@insomnia I am using Xsplit, which apparently does have weird issues with audio pickup. I will try other options before making another attempt because it is obviously not working.
I use Xsplit too, and I did have to nudge my system audio down to like 50% in Xsplit's settings, but after that it worked great. (OBS Studio is also great software, it's just that I really wanted Xsplit's built-in capability to show my video and also my Twitch chat stream on my game as I played.)

RE: General Video Game Thread
My system sounds are all the way down to like 50% in my stream settings (versus 100% for my mic).

RE: General Video Game Thread
@packrat When I started streaming a little, I had to turn down the game volume in my stream software a goooooood deal (and keep my mic volume at 100). Your voice is still pretty hard to hear.

RE: Real life versus online behaviors
@arkandel said in Real life versus online behaviors:
My policy in general is to try and not think of what someone might be like in real life at all. I mean... unless I'm going to be meeting them (and I won't) it just doesn't matter. What I perceive online is, for all intents and purposes, that person.
Yeah, I mean, what else are you gonna do? It doesn't matter what a person is like IRL if they're being a jerk in your online community.
@seraphim73 said in Real life versus online behaviors:
I agree with @Roz in particular that not treating online interactions as "real" is a warning sign, but I also think that in some cases it's the result of just not thinking things through rather than a conscious choice to treat other people as lesser because you can't see them. That being said, in most cases, I think it's just treating people as lesser because you can't see them.
Yeah, I mean, there is a wide scale here. Someone can be doing stuff just because they're thoughtless about it, and that's still jerk behavior, even if it's not intentionally being a jerk. But people like that who aren't really trying to be jerks should be able to shape up or ship out of an online community if told that behavior isn't welcome. I can call someone a jerk who is doing jerky things even if they're not intending on being malicious. But I will think of people with malicious intent as serious mega-jerks. This is a scientific scale.

RE: Real life versus online behaviors
@apos That's a pretty good delimitation.

RE: Real life versus online behaviors
I think people can and do behave super differently online vs in-person. Maybe they, like your friend, just don't think of online as "real." Maybe they just like the freedom that the internet affords them from consequences for being an asshole.
But I do think that treating online as if it's a free-for-all where you don't need to worry about your behavior is, in and of itself, asshole behavior.

9/10 straight women agree: Happy boners best boner. Angry boners come in at number two, and way at the bottom of the pack, nobodies favorite: Sad boners. Poor, poor sad boners. No body wins with a sad boner. T-T
A sad boner shouldn't even be in this thread. Monsters.
Better take out that Kylo Ren gif, then.
I can't speak to the disposition of his boner. Sadly. SADLY!
The entire personhood of Kylo Ren is a sad boner.

@mr-johnson
I honestly don't think a playable prologue is a terrible thing, or that staffers can't have some kind of vision for their stories. They shouldn't be totally pre-planned, but I also think plots with NO direction tend to be frustrating in their own way. Like, don't let one terrible PRP run by someone who's clearly a moron make you think a loose outline is some kind of source of evil.Yeah. It's not that there's no place for scenes or plots like this, but you have to just manage expectations. You want to be clear with players up-front at what they'll be participating in. People who are totally not cool with that type of plot will just self-select out.

Gimme Jedi and Sith.

RE: Star Wars?
@wildbaboons That's not actually an enticing sell. I'm not particularly interested in like -- a sub-grid of a game focused on something else? That seems silly.
-
RE: Star Wars?
@auspice Yeah, by making Force users a less OOC EXCLUSIVE club, you'll probably actually have a better diversity layout in terms of character types, because there'll be less of a sense of exclusivity surrounding a concept, which makes people want the concept.

@three-eyed-crow said in Star Wars?:
Another major advantage of the Old Republic as a setting, to me, is that you don't have to contort yourself to allow players to play Force users, or limit them to a small segment of players.
Yes, exactly. It's removed enough from the big movie time periods that people don't feel constrained by the canon sequence of events, you don't have the problem of having big huge characters as FCs, you can freely have Force users on both sides... It just seems like the ideal time period to set a MU*. Pick one of the big, bustling planets that had both Jedi and Sith presence and base it there.

RE: Star Wars?
@auspice Right? I would super check out an Old Republic era Star Wars game. But I am thoroughly uninterested in SW games set during the actual trilogy time periods for the most part.

No. Its not. You don't have to defend your copyright or you lose it. And I still don't think any real lawyers are telling authors that they must say no.
I imagine there are plenty of lawyers who are like "you should say no just so we can all avoid the potential for a possible headache down the line."

RE: A Game of Thrones MUX Discussion
@zombiegenesis said in A Game of Thrones MUX Discussion:
- Custom houses. I think this would be one of the biggest draws to a game, getting a few people together and creating your own house. The RPG has fantastic rules for this. Would people actually use such a system?
People will make them if you let them, but honestly there are so many -- so many -- established houses in the GoT canon that I wonder at the necessity. But yes, if you set it out as a thing people can do, people will definitely do it. I'd suggest having a minimum number of people required to start it off and also consider rules about staff taking control and possibly rostering leadership PCs if suddenly the group of friends disappears.
- Setting. The game needs to be political, sure, but it could be Big Political or Little Political. By Big Political I mean setting it in some place like King's Landing and allowing all types of characters from all over Westeros and beyond. By Little Political I mean setting it in one specific location (Casterly Rock, say) and focus on the politics of that region. This would obviously have an impact on what custom houses were available.
Base it in one location no matter what size political you're doing. I'd say go for wherever you can make it reasonably IC to have a large variety of characters.
- Ready-made characters. Would having a +roster filled with characters that players could just do a small app for be worth investing time in? It seems to work on other places but I don't play on those places so I'm unsure.
Some people love rosters. Some people love making their own characters. I'd strongly suggest having at least some rosters, as it 1) helps new players dive in quickly, and 2) helps you to manage continuity of houses and the like as players come and go. As others have said, let people flag their OCs as being able to go on the roster or not if their player leaves. Have rules about OCs going on the roster if they're abandoned in leadership positions.
- Sticking to canon. This is something I don't really care much about. I figure we start the game and not worry about if what we do would prevent the game from eventually leading into the books or whatever. Do what we want and have fun telling our story, not worry about the story that GRR Martin will eventually tell. Would this be a deal breaker for fans of the theme?
Pick a point in the canon to start from, and then throw out anything and everything that comes after it. I strongly believe this is the only reasonable way to handle moving canon. I think it's a huge mistake when games try to adjust around new material. (Taking inspiration from new material can be great!)
