The loudest someone on Reddit ever yelled at me was when I offhand corrected his assumption that I was a guy by just letting him know I was a woman. Apparently this was the WORST THING EVER. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Mrm. I don't like that names seem to have disappeared from the unread page... I don't have everyone's avatars memorized and I don't want to.
Hover your mouse cursor over the avatar and, et voila - the name appears.
It actually doesn't work for me. Hovering over the avatar gives me nothing. Granted, it doesn't really matter to me since I'll either read the thread based on the title or not.
Yeah, I don't get any names on hover, either. Just as a general FYI. (I don't actually care so much -- like someone else said, I just click on topics that interest me.)

RE: MSB alias/username
Years ago when I got asked to join staff on X-Men Movieverse MOO, I took the staff bit name Rosalind. (It was a Shakespearean theme.) Which shortened to Roz, which has become my regular online alias.
For some reason, I sometimes have issues getting jokes in online chat. (Not in the 'ugh you have no sense of humor, learn how to take a joke,' although I'm sure some people who have tried to tell gross jokes in front of me might say that, but in the 'I don't get it???' kind of way and then everyone laughs at me.) It became such a running joke on XMM that my name became a verb for not getting a joke. "You rozzed the joke!" (Which is now the top result on Urban Dictionary.) Which is why I show up in some other spaces as rozzingit if Roz is already taken. Which I realized halfway through this is not actually the case here, where I'm just Roz, but I'm not deleting my story so there.

RE: How hard should staff enforce theme?
I think enforcing theme in instances like this; what you describe seem to be pretty major examples of ignoring theme and realism, not just kind of obnoxious skirting around stuff. It's pretty much guaranteed that a player who is doing stuff like that is, in addition to diluting the theme you've structured, totally annoying and frustrating other players. What you've described are also behaviors that seem like it'd be pretty reasonable to have IC consequences for, which is a way to deal with this. I think @Misadventure's simple solution -- discuss first, then have the setting react -- is a good one.
If someone is taking advantage of this and enjoying the crazy reactions, as @surreality warns, sit them down again and tell them to knock it off.

RE: Spying on players
One of the things I don't understand: there's been a lot of talk of people liking staff being Dark to watch things for the purposes of spontaneous plot. But why exactly do they have to be Dark to do this?

RE: SPOILERS - The Force Awakens
I guess we'll never truly know how much more money the now most successful film release of all time could have made.

What the hell is "Life is Strange?" Sounds like a bad erotic Italian film where the women don't shave their pits and non-simulated sex is used.
It's an adventure game where you play a teenage girl who can rewind time with a camera.
For the most part, I quite enjoyed it, but it includes a lot of cringe-worthy "teen speak."
She doesn't actually rewind time WITH the camera, she just takes it everywhere because she's a photographer. And she can use pictures to rewind farther back in time.
(I really liked the game. I wasn't bothered by the teen speak? Idk I didn't even notice it until other people started complaining.)

So, one of the many ideas that is 'in development' due to my ADD is a game that would be a continuation of the 'Young Justice' animated series. I'very got the storyline for a full year 'Season 3' frameworked out. Any interest?
DID SOMEBODY SAY YOUNG JUSTICE

Potato gets close to this but it doesn't spellcheck while I'm typing.
My understanding is that Potato can do this, but you have to set it up. Something something it doesn't do it out of the box because it's cross-platform and they don't handle dictionaries the same something something idk. There are instructions somewhere.

Now, in real life, the other kid would have most likely been a fat old pervert, I know. That's part of the reason why I couldn't take that episode seriously at all; the Internet usually does not work that way. There are exceptions to the rule, but I am much of your opinion where this is concerned.
Also, the kid's mom actually encourages him to meet his internet friend! Worst. Parent. Ever, as Comic Book Guy would say.
I question this, the internet is just plain normal now and has been for a decade or more, the last couple of relationships I have had were with people I met over the internet, hell my (divorced) mother who is in her late fifties dates people she meets via internet dating sites. Most people are on the internet and doing internet things and is it not the unique preserve of social outcasts.
I might be single right now but that was due to a drunken argument that went really wrong combined with withdrawal from anti depressants, following a year long relationship with a smart as hell microbiologist I had a ton in common with. Where did we meet? OkCupid, neither of us living in a basement or being above a healthy weight. Would we ever have met without the internet? Hell no, we did not live close enough though commuting was easy enough, did we keep in touch via internet stuff? Absolutely.
Have to agree here. Do people lie on the internet? Do people get preyed on? Absolutely. But I don't think that it's actually true that the majority of people you might make friends with on the internet are more likely to be vastly lying about their identity.

RE: SPOILERS - The Force Awakens
Loved it so much more a second time. I feel like I was able to shed all the preconceptions and anxiety and just enjoy the fun of it. And it's a lot of fun.
And holy hell I am shipping Finn and Poe. (The actors kind of are too.)

RE: Which MU* telnet clients are still popular?
@Lithium I'm actually pretty sure you can do both of those things, they're probably just mapped differently by default.

RE: Which MU* telnet clients are still popular?
One other thing I THINK I can recall Potato not doing is adding in blank lines between poses in logs. Potato users, can you confirm? I used Potato briefly but it was a year or two ago before my job switched my computer to a Mac.

RE: SPOILERS - The Force Awakens
I fucking hate the "Rey is a Mary Sue" bullshit I can't even.
Luke is a Mary Sue.
Anakin is a Mary Sue.
Star Wars is populated with super special heroic characters. The only reason we're having this conversation is because she's a woman.
Edit: in fact
