@sunny Absolutely call the cops if violence is in progress. Absolutely. I would never advise someone not to use law enforcement to protect themselves from violence. Just don't volunteer information not about the incident they're investigating, don't give them permission to search just because they ask, and be prepared to say "I'm invoking my right to remain silent" or "I want an attorney before this goes any further" at any time.

I'm a criminal defense attorney and I've called the police before when I felt endangered (or when someone else was). You just always gotta remember to safeguard yourself and your rights when you do.

Players who are invested in their dominions are naturally going to want to grow them. Even when I very first started on Arx as a baby brother of a marquis, we had a goal to grow. As it happens the story went a different direction, but I think it is an extremely normal thing for players to want to do. Ambition is an IC thing for a character, and being able to build something as a character and as a player is part of why some people rp.

The dominion systems that Arx is still building are going to accommodate some of this. But I agree with @wahoo that standing in the way of someone else's progress is not a great thing to need to do as a player.

@mietze OH MAN THIS ABSENCE OF PHO BROTH IS A TRAGEDY. Delivery screwups are SUCH a bummer, I have totally gotten teary over things like that on a rough day :C

Yesterday due to reasons I was working til 7 pm. I genuinely do not know how I would have done that pre medication. Stressful and tiring, sure, but like . . . Impossible, pre Adderall.

My eyes are blue. I have never found them at all exciting. This thread is telling me that I am weird in a way I did not know.

Women don't always necessarily notice it until it's pointed out. I used to say that I'd never been harassed really, but reading other women's accounts I realized that I'd actually just been minimizing shit that happened to me for years, like when I was 17 and working front desk at a budget hotel and started using my LOTR ring of power as a fake wedding ring so that truckers would stop leering at me, or when I was traveling for a job interview and had people shout random shit at me in the parking lot of a different hotel in the middle of the night, or when I was 19, stopped by the side of the road with engine trouble, and had random dudes drive by in their truck and yell dumb shit at me and a friend -- the male friend I was with at the time was more disturbed than I was because he was like what the fuck was that about and I was basically just like ???? ... or stuff you don't even notice like "Hey, smile! Why aren't you smiling?" or ... you know, I could go on. I've got some weirdass stories as a female public defender, let me tell you.

But the fact is, a lot of the time this stuff is so pervasive, low-level, background noise, that it's EASY not to notice. Even when it is happening to me. As a nerd I'm not always super aware of my surroundings even when they are relevant to me personally. I'm sure the same is true for many male nerds. I'm not passing a moral judgment on this. But just because you don't notice a thing doesn't mean it isn't there.

I usually try to leave them open to players to decide who they're going to sleep with. I did deliberately sheet several to be LGBTQA, but -- A lot of the time I just don't mention a gender of lovers at all (Silvio is the first example that comes to mind) or just don't mention lovers at all and let people decide what they're gonna do themselves (most common).

What I've never done is sheet someone to be straight. Individual players can play straight if they want, but I'm never going to proscriptively say "and she doesn't like girls".
