

RE: The Work Thread
@Aria I am used to getting screamed at (it happens like...at least once every few weeks). Often when people actually come in they are in highly stressful situations, so it's understandable and not personal--and usually by the time I am done processing their transactions/getting things fixed either at my station or by calling on their behalf, ect. they've calmed down. Some even apologize. But this guy, with each problem I solved, and then each problem the banker solved, just kept getting louder and more trying to almost physically intimidate us. I was actually pretty close to pushing the panic button but then he abruptly took off (I bet he heard the 911 call, I didn't realize that our other customer had called until he was out the door). I am not a super woo woo person, despite being an LMT, but this guy had seriously scary-aggressive vibes. It really did remind me of someone in the middle of serious, serious road rage. But the really demeaning way he spoke to everyone even before the screaming started--you know those people who really are horrible to every server in a restaurant/cashier or clerk in a store? That was him except for like already 10X worse, and it's been a long time since I've had someone physically puffing up and trying to invade space. I'm still kind of freaked out about it!
Oh well, he has a note in our system now. Hopefully if he ever does that again regardless of what branch, he'll get his accounts closed and sent on his merry way. Maybe then he'll check his mail for his cashiers check.

@Tempest said:
I'm gonna roll my eyes at the 'tee-hee there was so much going on there was no time for TS'. The reason RfK was so popular for ghouls/mortals is that they could make sex-slave fuckbunnies who, despite only rarely RPing outside of their owner's bedroom, could pretend to be "useful" or brag about their "allies/etc" and roll dice at jobs and off-screen stuff (keyword there being off screen). The same attitude goes for many of the vamp players too.
If you chop off everything after bragging, then isn't that the most common thing said about ghouls, everywhere?
You can make a fuckbunny anywhere, and most of the time that is kind of the most meaningful contribution you can make as a PC (social play), unless you're a PrP runner or something.
There will always be super/+ who do nothing but fuck or relationship drama, or never come out of their house, ect. I will say that I actually caught some people who I thought primarily only did that elsewhere out doing things (even RPing!) on RfK.
I am an active, social player who likes to run plots. I've never had a hard time getting lots of rewarding RP elsewhere. However, my experience on RfK was the opposite of my experience on TR and other places. Probably this is in part because I had over the years become less shy about opening requests and shit like that, and being a little more willing to cold call people for plot involvement oocly as well as ICly. But I believe it was also because ghouls/mortals were more functionally useful than they have been elsewhere. People are fond of talking a great game of how personal story is very important but I do think that PCs are treated with more respect OOCly (sadly, IMO, but I'll take what I can get!) when they are also valuable by the numbers and in a concrete way.
Also, while I respect that you had a very horrible experience there, I think you're conflating "here are the things I think were done right" with "every other game is WRONG." Which isn't the same thing at all.
@vanderlylle I think I could have lived with a couple of RP rooms (so that folks weren't bounced from 'public' areas when a scene had progressed or there was a plot scene where newcomers couldn't join in. It was pretty refreshing to have limited proxies too (though immediately coming from TR I grumbled about it at first), it did seem to improve attentiveness in scenes (though maybe this was just my perception). So I don't have strong feelings about that aspect.

I need brain candy reality TV shows
The trashier the better.
I am not a fan of Real Housewives or The Bachelor.
But to give you an idea of what I do love:
Anything Gordon Ramsey (But I've seen them all, UK and US)
Here Comes Honey Boo Boo (all time favorite until I found out about the pedo)
Hoarders (tied for all time favorite)
Married at First Sight
90 Day Fiance
Judge Rinder (not most other judge shows though)
NightwatchAnyone got any suggestions? I'm expecting a pretty stressful next two weeks at work and this is how I often unwind when I get home for an hour or so. If you don't want to out yourself as a trashy tv person you're welcome to PM me.

RE: Tips for not wearing out your welcome
@A-B I am glad to hear that you're going to respect an ask here of you not contacting them. Unfortunately some people who use other platforms to make contact with people after they've been banned do /not/ respect that.
I think in the future if someone is not responding to you, it's better to leave them alone, rather than making it seem like you're chasing them down, which is nearly always going to make someone defensive, especially if your last contact was not a pleasant one and they had to remove you from somewhere.
No one owes you a private message back, even if you would very much like one. And if you rush it, the likelihood of an outcome in your favor decreases.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
I have no clue how old y'all are, but um. I never had acne as a teen or even while pregnant/postpartum but starting in my late thirties I started to have minor blemishes out of nowhere and started to react to cosmetics very differently). It lasted for a few years and then finally disappeared for other kind of even more annoying things. (Not hot flashes yet at least). I still break out more than I did as a teen but luckily not quite as often as I did!

RE: Tips for not wearing out your welcome
Also, I am thinking the topic of how to avoid banning in general due to behavior is porbably not topical to this thread. I'm in the middle of cooking dinner right now but it might get split off/moved.

RE: RL Anger
@TNP yes we are on it. The church is handling the media, the rest of us are converging on state and local representatives including city officials.

my favorite sisters, in a very different world
I wish there was a fantasy generators that allowed same gender and/or non romantic pairings! But this captures them well in spirit I think. <3!
