@Derp That's not the case, tho? Banned people's posts aren't automatically purged when they're banned. You can find plenty of posts by banned peeps.

RE: RL things I love
@arkandel Yeah, this is becoming illegal in a few places, and a lot of places have stuff in the works. I know MA and NYC have passed stuff making it illegal, although I don't recall if it's fully rolled out either of those places.
FOR THE RECORD, I fully support colleagues sharing their salaries as they wish to help smash wage gaps!!

RE: General Video Game Thread
I started Return of the Obra Dinn which is SO UNIQUE and INTERESTING, it's by the guy who made Papers Please which is similarly unique and fascinating, but I couldn't even make it an hour before getting too motion sick. I am REALLY BUMMED and might give it one more shot after playing with some settings because even just that one hour was fascinating. It's weird because motion sickness is not usually a problem I have with video games!!

Wow. I wasn't expecting such an overwhelmingly helpful response and so quickly too!
First of all, thank you everyone for your input and guidance. It is extremely appreciated.

- How customizable is the system? Like say for instance I wanted to run an nWoD 2.0 game (>_>), is it feasible? Is the current release stable enough for my coder to tinker around with tweaking this?
AFAIK you can do anything you want as long as you know Python. It comes with very little built in out of the box.
- Wiki! I've been looking at the games hosted, and they all have wikis that seem similar in design. Is this powered by a 3rd party wiki something akin to mediawiki? Or was it hand coded to suit Evennia?
There's a default website template, which is why a lot of the websites look similar, but they're not wikis.
Thank you! You hit the nail on the head with both of these responses. Especially about the webpage/wiki. I just assumed it was some kind of wiki because of all the integration Arx has. No wonder it works, it's not done in media wiki. XD
We have a player-run wiki for Arx here. It has a regular data pull from Arx's server -- I think hourly? We mostly made it so that it would be easier to write up player guides and also organize some of the data that the Arx website wasn't really offering at that point. I don't think we've had trouble with the data pull, but I also wasn't the one to set up that part. I managed the templates and such.

Seems like if we're going to try to preserve/archive things and not lose any data, figuring out a way to migrate the DB from Redis to Mongo is the way to go.
Not the only way to go.
For example I posted a link above with instructions to migrate nodeBB's database from Redis to another platform for free.
The cost in that scenario is not money but someone's time.
It's only free if you have someone with both time and expertise (and is someone who would be generally trusted by the administration) to do it. Instructions that look basic and easy to one person with fluency in the systems aren't always basic and easy to those who aren't used to working in the command line, etc.

Kevin Spacey, Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck, Louis CK....that last one hurts me. I was a HUGE fan for years.
You know what bugs me about Louis CK? For starters that he knew better - one of my favorite bits ever was one about rape, dammit.
But the other thing is... he's a really good writer, and his apology was pretty accurate and spot on, so I don't know how much of it is him and how much it's him trying to salvage his career. Other celebrities have PR teams, but the difference between some MBA drone and a top-notch writer is immense.
He could've used a better PR team to stop repeatedly talking about how much the women admired him.

RE: MSB Peeves
Coke has a whole museum there, not just bottling and whatnot. It's got the historical caché of having kind of invented modern soda, which is probably the reason for the difference.

RE: RL things I love
I work in theatrical marketing, but we use a really stupid ticketing platform that doesn't allow me to place a tracking pixel on our ticketing pages. (Bit of code that helps track from when someone clicks on something online and follows through to eventually buy a ticket.) Super duper valuable for being able to say whether or not your online advertising is having a positive return on your investment. One of the BIGGEST BENEFITS of digital advertising is SUPPOSED to be that you can track EXACTLY how much money you're making off of it. The fact that I can't do this right now (without upgrading to the newest version of the ticketing platform for, you know, around $40k) is MADDENING. We're likely going to switch our ticketing platform after next season, at which point that issue will be FIXED, but for now I'm having to work around it.
Facebook has an option to let you basically upload purchase data and they do their best to match it to people who have seen or interacted with your ads. For the first couple weeks I started uploading data, it didn't match to any events on their end. But in recent weeks, it's finally starting to populate, and I can now give ACTUAL CONVERSION NUMBERS on some of these ads. It probably sounds dumb, but this is SUPER DUPER EXCITING for a marketer.

RE: Reactions to 08192015 Update
The reality is the forum software itself needed to be updated, and the new version has a new look/skin. But when you have issues as Miss D pointed out, you kind of have to update the forum version that likely has fixes in place. Having issues with user's caches isn't the new version not working that needs to be tested out, it's the reality of literally any updates on the web. Testing environments don't fix the need to do hard refreshes and sometimes clear caches.
People are being really nasty on this thread, wtf.

RE: ANNOUNCEMENT: We are moving.
If you are accessing from the IP because the domain isn't pointing to the new site yet, you can help speed up the process with this:
chrome://net-internals/#dns
<-- this does half the trick (if you're like me using Brave, just replacechrome
withbrave
and it works. not sure about non-chromium browsers
ipconfig /flushdns
(Windows) orsudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
(Mac) <-- this does the other half of the trick from a command prompt -

@Glitch Okay so maybe that percentage of the population should try to chill a little more instead of telling moms to go feed their kids in areas they deem "appropriate." The solution is normalizing the whole thing, not putting it in a closet.

Having now experienced the +hangouts code on F&L, the thing I wish it more easily told me when I hit +hangouts/all is: a one or two word descriptor of what kind of place it is
I didn't have enough room for that. Well, I could kill the 'Details' column for it, and just put a checkmark. Though I do have a very small amount of room left over for it. Hm. Until I kill that giant 'Details' column. Hm.
Hm hm hmmm. Hmmmmmmm.
Speaking just as one user among many, I'd personally rather have more basic info at a glance then an indicator of whether or not there's more detail. I ended up going through every single +hangout entry on F&L just trying to get the basic lay of the land re: the grid and figure out some public spaces I could reasonably throw my PC at. In my case, I'm not looking for rooms where people already are; I'm looking for rooms where I could be.
