I could see that being good for a game where one or the other aren't playable, but doing that and having both spheres as PC's would inevitably cause more problems than the whole thing is worth. Antagonist PC's, whether they're playing as known Antagonists or just being an opposition, rarely ends well. Every game I've seen allow them ends up dropping them within months because inevitably somebody gets approved for a PC that's only there to piss in everyone's cornflakes, IC -and- OOC.

RE: Third Sphere Question.
@Creepy Are you talking just a grown-into cultural distaste or a weird switch-flip where you become Purified and just suddenly you REALLY don't like that guy over there with the strange glyph 'tattoos' peeking out from under his shirt?

RE: The State of the Chronicles of Darkness
I don't give a damn about the Clan politics, that still exists in nWoD. My beef is with the lack of a playable evil faction within the nWoD setting.
No, I really don't. You will NEVER see a Brood/VII only Vampire sphere in nWoD, whereas you could and did see solely Sabbat Vampire spheres in oWoD. And no, its not up to the ST. Its up to whomever made the game in the first place. Refer to my previous statement about Sabbat spheres. There is no Sabbat choice in nWoD.

RE: The State of the Chronicles of Darkness
I believe the 'larger organization/faction' he speaks of in that context would be the Praxis as a whole.
My issue is more that unless there is player/staff support for it, you cannot play an 'evil' vampire on an nWoD MU*. With oWoD MU*s there was the chance or option of either having both Cam and Sabbat as playable, or one or the other. So you could, theoretically, have a wholly Sabbat game. This option simply does not exist in nWoD. There's no for sure 'evil' faction that you can play.

RE: Poll: Did you pay for most of your nWoD books?
I mass downloaded every single nwod book. >.> I haven't PAID for a WoD book of any kind since owod.

RE: The State of the Chronicles of Darkness
What I miss of owod Werewolf and Vampire is Pentex and Sabbat. God do I miss those. In nwod, God help you if you want to play a 'bad' vampire. You will be staked. Then burned on a bigger one.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
Hey! I lived on the western edge for awhile! Not my fault my ex husband ended up being a jackass man-child. >.>
@silentsophia I've seen it happen. Lived in Abilene for awhile. We had an Easter with hail the size of baseballs. The winter that had just passed had seen FEET of snow on the ground. Everyone lost their everloving MINDS.

@Luna I too live on the Gulf Coast. Just the eastern side.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
Does that mean I can point and laugh at all since I've seen everything but an earthquake and a tsunami? XD Blizzards, torrential rains, hurricanes, tornadoes, below freezing temps, crazy high heat and humidity indexes... the US is a scary place to live for weather.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
@thebird I feel that pain. I grew up in Iowa, where school didn't let out until nearly the end of June because of snow days that piled up over the winter. I now live in Florida, where the heavy coats come out when it hits 50 degrees. People freak out at the smallest sign of weather. If there's prediction of heavy rains, people lose their minds and assume that it means hurricane or floods and they start doomsday prepping. In Florida. Where there's quite often rain all day. Like today! This is why I won't work in the food industry anymore. People be cray, yo.

RE: Cheap or Free Games!
The entire Disney catalog of games is 50% off in Steam until March 2. I may be picking up LEGO PotC and Disney Universe (one of the few games my youngest could get me to play with him for extended periods of time). Not sure about PotC, but I know Disney Universe is a multi-player optional game and is surprisingly fun and challenging.

RE: What's That Game's About?
@ThatOneDude Hope you're still talking about TR... that's the only place I've got a vampire. Never picked up B&S.

RE: What's That Game's About?
Vampire is fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun right now. A bit on the slow side, but we're making our own fun.

RE: What's That Game's About?
@Arkandel Oh absolutely. No amount of book say-so will stop people from getting uppity over 'touching their cake'. That the 'cake' in question isn't theirs to hoard, of course, will be completely ignored.
-
RE: What's That Game's About?
@Arkandel You would think so... but not necessarily. There's mechanics for Mages, Vampires, and Werewolves in the Hedge... and speculation of what happens to the ones that don't come back. My favorite is the theory that briar wolves are werewolves that went nuts and got lost in the Hedge. BUT, the books have stated that other supers have come and gone from the Hedge. Its rare, but it happens. Hedge Gates are hilariously easy to wander through on accident.

Amen to the tea thing! I had to learn that when I moved to Florida. XD That very first sip of tea lead to a comical reaction.

RE: What's That Game's About?
Whatever works! I like to think of Gentry as alien as well, and trying to define them with a sheet does them an injustice. They should be able to pull off stunts that simply don't exist in the books.
-
RE: What's That Game's About?
I'm not saying 'deeper' Hedge as in some known place between the Hedge and Arcadia... just... deeper in TO the Hedge. As in, you can wander for DAYS before reaching Arcadia. The longer you're there, the more you lose. And the less likely you are to find your way back out.
And not being able to empathize with your slaves doesn't mean you have no empathy at all. Slave owners way back when had no particular concern for their slaves, doesn't mean they had no concern for their own family or other white folk. They were simply.. viewed as completely separate species. Slaves were considered little more than animals, sometimes less so. Hell, they showed more concern over their crops than their slaves. So its not unlikely that while a Fae could have the Empathy skill, they would not have any for their captives.

RE: What's That Game's About?
From what I can tell from re-reading at least the core Changeling book... Durances can and do vary quite a lot, and while Keepers may not be CONSCIOUSLY monstrous or horrible to their captives, they ARE alien beings incapable of empathizing with their charges. So its possible that some Changelings had Durances that weren't completely horrible and terrifying, but they likely were at some point dissatisfied enough to attempt leaving. There's also mention that some Durances (rare and puzzling ones) where a time limit WAS imposed on the bargain between Fae and human, or where the Keeper simply released them apropos of nothing.
What makes you Changeling is making the initial bargain with your Keeper just so that you can -survive- in Arcadia, as nothing of Arcadia exists outside of glamours and Contracts and complicated oaths woven by the Fae. According to the book, without making a bargain with your Keeper, even surrounded by food and water and a warm campfire, you would eventually die from thirst or starvation or cold.
The Thorns DO rip at the soul and humanity of a person, but that happens both upon entering and leaving, and the deeper a person travels, the more fucked up things get and less likely they are to find their way back out without luck or help. It also says, however, that most who venture in on their own are able to heal the damage done to the soul over time, once they're out of the Hedge. Changelings can't because they made that bargain and thus carry a part of the Fae with them always and forever, amen.
