    • RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning

@kitteh No, I think that nobody has accumulated 1000+ xp for it yet. (And, for the record, staff has kind of clarified on channel recently that Rank 6 skills will have staff involvement, but more along the lines of staff developing plot stuff to allow for a Rank 6 skill buy if someone actually successfully saves for it.) It's true that I don't actually have knowledge of everyone's XP levels, but saving up the XP for it is going to require a lot of saving (and also not spending on other skills, or else their XP tax will inflate and it'll get continually more expensive).

The Rank 6 crafting abilities are totally different with an entirely different (and more reasonable) cost level. Rank 6 in crafting is what unlocks the highest tier of crafting recipes. They're priced at more regular XP prices, not the huge Rank 6 skill jump to 1000.

@Pyrephox I mean, I only personally know one person who's seriously pursuing it, and even that is still very much "save up for a year" type planning.

      @DeadEmpire I think you're referring to stat costs, and it's a base cost of 100, not 1000.

No, she's talking about Level 6 skills, which have a base cost of 1000xp.

I will say that watching people talk about XP on the family channels etc, it seems like the game is already totally off the rails dinosaur wise. People talk about spending 1k+ xp for a new stat, plus everyone also has all these bodyguards, animals, many of which I've heard discussed having stats that would easily eclipse starter PCs.

While I do hear people talk about spending the 1k+ (and sometimes 2k+) for a legendary stat/skill, I've yet to hear about anyone getting close to it at all. If anyone manages, it'll likely because they've been saving and not raising any other stats/skills.

@Pandora I'll message you a private response because I'm irked with a bit of your response.

Stats: It's very easy to gain a lot of XP per week, and there are significant gainers per week. Look at the reports that are posted. We're nearly at the 200xp a week realm.

That's -- not true at all. There was one week where there were cron issues and XP got duplicated into weird numbers that topped a hundred. The norm is the top weekly earners are in the 30s.

And really, a noble who's widowed or divorced from an opposite-sex partner could still be gay. Just -- you know, marriage politics.

Why do they need to be widowed or divorced? You could be married to an opposite-sex partner and be gay.

Right, yeah, that too. There's just way more single rosters than married ones, so I was thinking about that.

I generally approach all characters from a bisexual baseline and from that the individual player can decide. A character who currently has an opposite sex spouse (like Mia) may also like the same gender, and characters who were formerly married, ie widowed, divorced, etc, may also have desires toward the same gender, and vice versa. It's really no big deal.

With all of the many roster characters that have been written, I can only recall one that was written as explicitly gay (and @TNP already played him). Although there are several I can think of offhand that written as "their sexuality includes same-sex attraction in some format" without any limitations on opposite-sex attraction.

There's a way to use the system that doesn't tell the other player what you wrote. Just for the record. I use the switch on occasion.

@surreality Yeah. Although that project was never about, like. Marking problem players. Not for YOUR record, since you remember, but for everyone else's edification. The idea was to have players opt-in to listing whatever alts they wanted to. Basically like a database of MSB playlists in a way. But -- better.

@Bossi said in Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning:

@Noodle-McDoodle Thrax culture is very much about keeping Thralls and being better than everyone else, which makes people see them as the typical 'bad guys'. It even says in the description that people love to hate them.

It's not so much an excuse or a desire to play an asshole character. 😕 That seems like stereotyping. Every game needs conflict, we can't all be nice to each other. We don't play Thrax's because we want to be assholes and get away with it. Also saying we're on par with demons/those serving demons is a bit extreme, we're not looking to hurt people. Hardcore Thraxians just see themselves as the shit, and are stuck in their ways.

I feel like you should maybe reread what @Noodle-McDoodle wrote. Her point was more that we have a lot of outside external evils serving as the bad guys of the game (including some PCs aligned with those various evil factions), not that Thrax is at all on par with demons or their servants. The game doesn't require an overt "bad guy" Great House to create conflict because we have a ton of other antagonists already set up. She also didn't say that all Thrax players are looking for the Asshole Excuse, but rather that factions set up with overt stuff like Thrax that's meant to be "thematically bad" tends to attract players who get a bit too into the whole thing as an excuse to be a jerk. Is that everyone in Thrax? No, not at all! Have there definitely been players like that? Yeah.

I can understand both sides as far as wanting to keep/wanting to get rid of thralldom (and male primogeniture). But I do think the idea that Thrax will somehow lose all defining characteristics if these two things were to eventually become abolished is kind of short-sighted. Like, do you really think the entirety of Thraxian culture is wrapped up in those two things? I don't. Those are two big loud items, but even with the Lyceum down there, Thrax will always remain the foremost naval power, Thrax will continue to have an interesting and slightly brutal interpretation of Mangata, etc., etc.

Also, the idea that if Thrax didn't have thralldom and male primogeniture that we would lose game conflict is also incorrect, because there is tons of conflict not about these two things.

@Arkandel Yeah, that's very fair. And I don't doubt that a lot of instances like that are probably just careless. But if I really had reason to believe someone did it purposefully with full knowledge of the situation, I'd consider it actionable.

This isn't an issue of proof. You have to presume that it is true because the issue is: should staff take action if a player is telling truths to affect another player's RP.

But that's reframing the issue because my - primary - concern with it is the lying part; of course I want to know if a guy is Rex. I wanted to know Max was Custodius when I was told.

Circumstances do matters, but up to a point. For example if I'm stalking you, and you go to a new game hoping to keep a low profile but @Meg outs you to me then it's a nasty thing to do, but I wouldn't say it's an actionable one - unless she's staff, and she abused her position to do it.

Man, idk. If someone literally knows that Player A is stalking Player B and purposefully provides them information to help them do so? With full knowledge of what's going on? That'd be actionable for me, probably, depending on the circumstances. Because stalking is gross and shitty and people who help others stalk are also being gross and shitty and I wouldn't want that on my game.

Do people really decide who to rp with based on non game things?

Based on this thread, demonstrably yes. Everyone has different boundaries. Other people have boundaries that are different from yours.

Now as to the reputation I would not punish someone for spreading lies about non-game matters period regardless of the place they did so. I would punish someone for lying about game matters regardless of where they did so. For ex, Joe cheats on his RL wife. Not gonna care.

That's not an example of spreading lies about non-game matters, though. An example would be Bob spreading lies about Joe cheating on his wife to get people not to like Joe OOCly so that Bob can sabotage his RP on the game.

@Auspice Yeah, that's really fair. They've taken specific measures to try and control the speed of things, but it's still a dense game and there's no changing that, really.
